Related Misconceptions By closing my internet browser, all activity has been erased. All information listed on the internet is seen only by those that

are assigned as friends. All information that is on the internet; including personal

profiles, are factual and true. After erasing or changing my information online, past

information is no longer available. All people on the internet are safe and cannot harm anyone

because they are only on the computer.

How browsing on the internet is a permanent element of their digital footprint.

That information for personal profiles must be brief or not included, as people online is sometimes not factual and can compromise safety of an individual.

Use of the internet can allow personal information, such as banking or home addresses to be divulged to unknown parties.

Passwords should be changed often, and should also have uncharacteristic letters and numbers that would make it difficult for unknown persons to manipulate.

Watch lessons and videos that will demonstrate Internet Safety for understanding.

Discuss/ conference with teachers and parents proper procedures for Internet use at school and at home.

Undergo online quizzes and informal questioning to show understanding of elements of the unit on Internet Safety.

Demonstrate proficiency in navigating the Internet through trusted sites for research.

Write a reflective essay on lessons learned, and then undergo a classroom survey on the effectiveness of the unit.

Students will understand that the internet has infinite storage. Students will demonstrate ability to navigate the internet. Students will understand the term “digital footprint” as it relates to their activity on the Internet. Students will discuss and identify safety risks associated with the Internet. Students will utilize online resources that depict safety hazards while online. Students will utilize game simulations for understanding different safety hazards while online. Students will understand that browsing is stored on the computer and all sites are placed in the computer’s history. Students will understand that site information and profiles of users can be misleading or untrue. Students will understand the importance of protecting their profiles and personal information while developing sites. Students will understand how posted material will be available indefinitely. Students will understand the responsibility of being a digital citizen while online. Students will understand how caution must be used when communicating online with other users. Students will understand how communication with parents will help insure safety while online. Students will demonstrate ability to utilize websites and resources while performing the collaborative unit. Students will show understanding by taking online quizzes designed for unit’s comprehension.

Students will begin the collaborative unit by the introduction of a NearPod lesson on Internet Safety: Super Digital Citizen. Teacher will lead students through the lessons with activities designed to engage and interest the students. Students will create a comic with their Super Digital Hero. Students will undergo homework that is designed to reinforce the information for Lesson 1. Students will engage in discussion and written understanding through a lesson debrief. Students will navigate and explore the resource Bag The Web Digital Citizenship: Online Safety. Students will participate in online quizzes and demonstrate understanding through various forms of questioning within the sites. Students will work in small groups with flashcards for vocabulary that is indicative of digital citizenship. Students will utilize the application of Padlet for questions and teacher interaction concerning the independent exploration of sites. Students will undergo a NearPod lesson on Internet Safety: Talking Safely Online. Facilitate discussion with small group scenarios. Students will undergo homework that is designed to reinforce the information for Lesson 3. Evaluation/ Assessment will be given.
