Amiad For Sand Filter Replacement http://www.jbii.com/WaterFiltration/amiad.html

Overview

Traditionally, sand filters have

been used as an additional

treatment in the final effluent,

but inherently bulky, requiring

a lot of space and large amounts of water for backwashing.

Background

Sand Filter is a very common method of suspended solids removals, which can be installed as a

guard filter such as in buildings, hotels, etc., as fine filtration after the clarifier, particle filtration

in cooling towers and many other applications.

Why should I use an Amiad ?

• Limited space available

Page 22: Cipta Cmc Wtp

22

For flow rates up to 400 m³/h; 1,760 USgpm

Filtration degrees from 500 to 10 micron

Filter area 1500 - 6000cm²; 233 - 930 in²

The SAF series are automatic filters, with a self-cleaning

mechanism driven by an electric motor. The SAF filters are

designed To work with various types of screens in filtration

degrees from 500 To 10 micron.

Self-cleaning process:

The SAF filter will start the self-cleaning process when the pressure differential across the screen

reaches a pre-set value or a predetermined lapse of time.

Cleaning of the filter element is carried out by the suction scanner, which rotates in a spiral movement

while removing the filtration cake from the screen, and expels it out through the exhaust valve. The

rotation of the scanner is operated by a 2-way (fwd/rev) drive unit that is attached

To the scanner by a threaded shaft, providing the linear movement.

The exhaust valve is activated For the duration of the cleaning cycle by a 3-way solenoid. During the self-

cleaning process, which takes approximately 35 seconds, filtered water continues To flow downstream.

Filtration of water is a method of combating microorganisms. This procedure treats only

bacteria which passes the filter. This method should be regarded as a gatekeeper.

Ultrafiltration is used for filtration of incoming water from the water works. Ultrafilters or

membrane filters are effective against bacteria, viruses, suspended particles and other unwanted

elements from the water.

The pressure loss in the ultrafilter is very high. In many cases it is necessary to install a water

boosting system in order to maintain the correct water pressure at the consumers tap.

Advantages:

• Effective against free bacteria floating in the water

• Does not affect smell and taste of the water

• Not sensitive to pH-value of the water

• No chemicals are used

Disadvantages:

• There is no long term effect on bacteria etc.

• Biofilm in hot water tank and pipes are not affected

• In case of malfunction, a large microbiological population can grow in the membranes.

• Medium life cycle cost

Grundfos Service ensures correct pump installation and commissioning for optimum pump

performance by trained technicians and our network of professional partners

Correct installation is essential for optimum pump performance. If the installation process is not

carried out correctly, pump performance can be cut in half. You will most likely not even notice

that anything is amiss, but it could mean that pumps wear out prematurely or money simply slips

through your fingers as wasted energy.

Page 25: Cipta Cmc Wtp

25

Grundfos Service ensures that this will not happen. Our careful consideration of the Life-Cycle

Cost of all our products means that we have control over the real costs of ownership of our

pumps – including purchase price, installation, operation, replacement, and even scrap value.

Trained technicians and our network of professional partners know what they are doing, which

allows them to get everything right. Grundfos offers a Commissioning Agreement that specifies

each single service task to be performed and the products covered, thus showing our

commitment to a correct installation process.

Grundfos also adds extended warranty to our products, ensuring financial security for you via an

impeccable installation process. As with all aspects of Grundfos service, it’s all done in a

minimum of time.

Overview

Even with a good water source, water treatment should be considered to ensure a good water

quality. Water treatment describes those processes used to make water more acceptable for a

desired end-use and to ensure that stringent quality standards to the consumer are maintained.

Grundfos can supply pumping solutions for solids separation using mechanical treatments such

as settling and filtration, dosing solutions for chemical treatments such as disinfection and

coagulation.

For example, dissolved substances that are removed during drinking water treatment include

calcium and magnesium from hard water, sulphur and carbon dioxide from acid water, iron from

red water, manganese from brownish-black water, nitrate from fertiliser-contaminated water,

hydrogen sulphide gas from rotten-egg smelling water, and sediments and organic matter from

turbid water, where minerals may also be dissolved in high concentrations. Other desired end-

uses for water could be for industrial processes or medical use.

Grundfos pump systems range from submersibles to end-suction pumps and huge split-case

pumps as well as our highly successful vertical multistage centrifugal pump (CR). Our complete

range of dosing pump systems are for large or small volumes and based on different

technologies; electronic and electrochemical accessories offer complete control; and PLC-

controlled, fully automatic systems for dry material preparation and reliable dosing.

The sustainability of water treatment solutions requires that the pumping solution is durable,

ensuring cost effective and trouble-free operation. Grundfos has decades of experience

developing controller and monitoring systems for pumping solutions and manufactures its own

pump motors for all fluid types and flow requirements.

External frequency converters (CUE) for variable speed drives and motor protection (MP204) to

monitor motor conditions ensure optimal adaptation to changing conditions. This ensures a

perfect match with hydraulics, motors, electrics, and all other mechanical components that make

up a comprehensive pumping solution, ensuring the best possible efficiency point.

Sedimentation GRUNDFOS

Overview

Sedimentation is a physical water treatment process used to settle out suspended solids in water

under the influence of gravity. One of the requirements for correct sedimentation is maintaining

gentle fluid handling with a pump system that is designed to avoid contact between the sediment

and vital pump parts, reducing wear and tear.

Grundfos can supply pump systems that match these demands, and in addition has a range of

disinfection solutions that lead to an increase in the settling speed of suspended material and help

raise water quality.

Maintaining gentle and controlled flows in sedimentation tanks and moving water to and from

the tanks places many demands on a pumping solution. Grundfos pump systems range from huge

split-case and mixed-flow pumps, where the focus is on moving water rather than added pressure

to our highly successful vertical multistage centrifugal pump (CR) – and covering all

performance requirements in between.

