    CBYCEILING TELESCOPING HIDEAWAY (CBY) 200 CFM TO 1200 CFMThe Ceiling Telescoping Hideaway (CBY) fan coil unit is mounted fully-recessed for ceiling-recessed applications. The CBYs telescoping frame with hinged panel adapts to any ceiling type and ensures exact alignment of the panel with the ceiling. The hinged-bottom panel provides easy access to all internal components. Standard CBY units are provided with a galvanized nish on the cabinet and powder-coat paint nish on the bottom- access panel.

    CHYCEILING HIDEAWAY (CHY) 200 CFM TO 1200 CFMThe Ceiling Hideaway (CHY) fan coil unit is designed specically to meet the many varied requirements for a ceiling hideaway installation. The low-silhouette styling of the CHY makes this unit ideally suited for drop-ceiling and over-closet applications. Standard CHY units are provided with a galvanized nish.

    CPYCEILING HIDEAWAY WITH PLENUM (CPY) 200 CFM TO 1200 CFMThe Ceiling Hideaway with Plenum (CPY) fan coil unit provides the same basic features of the CHY plus a return air plenum for above-ceiling mounting in closets, hallways or bathroom areas. The CPY design enables the unit to be adapted to installations requiring return air ducts or to be used as a return- air plenum with a unit-mounted lter and lter-rack assembly. CPY units are shipped from the factory ready for installation with the plenum section in place. No eld fabrication is required. CPY units are designed with interchangeable panels so that the unit may be modied on site to accommodate a rear or bottom return. Standard CPY units are provided with a galvanized nish.

The BHY unit is furnished with larger diameter wheels to achieve higher static pressures required for ductwork applications. Standard BHY units are provided with a galvanized nish.

    BPYHIGH STATIC HIDEAWAY WITH PLENUM (BPY) 400 CFM TO 1000 CFMThe High Static Hideaway with Plenum (BPY) fan coil unit is designed for installations requiring a return-air plenum with a unit-mounted lter and lter-rack assembly. The BPY plenum is constructed of galvanized steel and lined with glass-ber insulation. With the CXB, valuable oor space is not required, and its slim, attractively-styled cabinet blends with all types of decor. Since there is no requirement for duct work or structure modications, the CXB is ideal for retrot applications. Standard CXB units are provided with a powder-coat paint nish.

The UL listing signies that IECs fan coil units have been examined by UL and comply with the organizations applicable standards. ULs re-examination service includes periodic visits by UL inspectors to IECs factory to ensure continued compliance for all listed products.

    C-UL US LISTING

    IECs Horizontal Series units are listed by Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC). The C-UL US listing signies that IECs fan coil units have been examined by both UL and CSA and are in compliance with both the U.S. and Canadian organizations applicable standards.

    This catalog provides quick-selection tables for CHY, CPY, CBY, CXB, BHY and BPY models. Quick selection tables are based on nominal CFM. Correction factors are provided for other operating conditions as explained in the following quick selection example.

    For applications outside the range provided in this catalog, please consult your local representative. Customized computer selections can be provided upon request.

    QUICK SELECTION

    EXAMPLE

    To rate the performance at sea level for a CHY-04 unit with three-row coil at 80/67 EAT, 45 EWT and 2 GPM water ow at high speed fan with 0.15 inches ESP: (1) Select the 80/67 EAT from the Base Cooling Capacities table on page 8.

    (2) Locate the appropriate table for size 04 with three-row coil and 2 GPM.

    Record the tabulated base performance.

    TCb = 10.5 MBH SCb = 8.3 MBH

    (3) Select the actual CFM from the Air Delivery table on page 12.

    Record actual CFM for CHY-04 with three-row coil with high speed and 0.15 ESP.

    CFM Actual = 415

    (4) Divide CFM Actual by CFM Nominal to determine CFM Ratio.

    CFM Ratio = 415/400 = 1.0375

    (5) Select the CFM correction factors, Ct and Cs, from the Air Flow Correction Factors table on page 13.

    Ct = 1.03 Cs = 1.03

    (6) Select the elevation correction factors, Et and Es, from the Elevation Correction Factors table on page 13.

    Et = 1.00 Es = 1.00

    (7) Calculate actual performance.

    TC = TCb x Ct x Et = 10.5 x 1.03 x 1.00 = 10.8 MBH SC = SCb x Cs x Es = 8.3 x 1.03 x 1.00 = 8.5 MBH

    (8) Calculate water pressure drop (or refer to the Water Presure Drop for Cv Factor and Water Flow Rate table on page 15). From the Cv Factor by Unit Size table on page 14, nd the Cv value for the unit size 04 with three rows.

