First Reading Ezekiel 33:7-9 If you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way,

I will hold you responsible for his death.

Second Reading Romans 13:8-10Love is the fulfillment of the law.

Acclamation Before the Gospel Alleluia in C Howard Hughes, SM

Collect

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 95 David Clark Isele

1. Come let us sing joyfully to the Lord; let us acclaim the Rock of our salvation.Let us greet him with thanksgiving; let us joyfully sing psalms to him.

2. Come, let us bow down in worship; let us kneel before the Lord who made us. For he is our God, and we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides.

3. O that today you would hear his voice: Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,As in the day of Massah in the desert, where your fathers tempted me;

They tested me though they had seen my works.

God was reconciling the world to himself in Christand entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

Gospel Reading Matthew 18:15-20

If your brother or sister listens to you, you have won them over.

Homily

11:00 AM Renewal of Vows

Archbishop Chaput:

God our Father gives us the grace to persevere in our resolutions. Let us pray to him for these servants of his who are resolved to renew their vows today in the presence of the Church.

All pray for a time in silence.

Lord, in your providence you have called these servants of yours to follow your Son more closely. Mercifully grant that they may persevere to the end along the way of your love on which they have set out with such joy. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Archbishop Chaput:

I now invite all Religious Jubilarians to renew their vows.

Religious Jubilarians:

My God, I renew my vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, hoping, with your assistance, to observe them faithfully all of my life. Amen.

Anthem Christ’s Flock Martin Shaw 11:00 AM Cathedral Basilica Schola 1875 - 1958

In Christ’s own flock let love be surely placed, From Christ’s own flock let concord hate expel: Of Christ’s own flock let love be so embraced, As we in Christ, and Christ in us

may dwell. Christ is the author of all unity, From whence proceedeth all felicity.O sing unto this glitt’ring glorious King. O praises bring from ev’ry living thing:

Let heart and voice like bells of silver ring. Alleluia, Alleluia!

Communion Anthem Ave Verum Wolfgang A. Mozart 11:00 AM Cathedral Basilica Schola 1543 - 1623

English Translation, Sung in Latin

1. God is renowned in Judah; In Israel his name is great.

2. His tent is set in Salem, And his dwelling place in Sion.

3. It was there he broke the flaming arrows, The shield, the sword, the armor.

4. Resplendent are you, more majestic Than the everlasting mountains. The stouthearted, despoiled, slept in death.

5. You uttered your sentence from the heavens; The earth in terror was still

6. When you arose, O God, to judge, To save all the humble of the earth. Dox. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning, is now, And will be forever. Amen.

Year Long Preparationfor the 8th World Meeting of Families

Beginning with 1994, The Year of the Family, the Pontifical Council for the Family has been responsible for organizing the World Meetings of Families in Rome (1994); Rio de Janeiro (1997); Rome (2000); Manila (2003); Valencia (2006); Mexico City (2009); Milan (2012); and now, Philadelphia (2015). Since its inception by Saint John Paul II, the World Meeting of Families has sought to strengthen the sacred bonds of family across the globe.

Iconic Image by Neilson Carlin

Kennett Square artist Neilson Carlin has been commissioned to create the iconic image of the Holy Family for the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015. Neilson completed his undergraduate training at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, receiving a BFA in illustration. He concluded his formal studies privately under figure painter Michael Aviano of New York City.

This sacred painting is a religious work of art meant to encourage both reflection and prayer. The image is a four-by-five-foot oil on canvas of the Holy Family – Mary, Joseph and Jesus as a small child, as well as Mary’s parents, Saints Anna and Joachim. This beautiful work of art will be on display in the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul through the conclusion of the World Meeting of Families, which will be held September 22-27, 2015. Those coming to view the iconic image at the Cathedral Basilica will also be able to light a candle for prayer and support for families around the world.

“What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race.” - John 1:4

“As planets find perfect balance and harmony revolving around the sun, so do we find perfect order when we establish Christ at the center of our families. His light illuminates our hearts and minds, and our interactions with others. Consequently, the piece was designed to focus the viewer on the centrality of Christ in the image, and remind us of the necessity of his role as the focal point of our lives.” - Neilson Carlin

The official prayer for the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 is meant to aid people from around the world in their spiritual preparation for this momentous event. The prayer is accessible on the 2015 World Meeting of Families’ web site in 18 languages including American Sign Language. Distributed to all of the parishes across the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, this prayer is meant to serve as a vehicle of hope and faith for families. The framed prayer will be on display at the Cathedral Basilica along with the Holy Family painting.

The Official Prayer

The Role of CatechesisThe Preparatory Catechesis plays a central role in each World Meeting of Families (WMOF). The WMOF is hosted by different dioceses, and the host diocese for each World Meeting writes a preparatory catechism—a collection of what Catholics believe about human purpose, marriage, and the family. The catechesis, like the World Meeting, is for people of all ages at all stages of life.

For more information, visit www.worldmeeting2015.org

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has called upon a gifted group of speakers who are well-versed in the Church’s teachings on marriage and the family to serve as catechists on behalf of the World Meeting of Families. In order to help everyone across the Archdiocese prepare for the World Meeting, these presenters will visit the parishes to spread the message of the Preparatory Catechesis and to share information about the World Meeting of Families event itself. The presentation entitled “Introduction to the World Meeting of Families Catechism” will be open to the general public, and all are invited to attend a session. Through the generous service of these volunteer catechists, our communities will be roused to enthusiasm and energy for this great moment of grace for the Archdiocese.
