III. Winter Curriculum and Assessments - Overview

• We have 3 sessions throughout the year and in each session we have a different curriculum and different objectives.– Fall = Civics and Community– Winter = Family, Health, and Safety– Spring = Finance, Workplace, and Lifelong

Learning

Page 15: Classroom Programs Abbreviated Training

4/28/10 Training 15

Spring Curriculum – Part 1

• Although the objectives will differ depending on level, the topics in each level will relate to the theme for that session.

• The Spring curriculum is or will be available in draft form soon.

• The curriculum will be given to you by the program staff before you begin teaching. This is a basic overview. Depending on the level of your students, some topics will be explored more than others.

Page 16: Classroom Programs Abbreviated Training

4/28/10 Training 16

Spring Curriculum – Part 2

• Use the curriculum as a guide, rather than as a “syllabus”. Teachers can vary the order of the content and use resources outside of All Star.

• Teachers are not expected to cover the entire curriculum in one session. Do your best to fit in as many of the topics as you can without overwhelming your students (or yourself).

• Cover what is most relevant to your students.

Page 17: Classroom Programs Abbreviated Training

4/28/10 Training 17

Assessments – Part 1

• You will also be given student assessments. The learning goals will correspond with the curricula.

• Check off the goals achieved for each student to track their progress. These are very important to the students’ and program’s success in grasping the curricula outcome objectives.

• You are welcome to teach other related goals, please write them in the “Personal Achievements” section so your students get credit!

Page 18: Classroom Programs Abbreviated Training

4/28/10 Training 18

Assessments – Part 2

• Again, do not feel the need to meet every goal on the assessment sheet.

• It is recommended to update the assessment sheet after each class. Resist the temptation to wait until the end. Completing assessments as you go will take much less time and will be more accurate.
