Flow Assurance Drag and scale are of concern in flow assurance mitigation. Scaling in lines is a risk due to many factors including incompatibility of waters and changes in process conditions. The levels of scaling usually increase due to increases in water cuts, process operating conditions and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) operations. Paraffins, asphaltenes and hydrates in hydrocarbon pipelines can also curtail flow.

Asset Integrity Keeping equipment and infrastructure in optimum condition maximizes the life of the asset and keeps the revenue stream online. The system must stay safe and reliable, while meeting all governing agencies rules and regulations. The consequences of a failure can potentially cause harm to personnel safety, the environment, the corporate reputation and the financial health of the business.

Production Optimization Emulsions present challenges in achieving production optimization and water reuse. They can also create the ideal environment for microbialy induced corrosion. GE emulsion breakers present cost-effective products for all oilfield applications. Foaming issues in crude oil and condensates can lead to a loss of processing efficiency. GE anti-foamers have a proven record in controlling the toughest foams.

Chemical Feed In devising a chemical treatment solution, delivering the chemicals to the right injection point at the right treat rates is critical to success. The benefits of this include enhanced safety in chemical transfer, prevention of exposure to hazardous chemicals and no leaked discharge. GE tailor engineered system offer a safe operating environment and remain robust and reusable for many years.

Knowledge Management GE knowledge management InSight* is a secure cloud-based platform for managing data related to the performance of chemical applications. Virtually any data can be captured through several modes, including wireless, and is easily accessible via most handheld devices. Remote monitoring and diagnostic centers provide customer support and an additional level of application monitoring.

A specialty chemical offering is usually not a “one-size-fits-all” solution for complex challenges. The optimum treatment program is specifically identified often through a suite of uniquely engineered laboratory simulations.

The primary issue affecting performance and operational reliability in flow systems is the failure of a solids management strategy which can result in the buildup of emulsions and enable localized under deposit corrosion attacks.

A system achieves “asset integrity” when it has taken all necessary steps to minimize the risk of potential failures that can have drastic effects upon safety, cost and the environment.

Flow Assurance I Asset Integrity

Scaling can occur in well tubing, flow lines and separation vessels where deposits are likely to be caused by sulphates, carbonates and sulphides. Scale control through chemical inhibition using GE innovative chemistries such as the ProSolv SI range is the preferred method of maintaining well productivity. However, in cases where scales do form, non-damaging scale-removal technologies within the ProSolv SD* range are used for a quick remediation and metal surface instating. A scale inhibition program is prepared based on the scaling tendency modelling results. Once in place, a scale monitoring program is used to assess and optimize the effectiveness of the scale inhibition program.

GE’s hydrate inhibitors help operators control and dissolve hydrates accumulated in their production lines. GE hydrate inhibitors offer the advantages of costs, safety and production optimization.

A full solution flow assurance service GE full solution flow assurance service ensures the successful and cost-effective flow of hydrocarbon streams from the reservoir to the point of sale. GE’s best-in-class chemistries are formulated as multifunctional products for the mitigation of a variety of oil production issues, including wax, asphaltenes and scales. GE solutions for flow assurance address the most debilitating impacts caused by scales, hydrates, paraffins and asphaltenes.

Solutions for meeting demanding challenges GE experts continuously work on innovative solutions and chemistries to ensure the unhindered flow of hydrocarbons from the reservoir to the point of sale.

GE ProSolv WI*, ProSolv SI* and ProSolv AI* programs lead the way in paraffin, asphaltene and scale control solutions respectively. Using the most modern, sophisticated equipment for flowline modeling, deposition, rate prediction, restart modeling and asphaltene flocculation determination, GE technologists successfully address the challenges that hydrocarbon flow under various conditions, including subsea, present to operators worldwide.

Flow Assurance I Asset Integrity

A system achieves “asset integrity” when it has taken all necessary steps to minimize the risk of potential failures that can have drastic effects upon safety, cost and the environment.

The primary issue affecting performance and operational reliability in flow systems is the failure of a solids management strategy which can result in the buildup of emulsions and enable localized under deposit corrosion attacks.

Tailored solutions to maximize asset integrity GE Asset Integrity solutions address challenges under a wide range of operating conditions. The offered treatments cater to both sweet and sour environments, and maximize throughput while increasing production efficiency. GE solutions can help maintain asset integrity over the full project lifecycle.

As a major player and a global leader in oil field corrosion inhibition and services, GE has decades of world-class experience in safe guarding its customer’s assets. GE comprehensive chemical and engineered innovations together with its knowledge of traditional technologies, allows it to offer site specific solutions to effectively address corrosion, bacteria, hydrogen sulfide and other challenges that continue to remain a concern. Produced water in the system is the main cause of corrosion in the piping and vessels and the situation is compounded by the presence of acid gases associated with the hydrocarbons. De-aerating oxygen from the injection water is essential to mitigate corrosivity and protect injection networks.

Addressing asset integrity challenges Using proven modern monitoring technologies and

innovative ProSolv CI* chemistries, GE engineers design programs that effectively overcome the corrosion challenges faced by our customer assets.

