Governor Jack Wilson Visits Divisions

NJ District Governor Jack Wilson has been visiting Divisions in the District to spread his challenge to club presi-dents, secretaries and other members to grow our numbers. The February 28th meeting of Division 6, hosted by the Linden and New Brunswick clubs, was held at Amici’s Ristorante in Linden.

Hall of Fame for Gandley Congratulations to Steve Gandley who was named to Warren County Col-lege’s Hall of Fame for his volunteerism. He has served for 23 years in various Ki-wanis positions including District Gover-nor, LTG of Division 16, Foundation Board member and current NJ District Key Club Zone Administrator. ‘Building Bridges to Future of Kiwanis for the Centennial and Beyond’ was the session that Ki-wanis International Trustee Kevin Dean and Past Governor Steve Nagel presented at a breakout session. The workshop provided an overview of KI Presi-dent Gunter Gasser’s theme for the year to strengthen membership, empower districts to grow and provide a more engaged membership. In the afternoon session held in the auditorium KIF awards were presented by KIF President Lance Incitti. Then he, along with past NJ District Gover-nor and Chair Michael Mulhaul and Past Gover-nor Barrie Werfel spoke about the Eliminate Pro-gram. President of NJ District Foundation William Cater provided remarks about the importance of the Foundation. Secretary Gwen Walding gave closing an-nouncements and Gov. Jack Wilson adjourned the meeting.

Kiwanis International’s Path to Growth

A Lesson for Us All...At the Mid-Winter Conference held on February 1 at the Conference Center at Mercer County Community College, Trustee Kevin Dean gave a “wake-up call” with his Key Note Address that referred to the sea turtle that doesn’t give up, but has learned to adapt, evolve and survive; a lesson for our Kiwanis Clubs.

On to Japan...Lt. Governor Anthony Affatati with former Governor Joe Teti enjoy the continental breakfast with other Kiwanians at Mid-Winter. Mr. Affatati, Chair for International Convention, spoke to the group in the afternoon about the incredible opportunity to visit Chiba, Tokyo, Japan by attending the Kiwanis International Convention in July.

Sparta Rocks

Volunteerism Rings Out in Sparta Sparta Kiwanis members, along with the Sparta High School Key Club and volunteers worked a total of 390 hours, starting in mid Decem-ber through Christmas Eve ringing the bell during the Salvation’s Army traditional Red Kettle Drive. Mike Zingaro was the chair of the event. With this year’s donations the Salvation Army of Dover is able to provide assistance to 300 families, which include 652 children and 500 adults, with clothing, food and other necessities. To date the Kiwanis Club of Sparta date has collected and donated $367,083.00 to the Salvation Army of Dover since they started working with the campaign in 1994.

Committed...Children’s Specialized Hospital representa-tive Sara MacDuff, community engagement coordinator, accepts a check from the Linden Kiwanis and the Linden K-Kids clubs who heeded NJ District’s call to raise money for the organization.

A ccording to the NJToday.com, Linden Public Schools’ K-Kids Clubs, which are sponsored by the Linden Kiwanis Club, presented a check for

$2,500 to a Children’s Specialized Hospital representa-tive on Jan. 23, 2014. The proceeds were raised through last fall’s annual Walk-A-Thon Halloween Parade project. Infineum USA Inc. and Severyn Furs Salon of Linden were among the donors that made this gift possible. School No. 4 raised the most money, with the sup-port of Principal Anthony Cataline, K- Kids adviser Danielle Piscino, the students and Kiwanian Alfred Volpe.

• New Jersey Circle K ‘s Con-vention will celebrate their Golden, 50-Year Anniversary on the weekend of March 14—16 at the Radisson Hotel Piscataway. Best wishes to Shivam Patel and Circle K.

• Good thoughts and best wishes to Celeste Werfel who will take on the responsibili-ties of heading the K-Kids in New Jersey for the rest of this year and the 2014-15 year.

Golf Outing 2013 results are in! They raised enough money to write two checks for $2,500 each for the area Volunteer Fire Department and the First Aid Squad. Participated in: “Cycle for Survival” where six members took turns spinning for 4 hours to raise $2,500. Asked to participate in: Special Olympics in NJ in June Honored: One of their members, Craig Dufford, was awarded Livingston Township’s Mentor Award for 2013. Ac-cording to their newsletter, the former Fire Chief and Fire In-spector is “a teacher, supporter, motivator, listener and friend.”
