Great Jobs That Don't Require a 4-Year College Degree

What if I told you that there are great, well-paid jobs out there that don't really

require a three or four year college degree? Well, it is true! Nowadays, in our

technologically developed world people have plenty of other options aside from

spending three years in lecture theaters. Not only they can choose a short e-

learning course, but many actually prefer to work with their hands and utilize

their talents instead of working in crowded offices in front of the computer.

The Case For Working With Your Hands

According to Tsuyoshi Ito “No matter how advanced technology becomes

there is always going to be someone who wants to learn how to knit”, or

draw or engage in carpentry, or who wants to fix things himself. People were

created to work with their hands and it is wrong to assume that jobs of this kind

are low-skilled. On the contrary, since one can see the instant results from their

work, such jobs can be considered very fulfilling. According to Pascal-Emanuel

Gobry, a contributor to Forbes, the jobs of the future are only “low-skilled” if

you define “low skilled” as not requiring a college degree.

Students are often frustrated upon graduation because they leave the university

with a degree in their hands and no practical experience whatsoever. On the

other hand employers want to hire people with both experience and knowledge.

At the end of the day, if you are talented and handy it seems reasonable to

acquire actual skills, instead of learning theory that won't help you. Not only

being a good carpenter means that you have the practical skills to work and

create quality end products, but there is actually a growth of 56% in this sector

according to Forbes (2013) and the median annual wage is around $26,000,

while plumbers, pipefitters, pipelayers, steamfitters and experienced,

professional cleaners earn around $28,000 and electricians earn $30,000 on

average. Not bad, huh?

The Case For Working in The Office

While there is always someone who wants

to learn how to knit, there is always this

one person who wants to work in a fancy

office. That's also achievable, without a

college degree! There are instances where

you can get your dream job without spending four years in college. You just

need to be self-motivated and self-taught, talented individual. Did you know

that SEO executives and SEO managers can make an average salary of around

$40,000 annually and there is no such thing as a degree in Search Engine

Optimization. It is something you have to learn by either taking a short course,

or finding yourself a job as an intern.

Did you know that Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg were all

college drop-outs?
