Photo Editor

• The Photo Editor leads the photo staff in taking and developing high-quality pictures.

• The most important job of the editor is to edit photos for quality control. – Both in the initial negatives and later in the print

and electronic copies.

Staff Photographer

• The Staff Photographer takes pictures, processes film, makes prints, and performs all functions necessary for taking and processing photos.

• Also He/She must gather necessary info for the photo captions.

Photo Assignment

• You need to understand basic photographic techniques to take good pics.

• When taking photos for a publication simply taking a photo is not good enough

• The photo must also work with the story it goes along with and fit within the goals of a specific publication.

Making Specific Assign.

• To avoid potential problems with a certain photo you have to make sure that the photographers have a clear and precise assignment.

• For example, telling a person to shoot pictures of the star forward on the basketball team on Saturday gives the person a clear and precise job to do.

Shooting Photos

• When you accept assignments you need to be committed and to take that job seriously.

• Advance Preparation– Arrive early– Make an appointment if taking a portrait– Take a lot of pics– Avoid poised shoots– Always come prepared

Captions

• The who, what, when, where, why and how.• Sometimes captions may be nothing more than

the persons name. • Writing the Caption– DON’T: Students participate in the apple-bobbing

contest during Harvest Fest– DO: Apple-Bobber Andrea Thompson, junior, chomps

on her prize during the annual Harvest Fest apple-bobbing contest. Senior Nina Fuentes won the event.

• Simply put, the editor picks the best photo that describes what the article was about.
