• RTPs are the governing documents for all regionally significant transportation projects.• Multi-modal
• Roads: capacity, safety and preservation of the existing system
• Transit: truly comprehensive system by focusing on Bus Rapid Transit, streetcar and bus to complement rail system
2040 Regional Transportation Plan Adopted May 26, 2011
• Promote the Wasatch Choice for 2040 Vision• Encourage use of the Growth Principles• Educate local planners on Form Based Codes• Provide workshops and informational seminars• Continue working closely with UTA, UDOT, etc.• Encourage the use of best practices
Implementation of 2040 RTP
• Encourage contiguous growth• Promote infill before new growth• Plan for more TODs and urban centers• Provide jobs closer to residential areas• Promote alternative travel modes• Support efforts to preserve critical open space
Specific Development Strategies
• WFRC has formally adopted the Growth Principles and the Wasatch Choice for 2040 Vision
• Regional cities and counties have adopted the Growth Principles
• A number of educational forums on TOD’s, form based codes, and complete streets have been held
• Local zoning ordinances have changed to reflect the ideals of smart growth
