Welcome to Christ’s Lutheran Church! May you experience the joy of God’s presence as we worship together this morning. We are blessed by your presence! Enjoy our gracious lobby to greet friends, guests, and visitors before the service. Please sign the guest book in the lobby if you are visiting with us today, and include your address and zip code. Please allow others to enjoy quiet space and time in the pews as they prepare for worship. Our musical prelude begins our worship experience. We encourage you to use this time to silently prepare to receive God’s Word. WHEN YOU LEAVE…..Introduce yourself to someone you do not know.

The flowers on the altar today are dedicated by Jerry & Sally Beil

in honor of the wedding of Jake and Megan!

You may download an electronic copy of the worship program to your electronic device by scanning the QR code on the lobby bulletin board. Cell Phones - Please silence your electronic devices before entering the worship area. We request that you put your cell phone on “airplane” mode to avoid any interference with the sound system. An AED is located in the office hallway. There is an automated external defibrillator (AED) in case of an emergency. Large Print Bulletins are available in the lobby, or ask an usher. Activity Bags for young children are also available in the lobby.

A lobby speaker and windows make it possible to see/hear the service from the Lobby in case you need to step out for your comfort or for attending to young children's needs.

Welcome and Announcements Moment for Reflection

GATHERING

The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.

Please stand in body or spirit.

The Confession and Forgiveness

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who forgives all our sin,

whose mercy endures forever. Amen. God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been

saved. In the name of ☩ Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty

God strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith. Amen.

THE WORD

God speaks to us in scripture, preaching, and song. The First Reading Acts 5:27-32

A reading from the book of Acts, Chapter 5.

Peter has been arrested for proclaiming the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection. His response to the charges of the high priest summarizes the early church’s proclamation of forgiveness of sin through repentance. 27When they had brought the apostles, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them, 28saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us.” 29But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than any human authority. 30The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. 31God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.” Word of God. Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

The Psalmody | Psalm 118:14-20 Be Not Afraid Hard Covered Hymn Book – ELW # 388

Reprinted by ownership of sufficient copies or license #, see page 3.

The congregation will sing the following response:

14The Lord is my strength and my song, and has become my salvation. 15Shouts of rejoicing and salvation echo in the tents of the righteous: “The right hand of the Lord acts valiantly! 16The right hand of the Lord is exalted! The right hand of the Lord acts valiantly!” 17I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

Response

18The Lord indeed punished me sorely, but did not hand me over to death. 19Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them and give thanks to the Lord. 20“This is the gate of the Lord; here the righteous may enter.”

Response

The Second Reading 1 Corinthians 15:19-26

A reading from First Corinthians, Chapter 15.

19If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. 20But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. 21For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; 22for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. 23But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Word of God. Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel John 20:19-31 The unprecedented events of the day of resurrection continue as the risen Jesus appears to his fearful disciples. A week later, after Thomas worships Jesus, Jesus pronounces that the blessings of the resurrection are also for those who “have not seen and yet believe.”

The Holy Gospel according to St. John, Chapter 20. Glory to you, O Lord.

19When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

24But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”

26A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

30Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Affirmation of Baptism | Reception of New Members

10: 30 am - Congregational Representative: We welcome into congregational membership Sherri Edwards, Marge Holmes, and Paul and Bonnie Zieger. We invite them to come forward at this time.

8 and 10:30 am - Pastor: Let us affirm the Christian faith together.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

10:30 am – Pastor: In the sacrament of Holy Baptism, we are welcomed into the body of Christ and sent to share in the mission of God. We are called to live among God’s faithful people, to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth. Sisters and brothers in Christ, do you intend to continue in the covenant of your baptism among God’s people in this place?

All: I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.

People of God, do you promise to support and pray for these sisters and this brother in Christ as they partner with us in our mission to connect to God, each other and the community.

All: We will and we ask God to help and guide us.

Congregational representative: Let us welcome Sherri, Marge, Paul and Bonnie to this community of faith and thank God with our applause.

The Prayers of Intercession

Please kneel or sit as you are able for the prayers. Trusting God’s promise of new life, we pray for the renewal of the church, the world, and all of creation.

A brief silence. Strengthen the witness of your church in all corners of the world. Make us visible signs of your grace so others see your goodness and come to believe. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Breathe life and peace into your creation. Protect homes, fields, and communities from damaging winds. Bless environmentalists, engineers, and legislators who work to curb pollution and to ensure clean air for us and for future generations. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Give to all government leaders a renewed spirit of humility and servanthood, following the example of Christ, our leader, savior, and ruler. Uphold cease-fires, treaties, and all agreements that further the cause of peace on earth. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. By the resurrection of the wounded Christ, draw near to those who are wounded in body or spirit. Liberate all who are bound by grief, abuse, addiction, or pain. Restore faith to the suffering. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Empower mission organizations and partners who provide for the physical and spiritual needs of our neighbors. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Here other intercessions may be offered. We give you thanks for all the saints who believed in you and who now enjoy eternal life in your name. Sustain us with your everlasting presence, for you are Alpha and Omega, our beginning and our end. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. We commend these and all our prayers to you, O God. Come near to us with your saving help, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen.

Please stand in body or spirit.

GREEN TEAM TIP: Easter Mon. was Earth Day, & since it started in 1970, CO2 has increased by 27% & recently the yearly rate of increase has doubled, a rate unmatched in the past 800,000 years, say the experts! “The next few years are probably the most important in our history” says Debra Roberts, scientist and a lead author of the UN’s latest climate report. Big cuts as in the Paris Agreement are needed – the ocean and ground can only absorb 1/3 of the new amounts - 2/3 stays in the air, heating the planet. Write to all elected representatives, who are not responding to, indeed rejecting this crisis!
