You are doing your “germ Lab today”. Please write the materials on a separate sheet of paper:Materials:Ziploc baggies , vinegar, paper, pencils, baking soda, spoons, cups.

GERM LAB

Procedure:You will each get a ziploc baggie. One partner will have flour and one will not. Please work with your lab partner first , then walk around the classroom and exchange one to two spoonfuls of flour with every classmate. One person will have a bag full of baking soda. The baking soda represents the germs of a student or on a desk. After each student has finished the exchange, we will add vinegar to the mixture. Bubbles

GERM LAB HYPOTHESIS

Predict:What do you think will happen to the mixture? How do you know a chemical reaction will have taken place?

LAB CLEAN UP

Spoons go in baggies marked “SPOONS GERM LAB”Wipe off your desk with water and paper towelsThrow away in the large trash can cups, trash, & ziploc baggies full of flour.Use as little paper towels as possible (we have one roll for the rest of the year!)

CONCLUSION

Write one to two paragraphs on the chemical reaction that took place. Explain what you did and if your hypothesis was correct or incorrect. Make sure you include what the baking soda represented. Do germs spread easily in a classroom?
