Chomps technology powers the most advanced search engine for native and web apps across the

worldwide iOS and Android markets. The metrics outlined in this report provide insight into app searchtrends across iOS and Android using Chomps on-device search functionality within the US during the

month of October.

Chomp for Android launched on February 28, 2011. Android and iOS metrics included in this edition of

App Search Analytics refers to data collected October 1 - 31, but references previous months for

trending and comparison purposes.

App Monetization

Paid app downloads increase by 4% on Android from 3% to 7% and 2% on iPhone from

18% to 20%. This month users appear to be opting for the paid versions of many apps or

opting for premium priced games such as Cut the Rope, Zenonia, Need for Speed,

Asphalt 6, and several paid launcher apps.

Best in Category

On Android, larger categories such as games, utilities, and entertainment, saw slight

downticks, while books, travel, and sports saw increases in their category share. For iOS,

games increased their share from 31.5% to 32.6% (up from 27.7% two months ago). Utility

apps increased their share from 6.0% to 7.1% as wallpaper and other customization apps

increase in popularity on iOS. Reference apps nearly halved their share from 8.8% last

month to 4.9% this month.

August Spotlight

Current Event Related QueriesSearch traffic for the query HALLOWEEN boomed during the month of October, as users

downloaded the seasonally themed versions of top apps such as Angry Birds Seasons and Bubble

Blast Halloween in addition to spooky wallpapers and soundboards.

International Search Trends & Top AppsDrag Racing is the newest game to hit the International charts on Android, while Adobe Flash

Player 10.3 remains a popular choice. On iPhone, Dermander Panarama, makes it debut and

Assassins Creed Altairs Chronicles remains a top app in 4 of the 6 featured countries.

The Chomp 55Month over month, the top apps have stayed constant across both Android and iPhone. Dropbox,

Google Sky Map and Ebay remain the top 3 on Android, while, TuneIn Radio, Instagram, and

Zombie Highway recaptured the top 3 spots on iPhone.

were concentrated at price points lower than $2.00 and were driven by the increasing popularity of paid
