We are fortunate to reside in Donald P. Kennedy Hall, a spectacular structure designed exclusively for the law school that includes a three-story law library, state of the art classrooms, and two fully equipped moot courtrooms. We are located in the historic “Old Towne” district

of Orange, California. Law students enjoy all of the university amenities, including sports and fi tness facilities, main campus research library, and music and drama productions.

Chapman University School of Law provides fi nancial assistance, in a manner that maintains the dignity of individual and the integrity of the Federal Aid Program. Th e objective of the Law Financial Aid Offi ce is to award students according to their fi nancial need, in accordance with established policies and regulations, so that they can focus on their legal education.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon aft er January 1 as possible. Th e Federal School Code for Chapman University School of Law is E00867. � e priority deadline is March 2, 2012.

Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) carefully, and contact the Chapman School of Law Financial Aid offi ce if corrections or updates are required.

First Year Law StudentsChapman is pleased to off er merit-based scholarships to fi rst year students, ranging from 10-100% of tuition.

Students are automatically considered and notifi ed by the Law Admissions Offi ce of their scholarship award at the time the off er of admission is extended. A separate application is not required.

� ese renewable awards are based on LSAT scores and undergraduate cumulative GPA.

Need BasedChapman Law has a limited pool of need-based scholarships available to fi rst-year students. � is is a renewable scholarship which is awarded to eligible students who have completed a FAFSA form, have demonstrated fi nancial need and remain in good academic standing.

Merit BasedStudents entering Catalog year 2007 or beyondStudents who are awarded a merit scholarship upon admission to the JD program will renew their merit scholarship during their second and third year if they maintain a 3.00 GPA or better.

Students who did not qualify for an entering merit scholarship, will be awarded one their second or third year provided they rank in the top 10% of their cohort group.

Determination of who is classifi ed as a 2L or 3L student ranking is made by the Registrar in accordance with School of Law policies. First-year students are ranked with their entering class for the purposes of scholarship consideration. Except in the case of error, scholarships will not be adjusted due to any re-ranking adjustments made a� er the initial spring rankings are released. � e priority consideration deadline for merit scholarships is April 1, 2012.

FINANCIAL AID: Paying for Your Education

PROCEDURES FOR APPLYING TO FINANCIAL AID

Federal programs administered by the fi nancial aid offi ce include Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Direct Staff ord Loans, and Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans, all of which must be repaid. Detailed information is available from the Law Financial Aid Offi ce. In addition, aft er the fi rst year of study, students may be off ered work study to allow them to earn part of their fi nancial aid.

GENERALPOLICIES

Private loans are off ered by banks and private companies and are based on credit history and ability to pay as determined by the lender.

An available scholarship page is maintained on the law fi nancial aid website. Students are encouraged to check this regularly.

Many local bar associations, corporations, community groups, and fraternal organizations off er scholarships, grants, and loans to students pursuing a law degree. Students are encouraged to research these opportunities by contacting such organizations directly or through the Internet. A few suggested websites are www.fi naid.org, and www.abanet.org. All scholarships received by students must be reported to the Law Financial Aid Offi ce so that the award can be coordinated with any federal funds the student is receiving.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES: How to Apply

Please include a brief statement indicating your reasons for wanting to study law, why you chose to apply to Chapman University School of Law, and any further information that you feel should be considered by the Law Admissions Committee. � e personal statement cannot be more than three pages in length, must be typewritten, 12 point font, and double-spaced. (Please submit as an attachment with your electronic application.)

� e personal statement is an important part of the application review process and it is given careful and meaningful consideration. It is an opportunity for you to share with the Law Admissions Committee insight into who you are as a person, your career goals, and your interest in the legal profession. Chapman University School of Law seeks a diverse student body, and you are welcome to share information in your personal statement that relates to your multicultural experiences, international/overseas experiences, fl uency in foreign languages, ethnicity, geographic background, special talents or skills (e.g., music, drama, art), socioeconomic factors (e.g., fi rst generation college graduate, history of overcoming hardship, adversity), and other factors that you feel best refl ect who you are as a person. Providing such information is voluntary.

PERSONALSTATEMENT

All applicants must furnish their results of the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), register for LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service, and pay all requisite LSAC mandated fees. If you have a decrease or increase in your LSAT score by fi ve points or more, please provide a written explanation for the disparity. (Please submit as an attachment with your electronic application.) Note: those with international credentials should read further for an exception on the Credential Assembly Service (CAS). Only LSAT results from February 2007 through the current cycle are considered for Fall 2012 admission. Please note that we will not accept the June 2012 LSAT score if you are applying as a fi rst-year student. Please arrange to have all transcripts mailed directly to LSAC by the institution(s) you have attended.

