Parish Office PASTORAL POST
Written by Joel Ensign
I was born with a love of music and an ability – a gift some say, that has
allowed me to bring joy into the lives of many people, young and old
alike. I began publicly sharing this gift when I was in the 5 th
grade. After
my music teacher heard me play, he worked with me and eventually I was
invited to play during the school Mass on the 3 rd
Friday of every month. I
knew then that this was my passion. Bringing the gift of music to others
has been a dream come true for me.
I came to St. Matthias Parish in 1993 when Father James Smith hired me as
the church organist. Immediately I felt at home in this parish and
considered it a privilege to serve under Father Smith. Throughout the
years I met wonderfully kind and giving people, fellow parishioners, Father
Larussa and Father Davis, and each one of you has added to the joy I feel as
the organist. I have been honored to serve St. Matthias in this
capacity. Playing the organ over these last twenty-six years at the Masses,
funerals, weddings, graduations, holidays, and special celebrations has
filled my heart and created many memories that will live on forever.
Now, life moves on as life always does, and I am writing this post
announcing my retirement, effective May 1, 2019. I am looking forward to
much needed rest and relaxation. While my plans are still being
developed, I know I will visit with family and friends, still play concerts and
join you all as a fellow parishioner. Please know I will continue to offer my
services to all as needed, simply get hold of me.
Thank you all for being my church family over the years. I am very blessed
by all of you.
I remain your humble servant,
Joel
STEWARDSHIP MEDITATION
“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so
I send you.’” (John 20:21)
Peace – the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus sent the apostles out
into the world, so too, He sends us. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to
be grateful and generous. Look for opportunities to share His peace, not
only within our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as well. In
giving, we receive the peace of Jesus Christ.
