ART EXTENSIONYears 7–12These classes will have a focus on experimentation and extension where longer time periods than regular classes and smaller

numbers will enable a focus on exploring and refining diverse art skills.

The areas explored in this class will vary from term to term.

• In Term 1 the focus will be on photography where students will explore film based photography with manual analogue

cameras and darkroom processing of photographs. Students will also explore digital photography and Photoshop

manipulation.

• In Term 2 the focus will be on painting and drawing. In this area students will explore various drawing media such as

charcoal, pencil and pastel whilst also developing skills in the use of oil and watercolour painting.

• In Term 3 the focus will be on media production where script writing, storyboarding and film production and editing will

be explored and/or Ceramics (numbers dependent)

• In Term 4 the focus will be on printmaking where advanced lino-printing using reduction techniques and screen printing

will enable extensions into mixed media and wrapping and card production.

In all units, there will be an exposure to the art of artists working in each of the fields being explored to ensure that language

their own piano or keyboard. The hire fee for all instruments is $85 per term. Please discuss instrument purchase with the

appropriate Head of Department: many instruments can be re-sold for 50–60% of the purchase price when an upgrade is

necessary. Hire is charged per term and is subject to availability.

Ensemble Program

All music students are required to participate in an appropriate Lauriston ensemble. Students in Years 5-7 must be learning an

instrument in order to participate in an instrumental ensemble. Students in Years 10-12 who wish to participate in an ensemble,

but no longer have lessons, are required to have ensemble maintenance lessons during Term 2 & 3 in preparation for the Annual

School Concert.

Number of Lessons

Students receive 32 lessons per year which are billed as 8 lessons per term. Adjustments to accounts are made at the end of

based on student enrolments and as such may not be able

to make up lessons missed due to family holidays, illness or

forgetfulness. When two consecutive lessons are missed a

letter will be sent home informing parents/guardians of the

absence and reminding the student of the next lesson time.

Movement to and from Lessons

Prep – Year 4 students are collected from and returned to

their classroom by their instrumental teacher.

Students from Years 5 onwards are expected to make

their own way to their music lessons. It is the student’s

responsibility to remember their lesson. Timetables are

displayed on the noticeboards in the Music School.

Purchasing Instruments

The Music Department is happy to give advice regarding

the purchase of instruments and where the best prices are

available.

Second Instrument

If your daughter wishes to learn more than one instrument,

please consult with the Music School for advice. It is not

considered appropriate for students to learn more than one

instrument before Year 3.

Shared Lessons

Shared lessons are available only when two students of similar

standard and ability are enrolled. If one student discontinues

then the remaining student will be required to move to

individual lessons unless another student of an appropriate

age and standard enrols.

Timetabling

Music lessons are usually given during class time on a rotating

cycle. Lessons outside class time follow these priorities:

1. VCE/IB students.

2. If a student learns two instruments, every effort is made

to schedule one of these out of class time.

3. Lesson times at Blairholme are dependent on room

availability.

4. Parent requests for out of school times are then filled

when possible. Please note that our program is a day

program and staff are required to teach throughout the

school day.

Theory of Music

Theory lessons are recommended for instrumental/vocal

students after they have established themselves with their

learning, especially when studying AMEB grade 4 and

above. Theory of Music is excellent preparation for students

considering taking music in their senior years.

What to Bring

Students are required to attend all the regularly scheduled

lessons with their music, instrument, school diary and music

record book.

CODINGYears 3–6After-school Code Camp allows students to hone their coding skills and keep practising through weekly sessions over the term.

Students will produce multiple games and apps using our exciting online platform Code Camp World.

We have made Code Camp World as accessible as possible so students can truly focus on the fun aspects of coding and carry

on their journey at home.

Each week students will choose the features they want to build, and advance their problem-solving skills to build these

features using code.

They will take ownership over their projects and collaborate with their peers to make awesome apps!

What your child will walk away with:

• Their very own app playable via the Code Camp App store on iOS, Android or any web browser

• Access to a range of video tutorials so they can continue coding at home

• Experience with drag and drop coding

If you have any questions re the program please contact Code Camp directly via www.codecamp.com.au

• Lauriston Girls’ School students only
