United International College visit ndash 28 April 2011

Dr Li Wing Sun Divisional Vice President and staff visited United International College UIC at

Zuhai A seminar on lsquoManagement accounting and accounting for modern management in Chinarsquo

conducted by Dr Li to UIC students This seminar explored the development of the science of

Management Accounting and provided with insights for growing importance of management

accounting in China Dr Li also gave a personal sharing as a CFO in China and highlighted the role

of management accounting in his career

HK accountants trip to Huangshan ndash 7-9 May 2011

In early May the liaison office of the Central Peoplersquos Government in HKSAR organised a trip to one of

the most scenic places in China Huangshan There were 16 accounting related organisations who took

part with our Dr WS Li Divisional Vice-President and Damian Yip Divisional Director representing CIMA

The location was selected as it provided a strong Chinese heritage but also a leisure surrounding

to discuss some current issues including the Hong Kong economy the political climate the next

elections for the chief executive and the of grooming the next generation of accountants Each

organisation had a chance to express their views towards these topics and also listen to some

feedback from the liaison office

For those who have never been to Huangshan it is a mountain range in southern Anhui province in

eastern China It is especially well known for its scenery sunsets granite peaks and Huangshan Pine

trees It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Chinas major tourist destinations The

Huangshan mountain range comprises many peaks some more than 1000 meters The tallest and

best-known peak is Lotus Peak (Lian Hua Feng 1864 m) which we gave a miss but we did venture

on a 5 hour hike upto Bright Summit Peak (Guang Ming Ding 1840 m)

Joining the trip was Philip Tsai President of HKICPA as the trip leader and the Hon Paul MP Chan Legislative Councillor (Accountancy) as the

trip consultant

Joint seminar on lsquoValuation for MampA transactions and its impact on financial reportingrsquo ndash 14 May 2011

On 14 May 2011 we jointly organised a seminar on the valuation for MampA transaction with AIA

The seminar addressed issues regarding valuation for MampA transactions including the regulatory

framework in Hong Kong and highlighted its impact on financial reporting It also provided an

introduction to business valuation its fundamentals and methodologies This wonderful event

received a full-house with over 90 participants

President opens new CIMA office in Hong Kong ndash 23 May 2011

According to Feng Shui (an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to use the laws of both Heaven and Earth to help one improve life by receiving positive) at 100pm on the 23 May 2011 was suppose to be a very good date and time to start business Coincidently the new Hong Kong office was officially open by the George Glass President on his recent trip to the territory The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by a traditional roast pig-cutting ceremony signifying the lsquoopening of a prosperous pathway for blooming businessrsquo Attending the event were our honourable officers and also some fellow members of our institute

The office now meets our futures needs as if occupies a larger premise in Causeway Bay one of the busiest places in Hong Kong The new Times Square office is easily accessible to people living across the territory especially with the cross harbour bus stops and MTR just at our footstep The new premises provides adequate space for small classes for students and seminars for members in additional to a better layout for staff to work in

CIMA Hong Kong annual dinner ndash 24 May 2011

This yearrsquos annual dinner has attracted over 100 guests and we were so pleased to have Mr George Glass CIMA President flying all the way from UK to attend the fantastic event On the other hand it was a great pleasure to have Mr Paul Chan Mo-po MH JP Legislative Councillor of HKSAR being our honourable guest and distinguished member for the night The presence of Mr Chai Division Chief of the Central Government Liaison Office corporate partners HSBC and Jardine Matheson and the other representatives from the educational institutions and professional bodies also added more colours to the event

Highlights of the event included invaluable sharing from George and Paul prize presentations to newly qualified FCMA ACMA finalists and students with best exam results and several interesting and exciting games and lucky draws Congratulations to all the award and prize winners and we hope to see you all again next year

