Add detail to your writing. Shows the relationship of a noun/pronoun to some other word in a sentence. Begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or a pronoun.

Example:

The birds sat under the trees and searched for food.

Object of the preposition

The noun or pronoun which ends this type of phrase.

The birds sat [under the trees] and searched [for food].

Object of preposition: trees, food

The words between the preposition and the object of the preposition are adjectives and adverbs.

One [of the girls] [in the new blue car] is my sister.

When the object of the preposition is compound

Example:

Barbara was walking [with Jon and me].

The word “and” is a conjunction, so both Jon and me are objects of the preposition.
