1. Remove preassembled cluster from box. Instruction sheet andtransformer mounting hardware are included.

2. Measure pole at desired height with tape provided. Cluster easilyadjusts to wide range of pole sizes.

3. For one-man installation, hang cluster on lag screw. (Lag screwlocates cluster & DOES NOT BEAR LOAD).

4. Tighten double arming bolts as tight as possible. Cluster nowready to receive transformers.

ALUMA-FORM® a leader in thedevelopment and manufacture ofaluminum alloy cluster mountingbrackets, and with many years ofresearch and experience, publishes ourloading recommendations in an effortto assist users toward prudent productselection. Normally our small cluster mounts(3–50kVA) are mechanically evaluatedwith per phase load applied at a 14”moment from their mounting padsurface. Our larger cluster mounts (50-500kVA) are mechanically evaluatedwith per phase load applied at least atan 18” moment from their mountingpad surface. In actual practice, the center of gravityof electrical equipment frequentlyexceeds 14” or 18” from their mountinglugs. This increased distance is amoment arm and effectively“multiplies” the load carried by thecluster mount. Since the main factors actinginternally are combined bending,compression, tension and shear, asimple formula of ratio of moment armlengths is not sufficient for determiningrecommended loading. ALUMA-FORM®, therefore, providesthe following Recommended MaximumLoad per Phase data based uponempirical evaluations and engineeringanalyses for our various popularmodels of cluster mounting brackets.These loads are conservative andtypically include a least a 2:1 safetyfactor. The customer is cautioned,however, that the accompanying datais published only for generalinformation in assisting in clustermount selection. The customer isadvised to check pole loading, both incolumn strength and in butt bearingload. This data is subject to changewithout notice.

Unique slotfeature captures 2/4” mounting bolt head, allows one handtightening of bolt, and provides completely jump proof feature.Two 5/8” x 2” (ANSI C135.1) hot-dipped galvanized machinebolts with nut and lockwasher are included with each plate.Balance of mounting bolts required are included with clustermount.

Although there are no industry standardsfor cluster mounts, Aluma-Form®, as aleader in the development andmanufacture of clusters, and with manyyears of research and experience havingbeen logged, feels it necessary topublish our recommendations in aneffort to assist users toward prudentproduct selection. Normally cluster mounts are loadtested with loads applied eighteen (18)inches from the transformer mountingsurface of the cluster. In actual practice, the center of gravityof large transformers may be more thaneighteen (18) inches from the face ofthe cluster. Some designs are found tohave the load center as much as twenty-six (26) inches from the cluster face.This increased distance acts as amoment arm and “multiplies” the loadcarried by the cluster mount. Since the main factors acting internallyare combined bending, compression,tension, and shear, a simple formulabased on moment arms is not totallysatisfactory for determiningrecommended loadings.

Wing Type

Aluma-Form®, therefore, feels that thedistance of the center of gravity fromthe cluster should be taken into accountalong with the weight of the transformerwhen applying very heavy loads. Thelist below contains Aluma-Form’srecommended loading date for variouscluster mounts. The customer iscautioned however that theaccompanying data is published onlyfor general information in assisting incluster mount selection. The customeris advised to check pole loading, bothin column strength and butt bearingload.