    Cv = 0.9 P = [GPM/(0.658 x Cv)]2 = [2.0/(0.658 x .9)]2

    = 11.4 feet of H2O

    HYDRONIC COIL PRESSURE DROP

    All IEC hydronic coils have a coefcient of velocity (Cv) resistance factor assigned to assist in a more accurate determination of water pressure drop (see Cv Factor by Coil and Unit Size table below).

    CALCULATING PRESSURE DROP

    The Cv factor is equal to the ow rate of water in GPM through a piping component when the pressure drop through the component is 1.0 pounds per square inch (psi), or 2.31 feet of H

    2O.

    P (feet of H2O) = P (PSI) x 2.31

    Use the Cv factor from the Cv Factor by Coil and Unit Size table below to determine the water coil pressure drop.

    Coil pressure drop (feet of H2O):

    P = (GPM2/Cv2) x 2.31or P = [GPM/(0.658 x Cv)]2

    or Refer to the Water Pressure Drop for Cv Factor and Water Flow Rate table on page 15.

    EXAMPLE

    Model CPY 06 BYY requires 3.0 GPM water ow. Determine the water coil pressure drop as follows.

    Unit size = 06, Coil type = B, GPM = 3.0Cv from Cv Factor by Coil and Unit Size table below = 2.0

    P = (3.02/2.02) x 2.31 = 5.2 feet of H

    Electric heaters are available on IEC Horizontal Series fan coil units for the following applications.

    TOTAL ELECTRIC HEAT

    Total electric heat eliminates the requirement for a boiler. Heating and/or cooling may be available on an individual basis throughout the year. Two-pipe chilled water is used for cooling; and the electric heater is used for heating. Individual room controls can be supplied for either manual or automatic changeover.

    AUXILIARY ELECTRIC HEAT

    Auxiliary electric heat is ideal for tempering room air between seasons and during the cooling season when chilled water is being circulated. Individual room controls are supplied to provide electric heat only when chilled water is being circulated. During regular heating season, heating is provided by hot water being circulated in the system.

    CONSTRUCTION

    The heater coils of high-grade resistance wire are supported by ceramic insulators on plated steel brackets. These heat elements are suspended directly in front of the fan outlet between the blower and the coil. High limit thermal cutouts protect the heater in the event of air failure. There are many special applications and control sequences for electric heat. For special applications, please consult the factory.

    MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS

    PERFORMANCE DATA (ALL MODELS)

    CAPACITIESUnit capacities are certied in compliance with Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) Industry Standard 440-98.

    SAFETYUnits are listed with Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) Standard UL 1995 and with Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standard C22.2 No. 236.

    BASIC UNIT

    The basic unit (models CH and BH) is fabricated of galvanized steel. Horizontal models CP and BP are provided with galvanized-steel plenums for lter mounting and return-duct attachment. One-half inch, glass-ber, thermal insulation is provided, where applicable. Provision for hanging the unit using ceiling hanger rods is provided by slots and/or holes in the top of the housing. A one-inch, discharge-duct collar is furnished. The motor-blower assembly is designed to facilitate servicing.

    The condensate drain pan is lined with closed-cell, re-retardant, foam insulation. Water does not contact the metal pan, minimizing the possibility of corrosion. All Horizontal units (models CH, BH, CP, BP, CB and CX) are available with an optional drip lip at the coil-header end to provide positive control of condensate from control valve components.

    CABINETS

    Horizontal cabinet models CX and CB are constructed of galvanized-steel panels, thermally insulated and provided standard with a powder-coat paint nish. Optional color selections are available. Mounting holes are provided. Horizontal models CX and CB have a hinged bottom panel for access to coil, valve-package, control-package, motor-blower and electric-heater sections. Stamped supply and return grilles are standard. Double-deection, supply grilles are optional.

    COILS

    Coils are constructed with one-half inch copper tubes with aluminum ns mechanically bonded to the tubes. All coils are leak tested with air under water and are suitable for design working pressures of 250 psig at 200F. A variety of coil selections is available. The standard coil provides adequate capacity for most installations with an eight-to-ten degree water-temperature rise design. A high capacity coil is offered for those installations requiring the higher latent heat capacities or those designed for higher water temperature rises. Also offered is a four-pipe coil consisting of standard- or high-capacity cooling with one or two rows of heating surfaces contained in a single n bank.

    FANS

    The fans are centrifugal, forward-curved, double-width wheels. Blower housings are galvanized steel with special-rolled perimeter seams to provide added rigidity.

    MOTORS

    All motors are UL-listed, resilient-mounted, three-speed, permanent-split-capacitor (PSC) type with thermal-overload protection. Motor bearings are of the permanently-lubricated sleeve type. Positive speed reduction is assured through matching of motor torque to blower loading.
