WHILE CENTRAL FLORIDA’S Polk County is just minutes from the gates of the world’s most famous family attractions, we’ve got so much more to offer your vacation than just ride queues and cartoon characters. It is picturesque gardens, a singing Carillon tower, the world’s largest private collection of vintage aircraft, a safari adventure, Florida’s newest and most uniquely beautiful golf course and 554 lakes brimming with fish or prime for water sports. In fact, Central Florida’s Polk County is fast becoming “play and stay” central for families everywhere looking to enjoy theme park thrills, but also relax, rejuvenate and reconnect while surrounded by the beauty of natural Florida.

Anchored by LEGOLAND® Florida – America’s newest kid-friendly theme park – Polk County can keep you and your family happily occupied for days with a variety of uniqueattractions, natural wonders, tantalizing cuisine and sensational shopping – while keeping you within easy reach of all the magic Central Florida has to offer. And it’s more affordable too!

But don’t take our word for it. Check out the TripAdvisor® comments we’ve included in the guide to get a sense for what real Central Florida visitors are saying about their experiences. They’d probably all agree: it’s a “have-a-blast” family vacation formula – one that might have you raving to your friends* when you get back home.

*Naturally, we wouldn’t mind if you came back with your friends for a return visit. You’d probably make a fabulous tour guide anyway, right?

THIS SHOULD RING YOUR CARILLON BELL. Bok Tower Gardens – LAKE WALES

Perched on the highest elevation in Florida, this hidden gem will elevate your spirit with its stunningly beautiful gardens, Singing Tower carillon, family friendly nature trails and educational events. BE A KID AGAIN. AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. LEGOLAND® Florida – WINTER HAVEN

The vividly humble plastic brick has occupied the hearts and minds of children for generations. Now, more than 58 million LEGO® bricks are fully assembled and on dramatic display to produce the most stunning creation yet – LEGOLAND® Florida.

Coined “Florida’s funnest theme park,” the key to this experience is the interactivity of

the more than 50 rides, shows and attractions, including Miniland Florida, the LEGOLAND® Water Park, multiple “pink-knuckle”

coasters, a live-action, waterski stunt show and

so much more!

Page 9: Central Florida Vaction Guide - 2014 Edition

IT goes without saying that there is so much to see and so little time, so

if you have limited time in Central Florida you might ask, “Any suggestions

on where to start?” To which we might reply, “Glad you asked.” IORITIES. 5 TOP MUST SEES! PRIORITIES, PR

HAVE A MOMENT WITH A MONUMENTAL GENIUS. Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture – LAKELAND

Visit Florida Southern College and see what our American architectural master did with a few million pounds of crushed coquina shells. The largest collection of Wright’s work in one beautifully situated location (12 strikingly unique buildings in all!). Take a guided tour or explore it on your own.

IT’S OFFICIAL. YOUR CAGE DOOR IS NOW OPEN. Safari WildernessRanch – LAKELAND

If two words ever went together, they are “vacation” and “freedom.” You’ll find a spacious and exotic combination of both at this Central Florida wild animal experience. Does a zebra have sweet or sour breath? How soft is an Eland’s nose? Is a camel ride smooth or bumpy? (humpy?). No crowds, no lines. Just you, your family and this unique animal wonderland waiting to be discovered.

YOU’RE stopped at one of our traffic lights.

You see a dripping wet bass boat in front of you. On your left, a carload of college students with a trail-battered mountain bike and carbon-frame road bike strapped to the roof. On your right, an SUV with a Pebble Beach window sticker trailering two golf carts (all with out-of-state license plates).

You get the point. Where there is gear, there is adventure.

We could be humble by saying you’ll find lots of stuff to do outside in Central Florida. Or we can be accurate by saying Central Florida is a 365-day-a-year mecca for outdoor enthusiasts everywhere.

Either way, your light just turned green.

LET OUR GREAT OUTDOORS BE YOUR PLAYGROUND.

INSIDER TIP:

Need outdoor gear, advice and intel on local waters? See the folks at Andy Thornal Company in Winter Haven. www.andythornal.com

But that only skims the surface. Go ahead. Plunge into the details.

AUTO-FOCUS your mind’s eye on this panoramic stage.

Hundreds of white pelicans soaring through a deep blue

Central Florida sky. A bright pink roseate spoonbill sawing

in the muck for a snack. A 12-foot alligator exploding onto

the bank and slithering back into the tea-stained water

with a gigantic bass in its jaws. A grove of sprawling

live oak trees forming a moss-draped tunnel,

guiding you to a place you’ve never been before.

Birding, trekking, exploring, seeing,

witnessing, breathing – escaping.

They’re all a part of the Central Florida picture.

GATOR FACTS

Alligators are an important part of Florida’s heritage. A good understanding of these fascinating creatures will ensure that you can observe these reptiles while preserving their vital role in Florida’s ecology.

See a gator in his natural habitat! Take an airboat tour in the Lake Wales area, on Lake Hamilton or observe them from the shore of LakeHancock at Circle B Bar Reserve.

Despite their fearsome appearance, alligators are generally wary of people

Male alligators can grow up to 14 feet long

Alligators breed in early spring, and babies break out of their shells in August - September.

Gators’ diets include fish, turtles, birds and small mammals

Alligators are most active between dusk and dawn

Feeding alligators is illegal (and dangerous too)

INSIDER TIP:

While hiking in Lake Kissimmee State Park, there’s a good chance you’ll spot one of more than 50 species of endangered, threatened or rare animals along the 13 miles of trails.
