ITINERARy... Day 1 Havana Swinging to the beat of the rumba,

Havana is unlike any other capital in the world. Wander through

crumbling boulevards and plazas to revel in the charm of this

vibrant city. Be sure to try a Coppelia icecream - the lines are worth

it - and don’t miss a stroll along the Malecon at sunset. Days 2-4

Baracoa Board a flight bound for Baracoa. Climb over the old

forts - built to withstand pirate raids - or explore the mountains

and black-sand beaches. In town, seek out the Torcedores to

see cigar rolling in action. Pick up some basic Spanish during

an informal Spanish lesson. These newfound language skills are

sure to come in handy during a fun salsa lesson the following

day. Days 5-6 Santiago de Cuba This historical city played a

pivotal role in the Cuban Revolution - but it is better known for its

smooth tunes. Set between the indomitable Sierra Maestra and

the azure Caribbean, this city’s historical centre retains a time-worn

air ideal for photographers. After a day of sightseeing, stay out

all night dancing to the Latin rhythms of Cuba’s sexy salsa in the

city that gave birth to the dance. During the day explore the city’s

wealth of museums and admire its colonial architecture. Days 7-8

Camaguey There is a lot of fun to be had getting lost among the

winding streets of Camaguey. Find a cafe for a drink and enjoy the

city views, or visit the busy farmers’ market. Days 9-11 Trinidad

Home to Spanish-style churches and great museums, Trinidad is

also the gateway to the Valle de los Ingenios, where sugar cane

plantations pan out across the land. Playa Ancon is close by and

there’s plenty of time to relax on its long, unspoiled beaches.

Make an optional visit to a folklore dance and music show to see

mambo, cha-cha-cha and rumba intertwined with Afro-Cuban

religious ceremonies. Day 12 Cienfuegos Journey to Cienfuegos,

known as the ‘Pearl of the South’. Stop by the Palacio del Valle, the

architectural pride of Cienfuegos, and soak up the relaxed vibe of

this town. Days 13-15 Havana Call into the Monumento Ernesto

Che Guevara to learn about this much-loved revolutionary’s

extraordinary life before returning to Havana. Back in the capital,

enjoy an orientation walk around historic Habana Veija (Old

Havana) before bidding adios.

Classic Cuba

Beautiful Cuba

ITINERARy... Day 1 Havana Get acquainted with Cuba’s

capital by taking a walk through the crumbling splendour of

World Heritage-listed Habana Vieja (Old Havana), or by heading

to the Malecon to watch waves break dramatically against the

seawall. Alternatively, find a cafe, kick back with a Cuba libre and

soak up the procession of classic cars, the whiff of fragrant cigars

and the constant sound of salsa that effortlessly melds in this

captivating and incredibly unique city. Days 2-4 Vinales Discover

Habana Vieja’s best-kept secrets. Stop in Soroa to explore the

orchid garden, or hike up a rugged mountain path to admire the

sweeping view from the lookout. Continue on to the chilled-out

village of Vinales, travelling through limestone ‘pincushion’ hills.

Take long walks overlooking sprawling tobacco fields and meet

locals over a nip of the region’s famous ron (rum). For a cultural fix,

check out the museum near the central plaza. Days 5-6 Maria

La Gorda Travel to Cuba’s westernmost tip, to beautiful Maria La

Gorda, a beachside haven that buzzes with wild pirate legends

and rumours of buried treasure. Nearby, the calm, clear waters

of the Caribbean beckon. Strut your stuff in an informal salsa

lesson then relax on the white sands, scuba dive, hike through the

dense forests, or admire the picturesque surrounds in this remote

paradise. Days 7-8 Havana Spend a couple of days back in the

gritty, charming capital. Take time to discover the architecture,

uncover Cuba’s fascinating history at the Museo de la Revolucion or

head to Habana Vieja’s bars for a celebratory mojito.

ITINERARy... Day 1 Havana The best way to see Havana’s

colonial buildings, elegant plazas, vintage cars and cigar-smoking

musicians is by foot. Visit the Plaza de la Revolucion and pass giant

monuments to legends Che Guevara and Jose Marti. The striking

baroque facade of the Catedral de San Cristobal de la Habana is

a must-see. Days 2-3 Soroa/Vinales Tour the orchid gardens

of Soroa en route to Vinales. One of Cuba’s most attractive areas,

the fertile valleys and distinctive limestone ‘pincushion’ hills

surrounding Vinales are well worth exploring on a walking tour.

Get into the groove with an introductory group salsa lesson and

be welcomed on a homestay with a friendly local family. Days 4-5

Trinidad Take time to explore Trinidad’s Spanish-style churches

then head to Playa Ancon, a white, sandy beach where many hours

slip lazily by. Alternatively, why not snorkel over Cuba’s colourful

underwater world or hire a bike for a relaxing pedal around town?

Enjoy an Afro-Cuban folklore dance and music show, then practise

newly learned salsa moves at one of Trinidad’s famous music

venues. Day 6 Cienfuegos Journey to the port city Cuban’s call La

Perla del Sur (‘The Pearl of the South’). Stop by the Palacio del Valle,

the architectural pride of Cienfuegos. For a local pick-me-up why

not try a Cuban coffee? It’s served strong, black and super-sweet.

Days 7-8 Havana Stop in at Santa Clara to visit the Mausoleo

Che Guevara and learn about the legend and life of this famous

revolutionary. Back in Havana, there is time for a final night of

revelry. Anyone for some salsa?

ITINERARy... Day 1 San Jose Get a feel for the city on a

sightseeing walk through the streets. Days 2-3 La Fortuna/

Arenal Volcano National Park Head to La Fortuna and

the beautiful surrounds of Lake Arenal and explore the green

countryside. Big winds sweeping in from the Caribbean make the

lake a windsurfer’s delight. Why not visit La Fortuna Waterfall, take a

canopy tour in the forest or join a trip to the active Arenal Volcano.

Days 4-5 Monteverde Ecologists have suggested that the cloud

forests of Monteverde were actually two different ecosystems,

straddling each side of the Continental Divide. As a result, the

area boasts several unique species of flora and fauna. Explore the

emerald - green cloud forest by foot to admire the wide array of

wildlife and learn about how this incredible ecological curiosity

came to be. Days 6-7 Manuel Antonio National Park Discover

the white-sand beaches, tropical vegetation and turquoise waters

of Manuel Antonio National Park. Hike along the trails to spot some

of the abundant wildlife - be on the lookout for armadillos, sloths

and colourful birds. Impossible to resist, the warm waters offer

great swimming, kayaking or surfing. While Manuel Antonio itself

is a laidback kind of town, its nightlife is famously fiery - so kick up

those heels and get a taste for Costa Rican revelry. Days 8-9 San

Jose Return to the capital to meander through the stalls of the

Mercado Central, take a look at the collection of shimmering art at

the Museo de Oro Precolombino y Numismatica or catch a show at

the city’s pride and joy - the Teatro Nacional.

the border into Panama. Enjoy the slow pace of laidback Bocas

del Toro - a haven that has resisted over-development to retain its

small-town charm. This tropical jungle region is gifted with coral

islands and beautiful beaches, so use free time to snorkel or swim

clear, blue waters. Divers will appreciate the amazing underwater
