The Cav tron BOBCAT Pro U trason c Sca er meets the

EMC standards o EN 0 01-1-2:2001 and FCC Part 18

The U trason c Sca er operates by convert ng ord nary AC

system. The system ncorporates a c osed oop or automat ctun ng (operat ng requency s ad usted to be at resonance or

each nsert). The Cav tron BOBCAT Pro U trason c Sca er

produces 25,000 m croscop ca y sma stro es per second

at the nsert’s wor ng t p. Th s comb ned w th acoust c

effects of the coolant water, produces a synergistic action

that tera y "powers away" the heav est ca cu us depos ts

3.1 Precaut ons or A Systems

rad ator or other heat source. Excess ve heat may

damage the u trason c sca er’s e ectron cs. P ace the

and beneath t. Do not cover vents on rear pane .

  • The u trason c sca er s portab e, but must be hand ed

w th care when mov ng.

  • Equ pment ush ng and denta water supp y system

ma ntenance are strong y recommended. See Sect on 9:

System Care.

  • Never operate the ultrasonic scaler without water

ow ng through the handp ece.

Cav tron BOBCAT Pro U trason c Sca er.

.1 Da y Ma ntenance

formation in the water path of your Cavitron BOBCAT Pro

u trason c nsert, and sca ng per ormance.

Start-Up Procedures at the beginning of the day:

1. Open the manua shut-o va ve on the denta o ce

water supp y system.

2. Turn the System ON us ng the ON/OFF contro sw tch.

(See ustrat on on page 5). Ver y the Power Ind cator

L ght s t.

3. Set the Power Contro nob to the m n mum sett ng.

4. Set the Water Contro nob to max mum.

5. Ho d the Handp ece (w thout an nsert nsta ed) upr ght

over a s n or dra n. Act vate the Foot Contro and ush

the water ne or a east 2 m nutes.

. P ace a ster zed nsert nto the Handp ece and set theWater Contro nob and Power Contro nob to your

pre erred operat ng pos t on.

Between Patients:

1. Remove u trason c nsert used, c ean and ster ze.

  4. Use a Heyco No. 29 Stra n Re e Too to extract the

  stra n re e and o d Foot Contro cab e rom the

Bac Pane . Remove the stra n re e or reuse on the

rep acement Foot Contro cab e.

  5. Insert the rep acement Foot Contro cab e through the

  ho e n the chass s.

  . Gu de the Foot Contro cab e under the trans ormer

ower mount ng bo ts, up beh nd the 24 VAC eads

  and between the P ast c Sh e d and trans ormer.

  7. Tw st the b ac and red Foot Contro w res together,2-3 turns. Attach the long Black Wire to the FS1 PC 

board term na and the Red w re to the FS2 term na .

  8. Attach the shorter Ground Sh e d w re term na to the

  Fast-On tab. aution:  Route the gray Foot Contro

  cab e sh e d and ground w re be ow the meta chass s

potent ometer.

  13. Fasten the chass s to the cab net hous ng w th two

  #8-32 X 3/8" button head cap screws us ng a 3/32"

CHASSIS INSTALLATION WITH ALIGNMENT

TOOL:

with the two Hi-Lo screws and the two button head cap

  CHASSIS INSTALLATION WITHOUT ALIGNMENT

TOOL: S de the chass s nto the hous ng. Insta but do not

t ghten the two H -Lo screws above the potent ometer and the

two button head cap screws at the rear edge o the hous ng.

  14. Return the Bac Pane to the Sca er un t.

  cables are not trapped by the Back Panel.

  C. The Bac Pane shou d be u y surrounded by

  the mo ded cab net hous ng.

  15. Fasten the Back Panel to the chassis with the #8-32

  X 3/8" button head cap screws us ng a 3/32"

Hex dr ver.

  1 . Insta the Power and Lavage nobs. The nobs are

  not nterchangeab e. Be sure to turn the Need e Va ve

contro sha t u y c oc w se, by hand, be ore

nsta ng the Lavage Knob. The Power nob po nter

rotat on must match the sca e on the cab net hous ng.