Grundfos can supply complete dosing pump systems for large or small volumes and based on

different technologies for flocculation, disinfection, and pH adjustment. Moreover, the Grundfos

range of electronic and electrochemical accessories offers complete control of your dosing and

disinfection processes and can be seamlessly integrated into your system.

Water quality improvement with an efficient, economical system for dry-material preparation is

increasingly used for water treatment. Grundfos can supply PLC-controlled, fully automatic

systems to handle preparation and the reliable dosing of organic coagulants or poly-electrolytes.

Grundfos can supply the specialist expertise to help meet your performance objectives, from the

initial identification of needs, to the selection, installation, operation, and maintenance of the

pumping solution. Grundfos commissioning agreements ensure correct installation and service

agreements cover all eventualities, from routine maintenance to spare parts and pump audits.

GAE Blue River Sedimentation

Blue River Sedimentation is a compact water treatment plant based on sedimentation

process. The plant is a package treatment with a complete process contained within

small footprint.

Process: Raw water will be treated through several stages of process. Coagulation

process takes place in the specially design quick mixer and pH adjustment follows

instantly. Microflocs from coagulation are released through jet flocculator prior to

floculation process and form macroflocs. The macroflocs are then settled in

sedimentation tube settler chamber. Desinfectant chemical is dosed before the

flocculation. The released clear water is delivered to high effeciency pressure filter

(compact design criteria) and the remaining suspended solid is completely filtered, as

shown in proccess flow diagram.

Features: modular system and compact, good adaptability, quick and easy

installation, simple operation and maintenance, and easy to transport.

GAE Blue River Flotation Blue River Flotation is our latest innovation as an effective alternative to sedimentation process.

Still maintaining the compact and ease to operate feature, the flotation model (F) uses the

dissolved air flotation (DAF) method. It is an efficient and energy saving process. Coast of

chemical and the related inventory are reduced to a minimum. Thus putting the operational cost

at a minimum.

DAF has long been established as an efficient separation process. The DAF process can be

considered as a combination of several phisical and chemical unit processes. This process can

be divided into two sub-processes: a pretreatment process and flotation process. The principal of

this water treatment system consist of causing turbidity substances in water to become small and

strong flocs, making them float to the surface by attaching fine bubble to them and separating

them from water by skimmer mechanism, as shown in process flow diagram.

In DAF, the water is saturated with air under pressure, passes to a flotation chamber where

pressure is reduced to the atmospheric one. The air is now super saturated and precipitated

out of solution in the form of bubbles. Clouds of bubbles having 10-100 um in diameter are

produced just down-stream of the constriction. These bubbles adhere to the suspended solids

in the low-pressure influent water stream causing the suspended particles to folat to the

surface, where they are skimmed of. DAF also can be used as recycling System from Sewage

Treatment Plant for Flushing Toilet and Cooling Tower Purpose.

Features: modular system and compact, quick and easy installation, simple operation and

maintenance, low chemical cost, unique saturation system, and good adaptability.

GAE Reverse Osmosis

Reverse Osmosis, sometimes called hyper filtration, is perhaps the most technically complex class of membranes,

affection separation at the micromolecular and ionic size range. Pore size ranging from 5 to 15 angstroms effect

separation of the solutes down to 150 molecular weight and often lower.

Some applications using RO system:

Page 36: Cipta Cmc Wtp

36

GAE Ultra Filtration

The Ultra Filtration (UF) process is the membrane filtration process that was developed

specifically for large scale water treatment schemes. Ultra filtration membrane has become a

widely adopted technology for treating ground water and surface water. WWTP effluent and

seawater for the production of a multitude of water grades for the industry and municipalities

alike.

The common denominators within this water sources are the fact that suspended solids and

turbiditya are mostly relative low, i.e., typically below 50 mg/l, possibly with some occasional

excursions. For these types of applications, UF membrane is the optimal treatment whenever

removal of solids, bacteria or even color is required. Ultra Filtration (UF) membran process can

be defined as between Nano Filtration (NF) and Micro Filtration (MF).

GAE Demineralizer Plant

Demineralization of a commercial scale became possible after resin manufacturers developed methods of

mass producing a new form of ion exchange resin. When regenerated with caustic (NaOH), this resin

removed silica and carbon dioxide from the effluent of a zeolite resin operated in the hydrogen cycle. A

standard cation resin of the type commonly found in zeolite softeners which is regenerated with sulfuric

acid as opposed to salt (hence: hydrogen cycle cation), is called a strong acid cation resin. An anion resin

with a strong affinity for silica and carbon dioxide is described as a strong base anion resin. An offshoot

of the strong base anion resin development was the production of a chemically different resin with a

strong affinity for strong acid anions sulfate (SO4), Chloride (Cl), Nitrate (NO3), Phospate (PO4), etc,

this was called a weak base resin. The weak base resin does not remove silica or carbon dioxide, as does

the strong base resin. Therefore, it cannot be used alone to produce the water purity demanded by high-

pressure seam plant operations. Less caustic is required to regenerate the weak base resin and it is often

coupled with a strong base resin in the same vessel to produce the most economical anion unit operation.

The weak base resin is always loaded into the vessel last when the unit is redied for down flow service.

Putting the weak base resin on top of the anion resin bad uses its higher capacity for strong acid removal

to insure that the strong base resin can concentrate on removing the weak caids associated with the carbon

dioxide and silica (carbon and silicic acids).

The cation and anion vessels of a demineralizer train are piped in series so that the effluent of the cation

unit enters the top of the anion unit and the discharge from the anion unit goes to the treated water header

or into a polishing unit.
