GETTING TO THE ROOTS• Unemployment is defined as a state when people are without work but are actively

seeking work. This problem has escalated to unimaginable heights throughout the world.

• According to the International Labor Organization Report, more than 197 million people globally are out of work. In India, 9.8% of the total workforce is unemployed, with 7.6% of rural youth unemployment and 13.9% urban youth unemployment.

• Since the youth form the pillars of the country, tackling the issue at the very roots becomes important This research paper outlines the problem of unemployment among the youth of India and provides a working model that will assist in eradicating unemployment at the grassroots.

• Active research indicated that the major cause of unemployment in India is poor educative practices resulting in unemployable graduates. The proposed model entwines education with employment so as to achieve a twin objective.

• Education system in India provides theoretical knowledge, thereby creating unemployable graduates.

MODEL• The model created by the A Team aims at employment

through education.• Educated, unemployed youth will be identified and engaged

as teachers and mentors to educate the uneducated in rural areas. This includes the education of children, youth and adults alike.

• Simultaneous skill development of adults is proposed to be undertaken in areas such as tailoring, sewing, domestic chores, etc. so that they can find employment in alternative fields.

• Provide training in basic computer skills so that it increases employable worth.

• Rural entrepreneurship will be encouraged. Handmade produce such as handicrafts and pottery will be sold through an online portal, thereby generating income for the rural population.

ON-FIELD IMPLEMENTATION• The first phase has already seen on-field progress in a school in the Kanchipuram

district of Tamil Nadu, India. The district has only one school, which provides education till the eighth grade. The students interested in higher education have to travel over 10km to attend high school.

• Three graduates and four volunteers, worked at the school for one month, interacting with primary and middle school students on various topics.

• Soft skill development was targeted in the first month, helping the children to speak their mind, work in a team and share any success or defeat collectively.

• On the other hand, online portals and youth that sell rural artifacts have already been contacted and product estimates have been requested.

• The next phase is targeted at encouraging the middle school students to take up higher education and vocational skill training so as to brighten their future prospects.

• As mentioned above, the students will be trained in various skills of their choice, currently comprising of tailoring, sewing, domestic chores, IT skills and beautician courses. The team is on the search for trained people in these fields.

The model has employed a portion of the unemployed in the district through organized employment as well as entrepreneurship. The Educate to Employ model of Project Panorama aims to employ the unemployed yet educated youth in rural districts to improve the quality of their education. Skill enhancement and rural entrepreneurial development will

increase employment opportunities for the uneducated, thereby widening the spheres.

Financial resources are proposed to be marshalled through personal resources as well as donations from corporates and individuals.

Human resources will be generated through unemployment databases and NGOs.

Salary and administrative expenses will be met through the sale of rural artifacts and donations.

Following successful implementation in one district, the project will be extended to other parts of the country.
