Dear Parents,
As the academic year draws to an end we are delighted to be writing to you to introduce the Michaelmas Term booklet of Sixth Form Co-Curricular Enrichment Activities. It has been an absolute delight to see our array of events increase in diversity and popularity. As ever, a great deal of care and thought has gone into planning this term’s programme through close consultation with both the House Reps and Housestaff. With activities including team building at Barbury Shooting School (LVI only) and the Glow Run at Longleat, we hope that as you read through this booklet you will be equally excited about them.
Included also is the diverse array of lectures and Higher Education talks planned to enable your daughter to make the most of life in the Sixth Form and beyond. Please do therefore take this opportunity to look through this programme of events together.
Sign up for these events can be done either in House in the weeks leading up to the event or in advance online through your Parent Zone account on the Extranet. Please find step-by-step instructions for this on the back page of this booklet.
As ever, we have strived to keep the cost of the majority of activities down to a minimum but as you will notice, a few of the key events cost more than £25. Your daughter will be able to sign up for events costing £25 or less on a week-by-week basis in House. However, if you do not wish your daughter to have this option, then please confirm this in section 4, ‘Opt Out of House Sign-Up’ on the online booking form.
The list of events contained in this booklet may be added to throughout the course of the term. Some of these additional activities may incur a charge and we will, of course, advise you of the cost involved and if necessary, seek your agreement.
We are constantly working to widen the scope of our weekend activities and events. If you have any suggestions that you would like to see included in future weekend programmes. We would be delighted to hear from you.
With best wishes,
Co-Curricular Activities DepartmentDirect Line: 01635 [email protected]

Twice a term the HEGI team organises Oyster Society talks inviting professional speakers to visit Downe House and talk to a number of interested girls (UIV – UVI) about their particular profession, career path and personal experiences. These talks provide a valuable insight into the world of work and encourage girls to begin thinking about life beyond Downe House, as they move through the school.
During the Michaelmas Term 2017, we look forward to two talks, the first talk by Alistair Graham, a partner from Mayer Brown International LLP, who specialises in
commercial dispute, esolution and international arbitration practice, the talk is entitled “An Insight into the World of Law” and will take place on Monday 25 September. Our second talk, on Monday 27 November, is entitled “Exploring Careers in the British Army” where the guest speaker, Mr Edward Pawsey, the Senior Careers Advisor for Berkshire, along with his female officer colleague, will share their experiences of sponsored studying and working with the British Army in a variety of different roles.
