L’Acquario di Genova, uno dei più ricchi in Europaper specie animali ospitate, si allunga dalla

medievale Ripa Maris verso il porto turistico dellacittà, collegando la suggestiva Isola delle chiattealla terraferma. In testa al molo, parte integrantedel percorso di visita all’Acquario, la tolda della

Grande Nave Blu regala una vedutaparticolarmente suggestiva, soprattutto al

tramonto, della città affacciata sul mare. La struttura in vetro e acciaio della Biosfera riflette,

poco lontano, cielo e mare mentre mobili velebianche riparano dal sole l’ambiente tropicale

Acquario di Genova has one of Europe’s most varied collections of animal species. It extends out

from the Medieval Ripa Maris to the marina, connecting the evocative Isola delle Chiatte to dry land. At the seaward

tip of the pier, the deck of the Grande Nave Blu, which formsan integral part of the aquarium itinerary, offers a particularly

inspiring view of the city, expecially at sunset. Nearby, thesteel and glass structure of the Biosfera reflects the sky and

sea, while inside mobile white sails shelter the tropicalenvironment from the sun. Not far away, the Bigo panoramiclift offers visitors a stunning aerial view of Genoa and its port

L’Acquario di Cattolica è il più grande del MareAdriatico e in un “giro del mondo” sotto la

superficie dell’acqua racconta come la vita sulpianeta si sia sviluppata proprio grazie a questo

prezioso elemento. In Sardegna, l’Acquario di CalaGonone, inaugurato nel 2010, è una struttura di

nuova concezione perfettamente inserita nel contesto naturale e paesaggistico del Golfo di Orosei, tra i più suggestivi del Mediterraneo.

Near the Darsena – where the Nazario Sauro submarine(S518) is moored and can be visited – is the

Galata Museo del Mare, Italy’s largest exhibition devoted to the centuries-old relationship between man and the sea.

Acquario di Livorno occupies two floors in a striking position on the seafront promenade

that looks out over the Whale Sanctuary. Acquario di Cattolica, the largest on the Adriatic coast,

presents an undersea “journey around the world” that explainshow life developed on earth in this fundamental element.Acquario di Cala Gonone in Sardinia, which was officially

opened in 2010, is a new concept structure that is perfectlyintegrated with the natural context and landscape

Progettato da Renzo Piano in occasione dellecelebrazioni Colombiane del ‘92, è oggi composto

da 70 vasche e ospita centinaia di specie: dai lamantini – le mitiche sirene – ai pinguini, agli amatissimi delfini; dagli squali – i grandi

predatori del mare – alle fragili trasparenze dellemeduse, alle simpatiche foche, ai coloratissimi

pesci tropicali, alle razze che è possibile accarezzare.Perfettamente inserito nell’antico porto della

gloriosa repubblica marinara finalmente riaffacciataal suo mare, l’Acquario è visitato ogni anno

da 1,2 milioni di turisti ed è una delle strutture più importanti nel recente “riposizionamento”

di Genova come città d’arte e polo di riferimentodello svago qualitativo, culturale e scientifico.

Il continuo rinnovamento del percorso di visita – giàfinanziato un prolungamento di 90 metri della

struttura espositiva – come pure l’ascolto del cliente che induce nuovi prodotti e la convinta

of species, from manatees – themermaids of myth – to penguins and

much-loved dolphins, and fromsharks – the great hunters of the sea

– to the transparent fragility of jellyfish, friendly seals, brightly coloured

tropical fish and rays that visitors can touch. In its splendidlocation in Genoa’s old port area, which has finally been

reunited with the city, the aquarium is visited each year by1.2 million tourists and is one of the most importantattractions contributing to the recent “repositioning”

of Genoa as a city of art and a centre for cultural and scientific education and entertainment.

An ever-changing itinerary (a 90-meter extension of the exhibition structure has already been financed),

an ability to listen to visitors and their suggestions for new products and a commitment to education and

the environment are the main drivers of more than twentyyears’ success reported by Acquario di Genova,

Situated in the Darsena or old docks, on the site of the oldArsenal where the galleys of the “Superba” were built at the

height of this maritime republic’s wealth and power, the GalataMuseo del Mare is a magical place where you can listen to the stories that have established such a close relationship

between man and the sea. After visiting the Galata Museo delMare and its antique “globes”, navigational instruments,wonderful models of sailing ships, a perfect replica of a

33 meter galley from the seventeenth century, and a full scalereproduction of the main deck of an eighteenth century brig,

you seem to leave the building with your skin damp fromocean spray! And after “piloting” your ship as it enters the port

of New York or saving the Titanic (with the help of asophisticated simulator), your journey continues in the shoes

of an Italian emigrant to “La Merica”. Setting off from the lanesthat weave a web behind the port of Genoa, tightly clutching

your passport and ticket, you can climb aboard the Città diTorino steamer and land at Ellis Island, visit the Boca in

Buenos Aires or explore the Brazilian rain forest. But themuseum does not only look to the past, with a new section

featuring one of the boats used by illegal immigrants to sail toLampedusa. Your journey continues underwater with a visit to

