The Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Wolverhampton is offering this two-year part-time programme leading to BSc (Hons) Construction Management in Hong Kong in collaboration with the School of Continuing and Professional Education, City University of Hong Kong.

The programme has been offered in HK since 2000. All modules will be taught by University of Wolverhampton teaching staff from the UK, and supported by a local academic team. It provides cross-cultural learning environment that is unique in this programme.

Programme AimsThe aim of this specialist course is to prepare graduates for their initial and continued employment in the discipline of Construction Management within the Built Environment.Graduates will be able to understand and execute the role, responsibilities and professional ethics of the construction manager with knowledge and enterprise. This is achieved in their own right and within the context of the maintenance of professional practice as global citizens. Graduate development will encompass the aims and objectives of the professional accrediting body Code of Conduct, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). The course enables student to top up their existing construction related qualifications and to plan, develop and apply the many and varied skills of the construction manager including the development of digital literacy.

Programme StructureThe programme comprises of 8 modules (160 credits) and a dissertation (20 credits). The tentative study schedule is as follows:

Programme DeliveryThe programme is delivered in part-time mode for 5 semesters in 2 years. Each module normally spread over 15-week in the pattern as follows:

Week 1 – 3Intensive Lectures

Sat (4 hours), Sun (6 hours) and 3 weekdays evenings (3 hours each)

Week 4 – 11Tutorials

8 weekly tutorials (3 hours each)

Week 12 – 14Revisions

Intensive sessions in 1 week(3 hours each)

Teaching and LearningTeachingLectures will be delivered by experienced academic staff from University of Wolverhampton. Local tutors will provide guidance through tutorial sessions in week 4-11. The 9-hour intensive sessions will be held by staff from University of Wolverhampton to provide additional support to students.VenueClasses will mainly take place in SCOPE Tsim Sha Tsui East Learning Centre and some may be scheduled in SCOPE Learning Centre at Kowloon Tong.

Student SupportStudents will have access to the CityU Library, CityU Computing Services Centres and the learning resources of University of Wolverhampton, such as journals, e-books and the online learning platform (WOLF).

Assessment All taught modules are assessed by coursework and/or written examination.

Professional RecognitionChartered Institute of Building (CIOB)Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM)The programme has been accredited by Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM) and has satisfied the academic requirements for memberships. Graduates with 3 years’ professional experiences and pass the Professional Review are eligible to become Member of CIOB (MCIOB). For graduates who reached the age of 25 and have had 4 years of work experience in construction field in HK, they would also be eligible to become Member of HKICM (MHKICM). Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE)Graduates may also apply for Corporate Membership in Building Discipline of HKIE upon completion of a top-up course recognized by HKIE. All applications to HKIE will be handled on an individual basis so graduates should check with HKIE directly for their eligibility before applying the top-up course. Applicants who completed the top-up course with a minimum of 6 years’ relevant post-qualification experience and pass the professional interview are eligible to become Members of the HKIE Building Discipline.

Entry Requirements of Admission

Subject to admission decision, those who have not studied Construction Law will be required to take additional tutorial classes in Semester A.

FeesApplication fee : HK$140 (to be paid upon application)Tuition fee : HK$105,000 for the full programme, to be

paid in four equal instalments. 1st instalment due upon enrolment; 2nd instalment due in December 2014; 3rd instalment due in August 2015; 4th instalment due in December 2015Graduation fee : HK$400 (to be paid upon admission)In the case of re-assessment, additional fees will be charged. All fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Financial Assistance Education LoanSuccessful applicants are eligible to apply for the Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS) administered by the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) of the HKSAR government. The maximum financial assistance under the ENLS is equivalent to the total tuition fees payable for the programme. Further Study OpportunitiesEvery year, we have graduates admitted to higher and professional programmes offered by local & non-local institutions, such as MSc Construction Management, MSc in Intelligent Building Technology and Management.

Admission RequirementsApplicants should be:(i) Holders of Associate Degree (AD) / Higher Diploma (HD)

in Building-related disciplines or equivalent qualifications; OR

(ii) Sub-degree holders in other disciplines with scientific, technological or quantitatively-oriented subjects or equivalent qualifications and relevant industrial experience; OR

(iii) Mature candidates with post-secondary qualifications and substantial industrial experience in a leadership position may be considered on individual basis.

Applicants under category (ii) and (iii) may be required to take a conversion course offered by CityU-SCOPE prior to the programme commencement. An additional fee of HK$7,000 will be charged for the conversion course.Applicants may be invited to attend an interview as part of the selection process.Applicants are required to demonstrate an English proficiency at IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Alternatively, applicants may take University’s Wolverhampton English Proficiency Examination (WEPE) or an English preparatory programme offered by CityU-SCOPE at an additional fee of HK$3,500 in summer.