LSAT & LSAC’S CREDENTIALASSEMBLY SERVICE(CAS)

Chapman University School of Law also requires that your letters be submitted through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service that serves all member schools.

Positive and meaningful recommendations concerning the applicant’s analytical skills and communication and writing abilities can be helpful to the Committee in the decision-making process. Typically, professors, academic administrators and advisors, and employers are best able to address these qualities and characteristics in an applicant. Recommendations from professors who have taught you in a course are strongly recommended, especially if you have graduated with an undergraduate degree within the last fi ve years. � e maximum number of letters we will review is three.

Note: � is service is included in your CAS Registration. Your letters will be copied and sent to Chapman University School of Law , along with your CAS report. To use this service, follow the instructions for submitting letters outlined on www.LSAC.org or in the LSAC Information Book. Be sure to fi ll out and give each letter-writer a Letter of Recommendation Form from the website at www.LSAC.org.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

We only accept applications that have been prepared using the Law School Admission Council’s electronic applications service.

� is product allows you to effi ciently fi ll out applications for all ABA-approved law schools.

Applications submitted to LSAC for transmission to Chapman University School of Law will be considered postmarked on the day they are electronically submitted.

Th e application fee is $75. If you have been granted a fee waiver by the Law School Admission Council, the application fee will be automoatically waived upon applying. If you would like to apply for a need based fee waiver, please visit www.chapman.edu/admission/law/generalPolicies.asp#feewaiver.

LSAC ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS

Please provide a detailed description of your work experience, community involvement, volunteer work, scholastic honors and achievements, and/or extra-curricular activities. Please include dates and number of hours per week. Your résumé must be typewritten. (Please submit as an attachment with your electronic application.)

RESUME

Chapman University School of Law requires that your foreign transcripts be submitted through the LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS) if you completed any postsecondary work outside the US (including its territories) or Canada, you must use this service for the evaluation of your foreign transcripts. � e one exception to this requirement is if you completed the foreign work through a study-abroad, consortium, or exchange program sponsored by a US or Canadian institution, and the work is clearly indicated as such on the home campus transcript. � is service is included in the Credential Assembly Service registration fee. A Foreign Credential Evaluation will be completed by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Offi cers (AACRAO), which will be incorporated into your CAS report. If we determine that you need to submit a TOEFL score, you must contact the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and request that your TOEFL score be sent to LSAC. LSAC’s TOEFL code for the Credential Assembly Service is 0058. Your score will be included in the Foreign Credential Evaluation document that will be included in your CAS Report.

To use the Credential Assembly Service, log in to your online account and follow the instructions for registering for the service. Be sure to print out a Transcript Request Form for each institution and send it promptly to them. More time is usually required to receive foreign transcripts.

INTERNATIONALAPPLICANTS

Profi ciency in English is required for admission. Some international applicants may be required to furnish offi cial results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). International applicants should check with the Law Admissions Offi ce for details. � e minimum score requirement for admission consideration is 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, and 100 on the internet-based test. Applicants are not required to notify the law school of a disability or a need for accommodation prior to admission. Any information concerning an applicant’s disability provided during the admissions process is voluntary and optional and is maintained as confi dential information in the law school. No limitations are placed on the number of persons with disabilities who may be admitted or enrolled. Applicants with disabilities may wish to contact LSAC to inquire about the possibility of receiving testing accommodations for the LSAT.

SPECIALNEEDS

All Transfer Applicants will apply exclusively online via the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC). Chapman University School of Law does not accept hardcopy applications.

Applicants must be:

• Currently enrolled (or on an approved leave of absence);

• In good academic standing at their current law school;

• Finished with their fi rst year of a full-time or part-time J.D. program at an ABA-approved law school in the United States, by the time of enrollment.

If you have been academically dismissed from your home institution, you are not eligible to apply as a transferapplicant to our program.

To Apply:

1. LSAC Electronic Applications: We only accept applications that have been prepared using the Law School Admission Council’s electronic applications service. � is product allows you to effi ciently complete applications for all ABA-approved law schools.

2. Check the “Transfer” box on your application and indicate for which semester you are applying.

3. Upload your Personal Statement which explains the reason(s) you wish to transfer to Chapman Law.

4. You may include any other information that you would like the Law Admissions Committee to consider in reviewing your application.

