States’ approaches to taxing EVs
• Nothing – EVs are either too insignificant or states have no solution – Doing nothing leaves money on the table and is not fair
• Flat Fees are, or have been considered, by numerous states including… – Georgia, Virginia, Washington, New Jersey, North Carolina, Indiana – Flat fees don’t drive the connected vehicle future
• Road Usage Charges (Vehicle Miles Traveled) – Drives the connected vehicle future and is fair – Does not solve the state’s immediate needs –
• Thus, gets overlooked despite long-term value

The EV is here
• Nissan Leaf 80-100 miles on a full charge • Average daily drive ~ 30 miles • Time to full charge is rarely relevant!
• High powered chargers can charge for an average day’s commute in about 12 minutes or to full capacity in about 30 minutes. – But Consumers are not aware of this
• Prices are still high