14.4 Han p ece Assem y Rep acement

  1. I poss b e, p ug the water supp y hose nto a

compressed a r source ( 0 ps max.) and operate the

Sca er to d scharge a water n the sca er and

handp ece. Ad ust the Power nob to m n mum (ccw.)

and the Lavage knob to full maximum (ccw.) flow.

and oosen the brass nut on the Lavage Need e

Va ve. Rotate the va ve counter-c oc w se to a oweas er access to the c ear HP water tub ng n the

chass s open ng.

  6. Detach the clear tubing from the barbed fitting.

Remove the o d HP cab e and tub ng.

  7. Insert the c ear water tub ng rom the rep acement

HP into the black tubing. Use smooth long nose

p ers to ocate the tub ng. The tub ng shou d not

be ooped around b ac supp y need e va ve tub ng.

  8. Insert the 3-w re cab e through the open ng above

the water so eno d and p ug the connector to J2.

S de the stra n re e nto the chass s open ng. Use

a p ast c cab e t e and secure the water so eno d

w res and HP cab e to the PC board support.  9. Do NOT cut o the excess c ear tub ng. Instead,

orm 2-3 gradua oops and attach the end o the

tub ng to the need e va ve barbed tt ng.

  Use emery c oth to gr p the tub ng and s de t

comp ete y over the barbed tt ng. Exerc se caut on

to avo d punctur ng the tub ng. Be sure the c ear

tub ng s not p nched by the p ast c barr er and has

ree movement.

  10. Rotate the Needle Valve back to its original position

  by d rect ng the HP barbed tt ng downward and

  t ghten. T ghten to 25 n- bs. Pos t on the excess

handp ece water tub ng n the area beh nd the Need e

va ve by orm ng two oops. Do not t e or tang e the

tub ng. The tub ng must be ree mov ng.

  11. Temporar y s de the Bac Pane aga nst the chass s

  and secure t to the chass s by nsta ng the upper

screw. Connect the water and AC power cord. Power

  up the un t, nsta an nsert n the handp ece, and

chec the sca ng power and water ow.

  12.Fo ow the current y approved test procedure and

ca brate the sca er. Unp ug the power cord and

  water supp y hose.

  13.Remove the Bac Pane , chec or ea s, and re-

nsta the chass s nto the cab net hous ng. Secure

the two cabinet screws above the PowerPotent ometer and the two screws ad acent to the

to the secondary s de o the trans ormer.  3. Us ng a 11/32 nch nut dr ver, remove the two nuts

  ocated at the bottom o the trans ormer. S de out

  the two mach ne screws and remove the trans ormer.

  4. Trans er the two mach ne screws and nuts rom the

  ma unct on ng trans ormer rame to the rep acement

  trans ormer. S de the trans ormer nto pos t on.

Pos t on the rep acement trans ormer w th the pr mary

term na s to the e t (towards the Bac Pane )

and the 24 vo t secondary term na s on the r ght. The

mach ne screws shou d be nserted through the top

two ho es rom the ront (term na s de) o the trans-

ormer. T ghten the Keps nuts to 25 ± 2 n. bs.

  5. Place the transformer between the two mounting tabs

  n the chass s. Insert the two mach ne screws rom

the bac o the trans ormer. Chec or trapped w res

or tub ng. Insta the two Keps nuts and t ghten to

25 ± 2 n. bs.

  . The trans ormer term na ugs are rag e.

Gent y reconnect the secondary term na ugs.

The pr mary term na s shou d be nsta ed on the taps

match ng the Bobcat Pro sca er vo tage spec ed on

  the Bac Pane . The wh te w re must be connected to

  the "0" term na ug.

  w th the two #8 x 1/2" H -Lo Torx screws above the  potent ometer.