Italy’s first floating museum, the Nazario Sauro submarine(S518) moored outside. Visiting these

In Darsena, nell’antico Arsenale dove nel “Secolodei Genovesi” si costruivano le galee della ricca e potente “Superba”, il Galata Museo del Mare

è luogo magico dove si ascoltano storie che da sempre legano l’uomo al mare. Antichi “globi”,

preziosi strumenti di navigazione, splendidi modellidi velieri, una secentesca galea di 33 metri

perfettamente ricostruita, il ponte di coperta inscala reale di un brigantino ottocentesco: la visita al

Galata sembra lasciare sulla pelle il salino deglioceani! E dopo aver “governato” per entrare nel

porto di New York o per salvare il Titanic (grazie aun sofisticato simulatore) il viaggio prosegue nei

panni di emigranti italiani verso “La Merica”: dai vicoli del porto di Genova, ultimo rifugio prima

di partire, muniti di passaporto e biglietto diviaggio, si sale a bordo del piroscafo Città di Torino

Nasce nel ’97 con l’obiettivo di avvicinare bambinie ragazzi alla scienza e alla tecnologia

attraverso il gioco. La visita inizia tra esperimentiscientifici semplici ma rigorosi, attraversa

gigantesche bolle di sapone, un piccolo cantiereedile completo di ponteggi, gru e mattoni, la stanza

dell’energia, una parete per il climbing sino alle“magie” della TV, di Internet, del futuro che incalza.

BIGO & BIOSFERA

Il Bigo – una gru per navi da carico – è affermatosimbolo dell’antico porto genovese riconquistato

alla città nel 1992 in occasione delle Colombiane.Il suo braccio più alto solleva a 40 metri di quota

una cabina rotante che di Genova offre prospettiveindimenticabili. Da quell’altezza si ammirano

il centro storico più grande d’Europa, i palazzi dal XV al XVII secolo, la settecentescacinta dei forti sulle alture, la città ottocentesca

e quella moderna dove svetta la torre del teatroCarlo Felice, progetto di Aldo Rossi.

The Bigo – a crane used to load and unload cargo ships –symbolises the old port in Genoa which was restored

to the city in 1992 for the Christopher Columbus celebrations.It’s tallest jib lifts a rotating cabin 40 meters into the air,

offering visitors an unforgettable view of the city. From the top you can admire Europe’s most extensive

historical centre, the city’s XV and XVII palaces, the eighteenth century defensive walls and forts

on the surrounding hills, the nineteenth century city and the modern regional capital with the Carlo Felice opera

house tower designed by Aldo Rossi.

Guardando verso il mare, l’acciaio e il vetro della Biosfera racchiudono un insieme complesso

di organismi tropicali, animali e vegetali: un piccolo ma ricchissimo orto botanico dove

tamarindo e cannella si muovono liberamenteuccelli, testuggini, pesci e insetti a rappresentare

la bellezza fragile delle foreste equatoriali.

In this small but packed botanical garden, big tree ferns,banana trees, rubber trees, coffee bushes and vanilla,

richiamano una flotta di navi. Due ore di emozioni“spiando” le movenze lente degli squali, la buffagoffaggine dei pinguini sulla terraferma e la loro

sorprendente velocità una volta in mare, i simpaticimusi delle lontre e le tartarughe, rettili antichissimi.

Tremila esemplari per 400 specie che popolano 100vasche (e le scoperte più sorprendenti sono forse in

quelle più piccole che ricreano con cura habitatdiversi, ricchi di vita e mistero!). Un giro del mondo

sotto la superficie dell’acqua per ricordare che la vitadel nostro Pianeta è nata proprio in questo elemento:

dal Mediterraneo, agli Oceani (Atlantico, Pacifico,Indiano) per arrivare alla splendida scogliera corallina

popolata da organismi coloratissimi. Una scopertache si allarga a tutta la natura del pianeta, dai corsi

d’acqua, agli animali esotici anche terrestri fino a unpercorso interattivo per conoscere i suoni con cui

comunicano le creature acquatiche. L’acquario è unluogo dove regna la bellezza ma anche un ambienteper osservare un mondo prezioso per la vita di tutti.

Acquario di Cattolica, the largest on the Adriatic coast, has itshome in historical buildings from the 1930s that are

reminiscent of a fleet of ships. It offers visitors an emotion-filledtwo hours “spying” on the slow movements of the sharks, the

comical clumsiness of the penguins on dry land and theirsurprising speed in the water, cheeky-faced otters, turtles and

ancient reptiles. Three thousand specimens and 400 hundredspecies in 100 tanks (funnily enough, some of the most

surprising discoveries are perhaps to be found in the smallesttanks, which meticulously recreate different habitats teeming

with life and mystery). An underwater journey around theworld to remind ourselves that life on earth was born in this

very element: the Mediterranean, the oceans (Atlantic,Pacific, Indian) and the wonderful coral reefs inhabited by

brightly coloured creatures. Our voyage of discovery extendsacross the entire planet, from waterways and exotic sea andland animals, right through to an interactive itinerary to get to
