Find out which career path is right for you, gain relevant experience and earn competitive wages — all before you graduate?Co-op is more than just finding a job. It’s finding your career. It’s discovering what you want to do after graduation and showing you how to get there.

Co-op placements bring you paid, full-time work with top employers in your field of study. A great transition from university to the professional workplace, co-op also helps you network with experienced professionals and gain insight into your career before you graduate and in many cases get hired by your co-op employer.

Co-op combines real-world work experience with academic studies and has garnered international recognition as the preferred way to complete a degree.

Co-op students are expected to demonstrate acceptable classroom performance, evidence of broader focus (extracurricular activities and/or community service) and a record of responsible employment.

A meaningful co-op placement is one that complements your education and broadens your skills while providing you with access to employers whose primary objective is to deliver a planned, supervised work experience that will enhance your academic learning.

This career-related experience gives you a competitive edge, allowing you to graduate with more than just a degree.

As an international student, I was unsure of my future in Canada. Now, I am confident and enthusiastic about my life here thanks to the Co-op Program. Co-op has reinvented me by broadening my horizons, enriching my perspective, developing my professional skills, establishing a social network, and enlightened a wonderful path towards my career goal. I have gained

invaluable experience which can hardly be learned from courses. ~ Holly

Co-op enhanced my education by way of giving me the opportunity to take my classroom-learned knowledge and applying it to the working world. I strongly believe that having done co-op work terms says to an employer, “Not only do I know what I know, but I have proven that I can actually apply it.” ~ Shelby

Co-op is an experience that I would highly recommend to any student with a desire to obtain real world practical work experience. It is, in my opinion, the best way to bridge the gap between industry and post secondary; leaving you with the right pieces in place to move forward into a career. The amount that co-op has done for my network, my knowledge and wisdom of business &

industry, but most importantly my confidence, is simply remarkable. ~ Wyatt

By participating in the Co-op program at the University of Lethbridge, I have discovered a love of research that has led me to pursue my Masters in Biochemistry. The hands-on learning and access to world class leaders in the field of biochemistry, as well as research opportunities, provided me with an understanding of how things actually work and why. I’ve realized that a career in

research is something I would be more than happy to do for the rest of my life. ~ Harland

This summer I will be doing my first co-op with the federal government in Ottawa, working in the communications department at the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs. I cannot yet speak to what my day-to-day might look like, but I can speak to how excited I am to use my skills in communications to try and radically alter the public’s misperceptions of Indigenous peoples. For me, I hope this means I will not only be part of the state’s efforts to reconcile with Canada’s Indigenous peoples, but that I will also help foster a more inclusive and respectful discourse which anybody can be a part of. ~ Blair

Co-op is Now Available to Graduate StudentsParticipating in co-op as an undergraduate is essential; not only for developing practical skills related to your field of study, but to make professional connections and build a resume that is competitive for today’s economy (not to mention those Grad School applications). Co-op sets you apart. So why should it end with your Bachelors’ Degree?

At uLethbridge, co-op is now available to students pursuing a Masters Degree.
