COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This series of lectures and discussions concentrates on developing habits of personal success. Emphasis is

placed on social soft skills, interpersonal communications, critical thinking, and ethical decision making.

Students who apply themselves should learn these job skills or knowledge.

TEXTBOOK(S): Job Savvy: How to Be a Success at Work. Ludden, JIST Publishing. 2008

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Understand the importance of employability skills;

2. Understand the importance of social soft skills and identify and assess their own skill sets;

3. Recognize, accept, and be able to work successfully in culturally diverse environments;

4. Understand and be capable of effective interpersonal communication;

5. Be able to use prescribed decision making techniques and understand the need for critical

thinking;

6. Apply effective life skills, time management and self-discipline.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:

This course may be taught all or in part in an asynchronous manner. Instruction may include chapter

readings, online lessons, and/or audio-visual presentations. Learning activities and assessment will include

a combination of group discussions, individual and/or group projects, role plays, writing assignments, and

exams. Many assignments may also require library and internet research.

Student progress will be determined by the evaluation of presentations, quizzes, and exams. Classroom

participation measures the amount of active involvement a student has in the class in discussions, activities,

role-plays, questions, journal entries and responses in a timely submission of all work and assignments.

LATE-WORK POLICY

All coursework must be completed and submitted by the deadline established by the instructor. No

coursework will be accepted past the deadline unless the instructor is notified before the deadline and

approves the special circumstances. The instructor can request documentation of the special circumstances.

If the instructor does not approve the submission of coursework after the deadline, the grade for the

coursework will be zero (0). The instructor‟s decision is final and cannot be appealed.

STUDENT EVALUATION OF THE INSTRUCTOR:

Students will evaluate the instructor at least once during the term using the Remington College Online

Student Survey of Instructor. Responses to the survey are anonymous and will be used for professional

development and improvements to the course.

Withdrawal From a Course

Students who withdraw (voluntarily or involuntarily) from a course after the drop/add period will be

assigned the following grade(s):

• A “W” if before 50% of grading period is completed.

• A “W” if passing at any point in the grading period.

• An “F” if failing after 50% of grading period.

• For externship courses only, an “F” if the externship is not successfully completed.

LATE-WORK POLICY

All coursework must be completed and submitted by the deadline established by the instructor. No

coursework will be accepted past the deadline unless the instructor is notified before the deadline and

approves the special circumstances. The instructor can request documentation of the special circumstances.

If the instructor does not approve the submission of coursework after the deadline, the grade for the

coursework will be zero (0).
