EORLA BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SOLUTION

The Eastern Ontario Regional Lab Association (EORLA) has implemented an integrated regional laboratory services model which delivers hospital-based laboratory services to meet the needs of Eastern Ontario. As part of this initiative, EORLA has implemented a Business Intelligence/ Data Warehouse solution to meet their organizational reporting requirements for 16 laboratory sites that are operating at 19 geographical locations. The EORLA BI solution uses both structured and unstructured data models to allow for maximum flexibility and in depth insight.

The repository of data (data warehouse) contains data from many distinct areas that are involved with the delivery of laboratory services. The following are some of the main data sources:

Business Benefits of a Lab BI Systems

EORLA BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SOLUTION

Technology PlatformThe technology platform leveraged and extended EORLA’s existing MS SQL Server technology. Taking advantage of newer technologies, including “Hadoop Active Storage”, HL7 messages can be stored in perpetuity.

This enabled the creation of the Clinical Access Layer and Dashboard capabilities, providing EORLA with both standardized and ad-hoc access to relevant data. Furthermore, to satisfy EORLA’s need for a more robust Business

Intelligence experience, the “Jaspersoft” BI tool was integrated into the existing Microsoft stack. This will be made available to the user community with “Liferay” as the Portal engine to expose these data sources in a secure manner over the web. The above diagram is a high level overview of the architecture.
