ACS National Meeting
A National Chemistry Week Invitation
Several events related to this year’sNational Chemistry Week celebrationare planned for the ACS national meet-ing in Washington, DC.
How-to Session for Organizers
A special session will be held forNCW coordinators and others who areinterested in holding events this year. Itwill take place Sunday afternoon, August20 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the May-flower Hotel and will give you ideasabout the materials and publicationsthat will be available to help you carryout this year’s theme, Kitchen Chemis-try. There will be suggestions about howto become involved in the celebration’sunifying event—conducting a food col-lection campaign to benefit a charity inyour area. Discussions will also focus onforming partnerships for NCW and be-coming familiar with the new safetyguidelines developed by the NCW TaskForce.
Outreach Workshop
Also on the agendais “Fun with Food:NCW and StudentAffiliates Joining Forces”. Come andparticipate as National Chemistry WeekTask Force members illustrate importantaspects of carrying out NCW outreachprograms. The workshop will highlightsuch points as how to: 1. select activi-ties for your audience; 2. distribute ma-terials efficiently; 3. conduct the activi-ties safely; and 4. form partnerships toenhance your programming. You will bepart of the program as you carry out anumber of activities related to the NCW2000 theme, Kitchen Chemistry. Thisworkshop will be held on Monday, Au-gust 21, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. atthe Hotel Washington.

This workshop, sponsored by theChemical Education Research Commit-tee of CHED, will be an interactive ses-sion. Experienced chemical educationresearchers will interact with people whoare interested in beginning a chemicaleducation research project. The goal isto help prospective researchers learn thekinds of questions that can be answeredby different types of chemical educationresearch methodologies and learn howto define these questions in such a waythat they can be answered by the re-search proposed.