Utilizing GE’s unique bacteria activity monitoring equipment, BIOSCAN*, and sessile monitoring racks that detect the presence of planktonic and sessile bacteria, GE specialists apply and optimize proven ProSolv BI technologies to help minimize microbialy induced corrosion and control its impact on metallic structures.

It is imperative that dissolved oxygen is excluded from all surface equipment associated with seawater, river water and aerated produced water injection systems. GE range of ProSolv OS* oxygen scavengers are widely used as effective mitigation chemistries to prevent oxygen reduction reactions and induced corrosion.

GE H2S scavenger chemistries under the ProSolv HS* series provide a cost-effective alternative to conventional gas/liquid sweetening processes to control hydrogen sulfide corrosion. This treatment is effective in a wide range of applications including H2S removal from gas streams, sour hydrocarbon liquids (condensate streams) and liquid tank vapor spaces. The ProSolv HS series contains non amine based technologies to avoid any adverse impact on downstream catalysts and refining processes.

Production Optimization I Chemical FeedProduction Optimization I Chemical Feed

for direct connection to dosing pumps to provide proportional control.

Chemical storage options to support chemical feed systems Treatment chemicals are usually delivered and stored in one of three ways: bulk, semi-bulk and drums. The choice among these three depends on a number of factors, including usage rate, safety requirements, shipping regulations, available space, and inventory needs.

Large users often find it advantageous to handle their liquid chemical delivery and storage in bulk. Treatment can be drawn from these bulk storage vessels and injected directly into the water system or added to a smaller, secondary feed tank, which serves as a day tank and safety buffer. Where chemical feed rates are not large enough to justify bulk delivery in tankers and its storage, chemicals can be supplied in reusable shuttle tanks. The use of drums for storing chemicals has seen a drop in recent years due mainly to environmental concerns. Along with storage, delivery systems such as a chemical metering pump or even a simple gravity feed mechanism are the heart of a chemical feed system.

Delivering chemicals at the right injection point at the right treat rates A well engineered feed system is an integral part of an effective chemical treatment program. If a feed system is not designed properly, chemical control will not meet specifications, program results may be inadequate, and operating costs will probably be excessive. “Plug & play” electric or pneumatic chemical feed packaged systems are used for accurately delivering liquids, including highly corrosive chemicals, into processes at the most effective injection points.

Typical applications for chemical feed systems include chemical injection in onshore & offshore oil fields including all types of production enhancement chemical programs, water treatment, capillary string injection of surfactant for gas well de-watering, high pressure methanol injection to inhibit hydrate formation/freezing, pressure testing & logging of field equipment, wellhead tool control, corrosion inhibitor from wellhead to refinery and acids & bases for pH control in many chemical processing applications.

To control flows and optimize treat rates, GE can also provide various types of flow meters which are ideal for providing analogue or pulse signals to controllers or

If a chemical feed system is not designed properly, chemical control will not meet specifications, program results may be inadequate, and operating costs will probably be excessive.

To achieve production optimization, it is prudent to put in an effective phase separation program to address the formation of emulsions and foam. The program can also address the cleaning up of produced water for reuse or disposal.

Addressing foam and emulsions are key to production optimization The gradual breakthrough of water into oil-bearing formations and the advent of secondary and tertiary recovery methods have increased the need for the development of effective technologies to break the resulting oil-water emulsions. Emulsions are stable mixtures of two immiscible liquids typically stabilized by emulsifying agents such as naturally occurring solids, resins, corrosion products, asphaltenes and organic acids in the produced fluids. Such an emulsion can be altered by heat, chemicals, electricity or mechanical devices or any combination of these. A comprehensive and efficient process treatment is critical to achieving marketable crude oil quality in

compliance with sale specifications and environmental regulations.

Emulsion Breakers are chemical compounds which help break emulsions and enhance oil-water separation. They work by attacking the droplet interface to either cause dispersed droplets to aggregate intact or to rupture and coalesce into larger droplets. As the droplet size increases, the separation force between the oil and water increases and gravity separation is enhanced.

Cost-effective products to meet challenging goals GE ProSolv EB* chemistries have proven to be very successful in demulsification applications in a wide variety of crudes. They also have the advantage of assisting with cold separation, reducing fuel consumption. ProSolv RB* series are also proven flocculation and coagulation products in oil-water separation applications promoting cleaner water enabling use for EOR and/or safe utilization or disposal.

Foaming tendency and de-foaming of crude oil can be mitigated both through separator design and chemical approaches. GE provides the ProSolv AF* series which works to prevent or collapse foam by concentrating on the oil-gas surfaces and rupturing the lamella or oil films between the gas bubbles.

To achieve production optimization, it is prudent to put in an effective phase separation program to address the formation of emulsions and foam. The program can also address the cleaning up of produced water for reuse or disposal.

If a chemical feed system is not designed properly, chemical control will not meet specifications, program results may be inadequate, and operating costs will probably be excessive.
