The Type G-60 is a high capacity all purpose regulator designed to operate within close operating limits.
Features• Sizes: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 11/4", and11/2" with threaded connections.
• Optional Stainless Steel Internal Trim:The Type G-60 can be furnished withstainless steel internal trim suitable for regulating steam, air, water, oil,gases, chemicals, and other fluids. Trim consists of the pusher post button,pusher post, guide bushing, pistonorifice, nozzle and bottom cap. It is an excellent choice for any pressurereducing valve application...butparticularly possessing the qualitiesnecessary for those tough jobs wherehigh capacity and the need for closeregulation rule out all but the bestregulators.
• Adjusting Screw: A hex head adjustingscrew and hex lock nut are standard. An optional T-bar is available on specialorder.
• Internal Design Features:1. The valve piston is fully balancedagainst inlet and outlet pressures,except for the Steam valves. Thisprovides close control despite wideinlet pressure variations.
2. A flat seat ring rather than a beveledseat is employed for better shut-off,higher capacity, and easiermaintenance.
3. The internal parts are well guided toassure proper seating.
4. The Type G-60 has a large diaphragmand long pressure spring which, incombination, do two things – (1)provide for a wide range ofadjustment and (2) give exceptionalsensitivity of control.
ApplicationType G-60 regulators are designed for use with steam, water, air, oil, gases,chemicals or other fluids. Theseregulators are available with either iron, bronze, carbon steel, or stainlesssteel bodies and feature a variety ofinternal materials for a wide range ofapplications. Available in 1/4" through11/2" sizes with threaded connections.These valves are designed for a variety of inlet pressure ranges and operatingtemperatures depending on constructionmaterials used. Refer to the Spring RangeTable or the Pressure and TemperatureRatings Table under Specifications foradditional information.
The Type G-60 regulator is suitable for use in dryers, steam atomized oilburners, plastic molding, cookers,degreasers and sterilizers. Also availablefor cryogenic service (Page 3).
DescriptionThe Type G-60 is a high capacity allpurpose pressure reducing andregulating valve designed to reduce highinlet pressures to a lower outlet pressureand hold the reduced pressure withinclose limits. Type G-60 regulators areself-contained and self-actuated and aredesigned for high capacity systems whereclose control is required.

Operation The Type G-60 design is totally differentfrom the majority of self-acting pressurereducing regulators. Note the crosssection at right. Five pressure chambersplay a part in producing the high capacityand exceptional performance of the Type G-60.
Flow from inlet chamber (A) goes throughthe seat orifice to intermediate chamber(B), then into the outlet line (F) throughnozzle chamber (C). Control chamber (D)communicates with outlet line (F) throughchamber (E). In operation, assuming thevalve closed, a drop in pressure in line (F)caused by demand downstream,simultaneously drops the pressure inchambers (E) and (D). As this producessome valve opening, pressure in chamber(B) will considerably elevate the velocity of flow through nozzle (C). This increasedvelocity through the nozzle (jet action)drops the pressure in control chamber(D). The valve is opened wide to satisfy the demand and the delivery pressure is maintained within narrow limits.
ConstructionBody: Iron, bronze, carbon steel orstainless steel (Type 316 or 316L).
Trim: Bronze or stainless steel (Trimconsists of pusher post button, pusherpost orifice, nozzle, bottom cap, andpiston).
Guide Bushing: Stainless steel.
Piston and Seat Ring: Stainless steel –for steam and other fluids requiringmetal-to-metal seats. Bronze piston withBUNA-N seat disc and stainless steelseat ring – for air, cold water, and otherfluids where tight shut-off is desired,stainless steel pistons are optional.
Diaphragm: Phosphor bronze, stainlesssteel, BUNA-N, Viton®
Diaphragm Gasket (used only with metaldiaphragms): Aramid Fiber (Teflon® onspecial order)
Bottom Cap Gasket: Aramid Fiber(Teflon® on special order)
Adjusting Screw Cap (when furnished):Brass (Stainless Steel on special order).

Optional Cryogenic ServiceApproved construction is offered in theType G-60 for handling cold fluids. Forexample, pressure building regulators on liquid to gas oxygen and nitrogenconverters. Special stainless steelpressure springs for higher ranges thanthose shown in the Spring Range Tableare available for this service. Write forData sheet CAVMC-0514 for moreinformation.

Optional Differential PressureControlThe Type G-60 can serve as a constant-differential valve through a slight modification of the standard valve design. This is accomplished by incorporating a 1/4" side tap in thespring housing. In the typical steam/oilatomizing installation sketch below,loading pressure is introduced above the G-60 diaphragm and steam isdelivered through the valve at a regulatedpressure higher than the loadingpressure, with the pressure differencebeing determined by the diaphragmspring setting. The outlet steam pressureis automatically maintained to provide a constant, fixed pressure differentialbetween the steam pressure and oilpressure. Variations in the loadingpressure are reflected in a pound-for-pound change in the discharge pressure.
Valves equipped with the optionaldifferential pressure control are fittedwith a pressure-tight closing cap over thepressure adjusting screw. In addition, agasket is installed above the diaphragmand the closing cap has a gasket seal.

The amount of air or fluid any regulatorwill pass is governed by two factors; (1)pressure differential, or the differencebetween the inlet and outlet pressure,and (2) a characteristic known as fall-offor droop, by which the outlet pressuredrops slightly as flow starts through the
valve and drops off even more asincreased demand requires increasedflow. The rates of flow stated on thefollowing charts are based on maximumfall-off on droop of 20% from setpressure.
