CHARACTERISATION

Characterisation is the process of creating a believable character.

A character is developed through physical and verbal characterisation.

Characterisation should reveal a characters status (position) in relation to other characters.

CHARACTERISATION

Physical characterization refers to the way your character looks and moves.

This involves :• His / her posture and the way he / she walks,• His / her mannerisms,• His / her body language towards other characters

and circumstances,• His / her facial expressions • Eye contact• Costumes and make-up

CHARACTERISATION

Vocal characterisation refers to the way your character sounds.

This involves the way you module (control, adapt, change) your voice to sound like your character:

• Pitch (make your voice high or low)• Volume (make your voice loud or soft)• Pace (speak fast or slow)• Stress (put emphasis on certain words)• Tone (convey emotion through your voice)• Pause (be silent between words or sentences)
