Local law enforcement includes metropolitan, county, and rural and small town law enforcement. Theduties, functions, and responsibilities of these local law enforcement agencies are: perform routine

patrol or traffic stops, enforce all traffic laws (including parades and other public events), arrest law

violators, issue licenses and permits. These individuals are sometimes in uniforms and can beinvestigators as well. The Sheriff's office also had duties to perform like, court attendants, civil process,

and other law enforcement jobs. Local law enforcement agencies are the ones who patrol our local

neighborhoods for any suspicious activities that can evolve into a crime being committed. Both police

officers and sheriff have to respond to 911 calls, give protect to the public, watch street activity, anduphold the law. Local law enforcers can not override State laws, so any State matters have to be handle

by State officials. Any local law officer has to investigate crimes and help State and Federal authorities

    with investigate crimes when needed.

State officials are in every U.S. state expect for Hawaii. The have jurisdiction over the state the are

sworn in as a whole. Their duties, functions, and responsibilities are: to protect the governor and thevice governor, the properties they live in are secured. State officials also help maintain the motor

vehicle laws. These officials investigate homicides and arson. Some of the State officials similar duties

to local law enforcers. They also carry out duties for the local police, such as training academies, andcriminal identification.

The differences between local and state officials is that the State investigate arson and murders. The

state also has different crime labs, such as, the Forensic lab; which local police have to rely on. TheState also deals more with politics and other corruption within the state.

The three Federal Law Enforcement Agencies are: The Department of Treasury, Department of theInterior, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Department of Treasury: This agency has administrative control over the IRS, as well as other financialagencies, and anything that has to do with financial crimes, drug trafficking and terrorism. With the

IRS this agency looks over federal income tax and collects back taxes. The Criminal Investigation

make sure illegal use of mail service does not happen. They check for bombs, firearms and drugs just toname a few. The U.S. Postal Service covers more than 200 federal statutes that deal with the postal