Global Business Challenge competitionThe CIMA Global Business Challenge competition started in February 2011 and it attracted more than 140 teams from all universities in Hong Kong Five finalists will present at the Hong Kong final to be held on 11 June 2011 at Hong Kong Polytechnic University SPEED The winning team of the Hong Kong final then join the Global Final in Chengdu and compete against winning teams from 16 other regions As the competition currently stands thank you to all assessors and congratulations to the five Hong Kong finalist teams

United International College visit ndash 28 April 2011

Dr Li Wing Sun Divisional Vice President and staff visited United International College UIC at

Zuhai A seminar on lsquoManagement accounting and accounting for modern management in Chinarsquo

conducted by Dr Li to UIC students This seminar explored the development of the science of

Management Accounting and provided with insights for growing importance of management

accounting in China Dr Li also gave a personal sharing as a CFO in China and highlighted the role

of management accounting in his career

HK accountants trip to Huangshan ndash 7-9 May 2011

In early May the liaison office of the Central Peoplersquos Government in HKSAR organised a trip to one of

the most scenic places in China Huangshan There were 16 accounting related organisations who took

part with our Dr WS Li Divisional Vice-President and Damian Yip Divisional Director representing CIMA

The location was selected as it provided a strong Chinese heritage but also a leisure surrounding

to discuss some current issues including the Hong Kong economy the political climate the next

elections for the chief executive and the of grooming the next generation of accountants Each

organisation had a chance to express their views towards these topics and also listen to some

feedback from the liaison office

For those who have never been to Huangshan it is a mountain range in southern Anhui province in

eastern China It is especially well known for its scenery sunsets granite peaks and Huangshan Pine

trees It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Chinas major tourist destinations The

Huangshan mountain range comprises many peaks some more than 1000 meters The tallest and

best-known peak is Lotus Peak (Lian Hua Feng 1864 m) which we gave a miss but we did venture

on a 5 hour hike upto Bright Summit Peak (Guang Ming Ding 1840 m)

Joining the trip was Philip Tsai President of HKICPA as the trip leader and the Hon Paul MP Chan Legislative Councillor (Accountancy) as the

trip consultant

Joint seminar on lsquoValuation for MampA transactions and its impact on financial reportingrsquo ndash 14 May 2011

On 14 May 2011 we jointly organised a seminar on the valuation for MampA transaction with AIA

The seminar addressed issues regarding valuation for MampA transactions including the regulatory

framework in Hong Kong and highlighted its impact on financial reporting It also provided an

introduction to business valuation its fundamentals and methodologies This wonderful event

received a full-house with over 90 participants

According to Feng Shui (an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to use the laws of both Heaven and Earth to help one improve life by receiving positive) at 100pm on the 23 May 2011 was suppose to be a very good date and time to start business Coincidently the new Hong Kong office was officially open by the George Glass President on his recent trip to the territory The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by a traditional roast pig-cutting ceremony signifying the lsquoopening of a prosperous pathway for blooming businessrsquo Attending the event were our honourable officers and also some fellow members of our institute

The office now meets our futures needs as if occupies a larger premise in Causeway Bay one of the busiest places in Hong Kong The new Times Square office is easily accessible to people living across the territory especially with the cross harbour bus stops and MTR just at our footstep The new premises provides adequate space for small classes for students and seminars for members in additional to a better layout for staff to work in

CIMA Hong Kong annual dinner ndash 24 May 2011

This yearrsquos annual dinner has attracted over 100 guests and we were so pleased to have Mr George Glass CIMA President flying all the way from UK to attend the fantastic event On the other hand it was a great pleasure to have Mr Paul Chan Mo-po MH JP Legislative Councillor of HKSAR being our honourable guest and distinguished member for the night The presence of Mr Chai Division Chief of the Central Government Liaison Office corporate partners HSBC and Jardine Matheson and the other representatives from the educational institutions and professional bodies also added more colours to the event

Highlights of the event included invaluable sharing from George and Paul prize presentations to newly qualified FCMA ACMA finalists and students with best exam results and several interesting and exciting games and lucky draws Congratulations to all the award and prize winners and we hope to see you all again next year
