The two main trekking seasons and theoptimum times to climb Kilimanjaro arefrom the end of December to March andJune to October. It should be about 25-30°C at the foot of the mountain and thetemperature will decrease byapproximately 1°C every 200m we climb.Mountainous weather is alwaysunpredictable, so ensure that you are fullyprepared for all eventualities.

This fully-inclusive adventure climbing Mount Kilimanjaro will begin as soon as youregister! You will receive a challenge pack including a training guide, kit list anddiscounts for all the essentials you may need. Teenage Cancer Trust will also get intouch with you about fundraising for your trip. We offer pre-challenge briefings andtraining weekends in the UK, where you can meet our trek leaders, members of yourgroup and others taking part in challenges around the world.

On the day of departure you meet your group and Action Challenge leader at the airportin London. Whether you’re joining the challenge on your own or with others, you willinstantly be made to feel welcome. As a team we will board our flight to Kilimanjaroairport, ready to take on the trekking adventure of a lifetime!

Climbing Kilimanjaro is a toughchallenge, but one that is very achievablewith the correct training. You will betrekking up hill for an average of 5-7hours a day, increasing to 12-14 hourson summit day.

Breakfasts each morning will be in camp.Lunches will be en-route and eveningmeals will be freshly prepared in camp intime for your arrival. All meals will beprovided,except in free time.

All meals are full of carbohydrates, proteinand nutrients to keep us well fuelled forour hikes.the climb.We can cater for all dietary requirementsif informed in advance.

DAY 1 - Departure from the UK

DAY 2 - Moshi

On arrival we are transferred to our hotel near the town of Moshi, where there is awelcome meal and a briefing on the challenge ahead.

DAY 3 - Machame Camp

After a good breakfast we make the ½ hour road transfer to the Machame Gate andstart trekking through the lush vegetation of the rainforest. In the afternoon we reach thecamp, enjoy dinner and settle down to our first night under canvas.

DAY 4 - Shira Camp

Our route takes us through ever changing scenery as there is a steep ascent up throughheather and moorland to the Shira Plateau. We continue across the plateau to our campfor the evening to relax and enjoy the fabulous views.

DAY 5 - Barranco Camp

Trekking east across beautiful barren moonlike landscape, reaching the Lava Tower,with a stop for lunch, then descend through the surrounding ravines to our camp bylate afternoon. The descent aids the acclimatisation process and allows our bodies toadjust to the ever changing altitude.

DAY 6 - Barafu Camp

Leaving camp early for a short climb and scramble over the volcanic rock to the Bar-ranco Wall. From here we have fantastic views over to Barafu. For the rest of the daywe make the steady climb to our camp positioned on a ridge overlooking the southeast valley.

A kit list will be sent to you on receipt ofregistration. Many everyday items can beused on this challenge, and we offer a kithire service to keep costs down.

DAY 7 - Summit day

Awaking just before midnight, we climb for about 6 hours, with the steepest and mostdemanding part of the route by torchlight, to reach Stella Point at the crater rim. Then,our final traverse to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the African Continent, at 5895m.The morning sunlight gives us spectacular views across the plains below and of MountMeru in the distance. After a tough descent to Barafu camp, we stop for a well-earnedbreakfast, before continuing on to Millennium Camp.

DAY 8 - Moshi

After breakfast we continue the descent back through the rainforest to the Mweka Gate.A short transfer by bus takes us to Moshi, where we have the afternoon free beforecelebrating our fantastic achievement with a celebratory dinner.

We run a number of training weekendsthroughout the year in the Peak District,Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia. Theseare fully-inclusive - 2 night’saccommodation and all meals. We alsoorganise training days in London and theNorth and South downs. On both, you willget the chance to meet our mountainleaders and test out your kit and fitness!

You will also receive an invite to achallenge briefing in central London.

DAY 9 - A free morning in Moshi

Today you have some free time to explore the local area before boardingour flight back to the UK.

DAY 10 - Arrive home in the UK