  8. Fasten the chass s to the cab net hous ng w th two

#8-32 X 3/8" button head cap screws us ng a 3/32"

opaque shr n tub ng that covers the water tub ng and

  so eno d barbed tt ng. Unp ug the b ue water tub ng

  rom the ma unct on ng so eno d. D scard the shr n

  tub ng and tr m 1/8" o the end o the b ue water

tub ng. Insta a 1

so eno d tt ng. Use a ow-vo ume concentrated heat

  gun to shr n the c ear tub ng. Gradua y heat a

s des o the tub ng. Start rom the center and move

toward the So eno d Va ve tt ng. Th s w ensure

that the tub ng s centered and prevent movement and

shr n age away rom the barb tt ng. Do not me t or

burn the black sleeve or blue tubing during the process.

Route the water tub ng under the p ast c barr er nto the

notch prov ded and beh nd the trans ormer mount ng tabs.

  7. Pos t on the so eno d on the chass s and secure w th

hardware. The so eno d w res shou d be pos t oned

90° to the so eno d tt ngs or stra ght up. I the w res

  are not proper y pos t oned, oosen the so eno d stem

  nut and rotate the co , then re-t ghten.

  8. Re- nsta the trans ormer. T ghten the screws secure y

  and chec the Foot Sw tch w re rout ng.

9. P ug the So eno d W re connector nto J1 on the

U trason c PC board. T e the so eno d w re and

Handp ece cab e to the PC board support.

  10. Insert the b ue water hose and hose nut through the

  ower e t-hand ho e n the Bac pane . Connect the

  hose to the So eno d tt ng and t ghten.

  11. Temporarily fasten the Back Panel to the chassis using  the upper screw. Connect the Bobcat Pro sca er to the

water and power supp y. Inspect the so eno d or

  proper operat on and water ea s. I no ea s are

detected, d sconnect the power cord and unscrew the

  Bac Pane .

  12. S de the chass s nto the mo ded hous ng and secure

  w th the two screws above the potent ometer.

  13. Fasten the chass s to the cab net hous ng w th two

#8-32 X 3/8" button head cap screws us ng a 3/32"

  2. Rotate the Need e Va ve so the b ue water tub ng s

  upward and the c ear tub ng Is ac ng downward.

  3. Push the Need e Va ve bac nto the Chass s and t up

  to remove the Need e va ve. Pu o the c ear

handp ece water tub ng.

  4. Pu o and remove the opaque shr n tub ng that

covers the water tub ng and Need e Va ve barbed

tt ng. Unp ug the b ue water tub ng rom the

ma unct on ng Need e Va ve. D scard the shr n

tub ng and tr m 1/8" o the end o the b ue water

tub ng. Insta a 1

  Needle valve fitting. Use a low-volume concentrated

  heat gun to shr n the c ear tub ng. Gradua y heat a

  s des o the tub ng. Start rom the center and move

toward the Need e Va ve tt ng. Th s w ensure that

the tube s centered and prevent movement and

shr n age away rom the barbed tt ng. Do not me t or

burn the b ac s eeve or b ue tub ng dur ng the

process. Route the water tub ng under the p ast c bar er 

nto the notch prov ded and beh nd the trans ormer

mount ng tabs. Pos t on the excess handp ece water

tub ng n the area beh nd the Need e va ve by orm ngtwo oops. Do not t e or tang e the tub ng. The tub ng

must be ree mov ng.

  . Screw the brass hex nut u y onto the Need e Va ve

  and nsta the oc washer. Ang e the Need e Va ve

assemb y and pos t on t nto the mount ng ho e.

Insta the second oc washer and asten the assemb y

w th a hex nut. Chec Need e Va ve or entat on be ore

t ghten ng the nut.

  7. Temporarily fasten the Back Panel to the chassis using

  1. Fo ow the steps above n Sect on 14.1 or "Cab net

Housing Removal".

  2. Use a T10 Torx dr ver and a 1/4 nch Nut dr ver to

  remove the hardware on the Dar ngton Trans stor.

