PCN-071019-AGA C-spec change This change won’t affect fit and/or function of devices. Brief description of this change To simplify our standard packaging c-spec ordering code designations for Commercial MLCC products in 0805 and 1206 case sizes:

C-spec 7867 will be replaced by c-spec 7800 to represent 7” T&R packaging Unmarked

C-spec 7411 will be replaced by c-spec 7210 to represent 13” T&R packaging Unmarked

C-spec 7013 will be replaced by c-spec 7025 to represent 7” T&R packaging Marked

C-spec 7040 will be replaced by c-spec 7215 to represent 13” T&R packaging Marked Key Note. Please Note that current packaging materials and processes will not be impacted and are not changing (Only packaging c-specs are changing). Implementation Date. Already implemented. Note: This PCN was released earlier but there were questions regarding the PCN and those were now clarified by Engineering with an updated document with clearer wording. Summary of Changes


PCN Introduction

• KEMET has recently identified the use of invalid packaging/reeling C-Specs in our order entry system (ETBF). Product has been processed and shipped using these invalid C-specs

• PCNs PCN-071019-AGA and PCN-071119-AGA are being issued to inform customers currently using or maintaining inventory of invalid C-Spec part numbers. They will also identify the proper and valid alternatives for future orders.

• No changes to existing catalogs, datasheets or Component Edge are being made as they have always correctly outlined the proper packaging C-Specs to be used for each part. This issue is only happening inside ETBF

• Existing inventory does not need to be returned to KEMET as orders have always been satisfied using the correct packaging processes and materials. This is simply a nomenclature error and not a product quality issue. All existing inventory utilizing invalid packaging/reeling C-Specs should be depleted.

• C-Specs on KEMET part numbers (15th-18th character positions) define packaging/reeling details (or testing requirements)

• To simplify ordering for distribution, KEMET allows orders to be submitted using the suffix “TU” or “TM” to denote 7” reel unmarked or marked.

• Per the previous slide, for case sizes ≥0805, if ordering 7” Reel/Unmarked, only C -Spec 7800 should be orderable.

• However, there was an error in KEMET’s ETBF system where it allowed orders to be placed using improper packaging C -Specs for both 0805 and 1206 case sizes.

• For example, ETBF allowed Part Numbers such as C0805C102K4RAC to be ordered as C0805C102K4RAC 7867 and C0805C102K4RAC7800. Note that the 7867 C-SPEC is not valid in the 0805 case size.

• Effects of error on customer:

─ This issue only occurred if orders were placed with the Packaging/Reeling C-Spec and not the packaging suffix (example TU)

─ The error in KEMET’s ETBF ordering system did not result in a Form/Fit/Function change of the capacitors or packaging.

─ To reiterate, existing inventory does not need to be returned to KEMET. Inventory that violates the proper usage of our packaging/reeling C-Specs should be depleted. This is simply a nomenclature error and not a product quality issue.

• From now on, all orders that are being placed with the incorrect C-Spec will be rejected.

• For any part numbers in distribution that have the incorrect C-Spec, KEMET is not recommending any action being taken on the inventory. Parts can be sold as is but inventory should be depleted

• There is inventory in the distribution channel that violates the proper usage of our packaging/reeling C -Specs. Our goal is to deplete this inventory. Note that alternative inventory is available through the channel that utilizes the proper packaging/reeling C-specs. This alternative inventory will continue to be replenished in the Disty channel.

• All current CY2019 orders in the system will be shipped even if using the incorrect C-spec. Customers can receive parts and use “as is” without concerns regarding quality or packaging issues.

• All future orders (CY2020) of invalid C-Specs will be rejected.

• All new orders must be placed using the correct packaging/reeling C-Specs
