December, 2011

Dear friends and family,

This was a good year for the Arizona branch of the

Campbell family. We woke up every morning,

there were no bones broken or vital organs lost, no

serious illness, the house didn’t burn down, the

stock market didn’t crash (once is enough!). In

other words, life went on. At our age, that’s good!

Dan continued to work part-time as a software

engineer, and Paulette has filled in a couple of

times at her old law firm, so we are both keeping

our minds active. That’s good.

We got to take a couple of nice trips. In January,

we spent a week in Carmel, in celebration of Dan’s

75th birthday. Then in July and August we took a

long road trip around the Western United States

and British Columbia.

Obviously, we’re not going to spend any time on

the Monterey Peninsula or at national parks such as

Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier and Mt. Rainier

without taking a few pictures.

On the following pages, you will find some of the

photos from those trips. We hope you enjoy, and

we hope that you enjoy a warm and happy

Christmas season and a fulfilling new year.

The first few pages are photos from our visit to the

Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula in January.

Some are captioned, but those that aren’t consist

of photos taken around the 17-Mile Drive, which

circles much of the Monterey Peninsula between

Monterey and Carmel. This is the area that Robert

Louis Stevenson called, “The most felicitous

meeting of land and sea in creation.”

From here on, photos are from our summer road trip:

From Arizona to Vegas to the Salt Lake area, to

Jackson Hole, Wyoming (and the Grand Teton and

Yellowstone National Parks), up to Montana and

Glacier National Park and Flathead Lake, through

the Northern Cascades of Washington to the

Seattle area and the Olympic Peninsula, then up to

Whistler, British Columbia for a week’s stay, on to

Victoria, B.C., and then home through Mt. Rainier

National Park, Washington, Oregon and California.
