Observations and sampling: See Check-In sheet for more info on packaging.Specimen 047 (car seat) was removed from the cardboard box and no obvious putrefactive odors werenoted. Some visible stains were observed under ambient light (fabric on right-inside [leg area], fabric onright harness strap, and fabric on left-outside [leg area] of car seat). Used an alternate light source (ALS)with orange goggles at a setting of 'CSS' to view for the presence of more stains. Took cuttings from thestained areas, placed them into test tubes, and capped.Specimen 048 (steering wheel cover) seemed to be made of a rubber-like substance with fabric-like materialon opposite ends. No obvious putrefactive odors were noted. No obvious stains were observed underambient light. Used an alternate light source (ALS) with orange goggles at a setting of 'CSS' to view for thepresence of stains on specimen 048, but none were found. Took representative cuttings from both therubber-like portion and the fabric-like portion of Q48, placed them into test tubes, and capped.

HS-GC-MS(PllEl): Individually placed the cuttings (that had been taken previously- see Notes-Ol.doc)for specimens 047 and 048 into two (2) 20mL headspace vials. Added 1mL of water (Millipore, 18MO 'cm)into an empty test tube (Neg. Ctrl.) and vortex-mixed. Transferred this [Neg. Ctrl.] water into a headspacevial and capped. Added 1mL of water (Millipore, 18MO'cm) into the 047 and 048 headspace vials andcapped. Prepared a 0.01% (v/v) CHCh Positive Control by adding lOUL ofCHCh (Fisher; lot: 011403) to a100mL volumetric flask and diluted to volume with water (Millipore, 18MOcm). Added 1mL of the 0.01%(v/v) CHCh Pos. Ctrl. solution into a headspace vial and capped. Placed 1mL of the Pos. Ctrl. Testmixsolution (0.01 %(v/v) of MeOH, EtOH, Acetone, Isopropanol ; lot: MPR09292008 ) into a headspace vial andcapped. Individually vortex-mixed the headspace vials for ~ 1 minute and analyzed them using the HS-GC/MS instrument while in PI/EI mode. See data printouts for parameters.
