“Apprenticeship”—combines on the job training and classroom instruction

Construction & House Design Careers

Entry-Level Construction Worker

•Requires little training; usually hard “on-the-job” grunt work

•Not as high of pay as union or trained construction-trade professionals


Bricklayer

•Builds/repairs walls, fireplaces, and chimneys

•Usually a 3-year Apprentice Program


Dry Wall Installer & Finisher

•Fastens drywall panels to the inside framework of residential houses and other buildings. Prepares the panels for painting or other finishing by taping and sanding the surfaces


Landscape Architect

•Designers of outdoor spaces, of any land open to the sky, including land lying around and between buildings.

•Residential or Commercial


Construction Technologist

•Supervises construction workers, performs technical work

•Specialize in: estimating, quality control, specifications, or purchasing

Home Furnishings & Interior Design Careers

Home Lighting Specialist

•Career options include: fixture designers and manufacturers, landscape lighting specialist, and fiber optic lighting specialist


Home Furnishings Salesperson / Designer

•Designs/Sells functional & appealing furniture for manufacturers, design firms, and furniture shops.


Advertising Artist

•Produces the advertising artwork; works in ad agencies, stores, or graphic design firms


Textile Worker / Designer

•Textile designers work in knit, weave and print to create two-dimensional designs that can be produced in a design repeat for the production of commercial or artistic fabrics or textile products.


Buyer

•Determines which merchandise a store will carry; chooses the suppliers; negotiates prices; awards contracts.

Home Care, Maintenance, & Remodeling Careers

Entry-Level Maintenance Worker

•Cleans/repairs homes & offices; pool maintenance workers clean & repair pools


Professional Organizer

Independent consultants who provide information, products and assistance to help clients become more organized at home or in the office. A professional organizer may organize offices to enhance productivity or design filing systems.


Home Remodeling Specialist

* Plans & estimates the cost of remodeling projects; carries out the job.


Industrial Designer

• Originates and develops ideas to design the form of manufactured products• Specializes in specific product or type of product including, but not limited to hardware, motor vehicle exteriors and interiors, scientific instruments, industrial equipment, luggage, jewelry, house-wares, toys, or novelties


Interior Make-Over Artist

• Plans & furnishes interiors; prepares & presents ideas; develops clients’ ideas into design concepts
