Chorleywood Champion
Inside this issue
Hello and Welcome Well now that the winter months are coming and we are all planning for festive activities I would like to take a moment to consider all things health and safety – slippery leaves, ice and snow makes it dangerous for us all – that coupled with the dark nights – so let’s all be careful. It’s been an interesting few months and we have welcomed new staff and said good bye to others but one thing remains very clear to me – that is our staff are the key people that make the service work. For the third year in a row we have received nominations for the Great British Care Awards and as such that means a team effort led by the kindness of the staff. We do also recognise our staff with employee of the month as well as staff recognition awards – if you are impressed with a staff member – let us know – write it down and I will be happy to acknowledge that member of staff. Additionally if you think there is room for improvements please let me know and I will work with the team to learn lessons and develop the team Keep warm and keep safe everyone

At the start of the month we were lucky enough to go to our local
Christ Church for their stunning Harvest Flower Festival which
they hold every 5 years! We explored the church and all the wonderful floral designs held
inside. We finished the day with teas and coffees in the Church’s tea room. Everyone at the Church was so welcoming & helpful! Thanks to
all who helped us have a marvelous day out.
Chorleywood Christ Church
Flower Festival
Inspired by the beautiful Flower Festival across the road, we all decided to have
an afternoon of making our own autumnal flower arrangements! Carole said ‘it’s like having a breath of fresh air in the building’. We admired all the deep reds, the golden yellows and the burnt orange flowers they’ve made us even more excited for the autumn season!

Birthday Celebrations
What a wonderful day we all had for Pamela’s 90th birthday! Pam hired out our
Conservatory Dining Room, all of her friends and family came round celebrating
with Pam on her Birthday. Everyone enjoyed a scrumptious meal prepared by our
talented chef, Callum Stoneham & his Team. A special thanks to our hostess Angela
who went the extra mile in decorating the room!

Zoolab comes to visit for Halloween
We had a wonderful Friday afternoon getting ready for Halloween with the
amazing Zoolab who came in with some creepy crawlies and told us a bit more
about some of their fascinating friends! We were all very brave and we stroked snakes, made friends with a tarantula, held a tree frog and became buddies with a couple of
gerbils! We all had a fantastic day and learned a lot. Thanks Zoolab for coming
and teaching us that not all creepy crawlies are in fact creepy!
Halloween
We decided to stay away from spooky & scary this year and decorated our pumpkins with shimmering golds and bright whites in an array of different patterns which we thought was much more effective! We also ate a lots of sweeties! We reminisced about how old we were when we all first tried a ‘Mars Bar’.

Bonfire Night
Making a Guy
Bonfire Night was once again a roaring success. Wrapped up
warm, we all gathered outside in the garden to watch the
gorgeous displays of fireworks whizz across our sky. The
Maintenance Team once again did a phenomenal job of
creating a spectacular show! We had a ‘Hot Chocolate’
station with marshmallows, whipped cream and sprinkles to
keep us warm as we watched the roaring fire. We can
certainly say, Chorleywood Bonfire Night went out with a
bang!
We had a hilarious afternoon making our ‘Guy’ for Bonfire Night, reminiscing about
how we used to make them with our children! We left our handsome Guy (if we
do say so ourselves) sat in the lounge reading a paper until we needed him! It was
safe to say we gave all the night staff a fright when they found him in his armchair
in the corner!

The Barchester Care Awards & Barchester in Bloom
A great day for Team Barchy
The Barchester Care Awards, including the garden categories (Barchester in Bloom), is an annual event that showcases the very best that Barchester has to offer. The Care Awards celebrates the fantastic individuals who work and volunteer in Barchester care homes across the UK; and Barchester in Bloom recognises the beautiful outdoor spaces tended by residents and staff members. Our Divisional Winners have already been named, and the award ceremony will be held in Manchester on October 11th, when the National Winners will be announced. Good luck to all our Divisional Winners and thank you to everyone who took the time to make a nomination.
A huge congratulations to the Barchester staff members who completed the London 10k in scorching heat this summer. The atmosphere in Central London was fantastic, with Westminster shut down to traffic and transformed into a moving street party of thousands of people running, cheering and laughing. The runners were also extremely busy fundraising ahead of the big day, smashing their target and raising an absolutely fantastic £2,119 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, plus gift aid.