5. Request that the Registrar or Dean of Students at your current law school transmit directly to us a letter of good standing indicating class rank or quartile standing.

6. Submit an offi cial transcript of your completed law school coursework to LSAC.

7. Transfer students must order a CAS report to be sent to Chapman University School of Law.

8. Two letters of recommendation are required, one of which must be from a law professor who has taught you. � ese letters must be submitted directly to CAS. Typically, professors, academic administrators and advisors, and employers are best able to address these qualities and characteristics in an applicant. We will accept a maximum of three letters of recommendation.

TRANSFERAPPLICANTS

Successful transfer applicants must plan to meet with the Associate Dean of Academic Aff airs prior to matriculation and to provide course descriptions and syllabi for the evaluation of credits and courses for transfer.

EVALUATIONOF CREDITS

Transfer students whose applications are pending admission are eligible to attend Chapman Law’s Summer Session, but those students will be regarded as visiting students until a fi nal decision on the transfer status has been rendered by the Law Admissions Committee. Please note a separate application process is required for students to attend Chapman Law’s Summer Session. Contact the Law Registrar’s Offi ce for separate information and an application for the Summer Session.

SUMMERSESSION

In order to be considered for admission, an applicant must have, or be scheduled to receive by the time of fall matriculation, a bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent from a fully-accredited institution of higher learning in the US or abroad. All letters of acceptance to Chapman University School of Law are conditional upon the applicant having earned the bachelor’s degree prior to fall matriculation.

� e transcript(s) that applicants initially submit to LSAC are not considered offi cial transcripts by the American Bar Association (ABA). All admitted students who plan on matriculating should have their offi cial transcript sent directly to Chapman University School of Law from the school which they have earned the bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent prior to fall matriculation.

If the application materials do not meet the requirements, there may be a delay in processing your fi le and a subsequent delay in placing your fi le into review.

Please do not send any information directly to the Law Admissions Offi ce. If you have any additional information that you cannot upload as an attachment with your electronic application, please fax the documents to (888) 289-5033.

OFFICIALTRANSCRIPTS

If admitted to the law school, those planning to enroll will be required to submit two separate nonrefundable seat deposits of $300 each. Although these seat deposits are nonrefundable, they will be applied to student accounts upon matriculation.

All Visiting Student Applicants will apply exclusively online via the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC). Chapman University School of Law does not accept hardcopy applications.

A visiting student is defi ned as one who will graduate from his or her home law school, but who wishes to enroll at Chapman Law for one or two semesters. Applications for visiting status are accepted only from students enrolled at an ABA-approved law school.

Applicants must be:

• Currently enrolled (or on an approved leave of absence);

• In good academic standing at their current law school;

• Must have completed, by the time of enrollment, the substantial equivalent of a typical fi rst-year law curriculum at an ABA-approved law school.

VISITINGAPPLICANTS

To Apply:

1. Check the “Visiting” box on your application and indicate for which semester you are applying

2. Upload your Personal Statement which explains the reason(s) you wish to visit at Chapman Law.

3. Request that the Registrar or Dean of Students at your current law school transmits directly to us a transcript, letter of good standing with class rank that refl ects the results of all completed academic work, and a copy of your CAS report.

4. Th e letter of good standing should also contain a statement from your home institution to the eff ect that Chapman Law credits will be accepted toward fulfi llment of your degree requirements. Any other terms and conditions should also be specifi ed.

5. Th ese letters may be submitted directly from the recommender to Chapman Law. Typically, professors, academic administrators and advisors, and employers are best able to address these qualities and characteristics in an applicant. We will accept a maximum of three letters of recommendation.

Many graduates of Chapman University School of Law enjoy signifi cant success once they take on their new careers. Chapman Law graduates, as well as many current students, have successfully secured employment with an impressive array of legal and corporate entities, including major national law fi rms, banks and corporations. Our Career Services and Professional Development Offi ce off ers effi cient and eff ective networking between our students and employers.

Chapman Law provides a wide variety of opportunities for alumni to network and remain in touch with former classmates, such as regional mixers, the annual Law Day picnic, Chapman Law Day at Angel Stadium, and the Alumni/Student Bar Association golf tournament. In addition, the law school off ers several continuing legal education presentations each year. � ese programs are provided at no cost or a nominal charge to our alumni. Finally, Chapman Law’s Career Services Offi ce is available to alumni throughout their legal careers.