Use a so der extractor or so der w c to unso der the

  eads o the Dar ngton Trans stor. Remove the

trans stor. The nsu at ng pad must be rep aced when

  nsta ng a rep acement trans stor.

3. Insert the Dar ngton trans stor mount ng screws w th

  at washers through the Dar ngton Mount PC board

  and the Power Trans stor nsu ator. The nsu ator s

ocated between the Dar ngton Mount PC board and

  meta chass s. P ace the trans stor nsu at ng S -pad

  over the screws by match ng up the ho es to the

chass s. A gn and pos t on the rep acement

Dar ngton trans stor over the two mount screws and

  the PC board. Insta the Therm stor, a oc washer

  and secure them with a nut. Position the Thermistorw th ts eads upward. Be ore t ghten ng the hard-

  ware, chec the a gnment o the nsu at ng pad and

  trans stor eads. T ghten the trans stor hardware

us ng a T10 Torx dr ver and a 1/4” nch Nut dr ver to

8 ± 1 n. bs.

  4. So der the trans stor eads to the Dar ngton Mount

PC board. Use approved so der ng techn ques to

create a h gh qua ty connect on. Cut o the excess

trans stor ead ust beyond the so der o nt.

  5. Temporar y s de the Bac Pane aga nst the chass s

  and secure t to the chass s by nsta ng the upper

screw. Connect the water and AC power cord.

Power up the unit, install an insert in the handpiece,

and chec the sca ng power and water ow.

  . Fo ow the current y approved test procedure and

ca brate the sca er. Unp ug the power cord and

ater supp y hose.  7. Remove the Bac Pane and re- nsta the chass s nto

  the cab net hous ng. Secure the two cab net screws

  bove the Power Potent ometer and the two screws

d acent to the c ear bumpers. Inspect the Bac

  ane ground w re and Power Sw tch cab e. Insta

the Bac Pane and secure us ng two 3/32 nch screws.

14.9 U trason c PC Boar Rep acement

  2. Unp ug the 24 VAC connector (J4), Foot Contro

connectors (J5 & J5), Water So eno d connector (J1)

and Handp ece Connector (J2) rom the U trason c

PC board.

  3. Unso der the 3-w re ex b e umper rom the

Dar ngton mount board.

  4. Use a 7/1 nch deep soc et to remove the nut on the

  Power Potent ometer.

  5. Use a T10 Torx dr ver and a 1/4 nch Nut dr ver toremove the hardware on the upper Dar ngton

Trans stor mount ng screw. Remove the Therm stor.

  6. Use a 1/4 inch Nut driver and remove the hardware

  on the Br dge Rect er.

  7. Us ng ong nose p ers, compress the tabs on the PC

board supports and s mu taneous y t the board.

  8. Unso der and trans er the Br dge Rect er to the

  rep acement U trason c PC board or rep ace t. Do

  not so der our eads to the rect er at th s t me.

  App y a th n coat ng o therma grease to the bottom

  o the rect er.

  9. Insta one at washer over the sha t and nsert the

  Power potent ometer through the ront pane . A gn  the PC board over the three (3) c rcu t board supports

  and press down un orm y. Insta the second at

washer and hex nut on the potent ometer. Use a

7/1 " wrench and t ghten the nut to 15-20 n. bs.

  10. Inspect the rect er eads or correct nsta at on and

  secure t w th the removed hardware.

Torque to 8 ± 1 n. bs. So der the our rect er eads.

  11. Insert the eads o the ex b e umper nto the

  Darlington mount board and solder.

13. Re nsta the connectors or the so eno d, handp ece,

oot contro and AC power.

14. Temporar y s de the Bac Pane aga nst the chass sand secure t to the chass s by nsta ng the upper

screw. Connect the water and AC power cord.

Power up the un t, nsta an nsert n the handp ece,

and chec the sca ng power and water ow.

15. Follow the currently approved test procedure and

ca brate the sca er. Unp ug the power cord and

water supp y hose.
