Please turn in the Intent to participate form by April 1st to the counseling office.

The intent to participate form is for the files at Tippecanoe High school only.

To participate in CCP, one must complete the steps included in this presentation.

What is College Credit Plus?

College Credit Plus is a program in which students in grades 7-12 can earn college credit while still in high school

Students can take college classes:

● online, ● on our campus if offered or ● physically leave our building and attend class on the college campus

How can students participate?

● Must complete an assessment exam and be determined “eligible” for College Credit Plus

● May apply to any public college or participating private college● May apply to multiple institutions● May take classes during the summer, fall, and spring semesters

ProcessStep 1: Submit your Letter of Intent to the high school- DUE APRIL 1

Step 2: Apply online to the college program of your choice

Step 3: Take your Assessment exam: Writeplacer, ALEKS (math) or you can use remediation-free ACT scores (Results are immediate)

Step 4: Fill out any additional forms such as an authorization form or registration form

Step 5: Schedule a time to meet with an advisor at the college to map out potential classes

Process

Step 6: register for your online tutorial; this must be completed before you can take an online class

Step 7: communicate with your high school counselor about your potential classes

Step 8: Pay attention to deadlines

Placements TestsThe placements test will take approximately 2 hours

Must have an ID with you

The tests can be completed without a calculator

If you register for a class that is CCP here at THS- we will provide a time for you to take the test during the school day

Additional Forms & Planning

School counselor will have to sign and scan the authorization form or a registration form

Good opportunity to ask questions from your high school counselor

Ie. Is this an appropriate program for me? Ie. How does this change my course load?

Colleges are the expert on the expectations of a college course and your school counselor is the expert of a high school course

Pros of College Credit PlusCCP courses can also satisfy a high school graduation requirement

CCP courses can fall under the ohio transfer module and transfer to an associates/bachelors degree depending on your major

Take classes that are not offered at HS

THS district pays for tuition and books

One semester of 3-5 college credit course equals 1 high school carnegie credit

Affects your grade point average (A)

CCP on THS campus- curriculum is the same, meet every day and have access to our THS teachers

Cons of College Credit PlusCollege courses can conflict with the THS master schedule

If you fail, you must reimburse the school district for the failed class

Affects your grade point average (F) and is on your transcript

CCP class may not meet every day

Do not know the professor

FERPA Laws

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act states that a college cannot directly speak to a parent without a release from the the student

All information on the portal (their account) is private

Professors are not required to use the online portal to input grades

Counselors (and parents) do not have access to mid year grades- only final grades

Failing or Withdrawing from a ClassStudents earn letter grades for the CCP courses (e.g., A, B, C, D, and F).

For students who do not pass a CCP course or withdraws from the course after the college’s required date (usually after the 14th calendar day of the term), the grade will appear on both the college and high school transcripts (i.e., F or W).

The course grade of “F” will be computed into the high school and college grade point average (GPA).

The secondary school district has the option of seeking reimbursement for the amount of state funds paid to the college on behalf of the student for that class (unless the student is considered economically disadvantaged).

The school district may withhold grades and credits received for high school course taken until reimbursement has been made (ORC 3365.09).

EnrollmentStudents may be enrolled in up to 30 semester credit hours per year, including high school courses. Please see the calculation below:

30- (High school credits x 3) = Maximum CCP credit hours

The maximum number of credits allowable over the life of the program is 120. If a student enrolls in more than 30 credits hours then the student will have to pay for that course

Level I versus Level II courses

Have to complete 15 hours first before taking a Level II Course

Non-Allowable: one on one instruction, study abroad, physical education, Pass/Fail courses, religious course and remedial courses

Athletic Eligibility

You must remain eligible in accordance with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) bylaws. To be athletically eligible, students must be passing five, one credit courses or the equivalent per grading period with the high school and college courses combined.

Most College Credit Plus courses taken during a semester will equal one Carnegie unit, allowing students to earn more than the required five for athletic eligibility.

A summer CCP course can NOT be counted towards eligibility

Please check with your counselor and/or your Athletic Director to ensure that the course work you are taking is compliant the OHSAA.

WeightLOCAL SITUATION (IF...) OUTCOME (... THEN)

1. District HAS a Weighted Honors, AP, or IB course in a Subject

Area.

Example: The school offers English (or other courses) and the

grading scale for those English courses is weighted.

The district MUST weight a CCP course in that Subject Area

2. District DOES NOT HAVE a Weighted Honors, AP, or IB course

in a Subject Area

Example: The school offers Business courses (or other subject),

but the grading scale for those courses is not weighted.

The district CANNOT weight CCP courses in that Subject Area

3. District HAS NO Honors, AP, or IB course in a Subject Area

Example: The school does not offer any courses in Culinary Arts

(or other subjects); therefore, the district has no grading scale

assigned.

The district MAY weight CCP courses higher than non-advanced standing courses in that Subject Area (local policy decision)

End of Course ExamsCollege Credit Plus courses or approved AP/IB tests, in the subject area, will satisfy the EOC graduation requirement of American history, American government, and biology; and the college course grade earned under College Credit Plus or AP test score may earn graduation points in place of the end-of-course tests as provided here for American History, American Government and Biology.

However, all schools must administer the biology end-of-course tests to all students; students may use whichever is higher.

There are no CCP/AP/IB graduation points substitutions for mathematics or English language arts.

College Credit Plus ProbationStudents are placed on probation when they earn lower than a 2.0 GPA in college courses or withdraws from 2 or more courses in the same term

While on probation:

● May enroll in not more than one college course● May not enroll in the college course in which student previously earned a D or

F or received no credit● Student remains on probation until the student has improved cumulative

college GPA

What if...I do not score “college-ready” on the assessments

● You MUST meet with your counselor- you need a 3.0 GPA or a recommendation

I want to leave the high school early or come in later?

● THS cannot match the master schedule to ANY off-campus classes

I register for a class and want to drop it?

● You need to log on to your account and drop the class within 14 days or you will receive a “W”

What If….I am an athlete?

● You must be taking at least 5 classes in the fall. A summer class does not count towards eligibility

I fail a class?

● You will be required to pay for the course and can affect graduation

I cannot drive yet?

● You may want to take an online course or look at your options here at THS

What If...I am already committed to other programs outside of school?

● You need to decide if you have the discipline, time, and responsibility to take college classes

I want to take Advanced Placement classes as well?

● There are expectations and standards for each program and it is important to discuss with your counselor your options and if you should pick one program or can participate in both

Will my college credit transfer to my Bachelor’s degree?
