Develop a single Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS)

Repackage the current NCS into a simple content-based curriculum by:

Filling gaps within the Phase Presenting it in a teacher-friendly format Ensuring seamless transition between

Phases Give guidelines per grade on what

teachers must teach and assess

Strong focus on concept development – content-based

Suggested teaching programme/ work schedule

Financial Maths – Removed Higher purchase and Exchange rates from

grade 7 to show progression

No specific teaching time has been allocated for the history of numbers but

the history of numbers can be brought in when appropriate.

HCF introduced in Grade 9 in terms of factorization and for simplification of

fractions.

LCM of numbers included in terms of equivalent fractions in Grade 7 and in terms

of addition and subtraction of fractions in Grade 8.

Input output: Generalization of rules removed for Grade 7

Algebraic Expressions : Introduced factorization of a trinomial in Grade 9

Added more in Transformation (translations)

Perspective drawing removed

Conversions of units of measurement introduced in Grade 7 to close the

gap for continuity from Intermediate phase to Senior phase

Data handling streamlined to single data in Grade 7

Drawing of histograms with given intervals only instead of own intervals.

Integral part of teaching and learning

Divided into two components: Continuous assessment (CASS) 40% FINAL EXAMINATION 60%

Continuous Assessment: More test – driven (2 tests and one of

the forms of assessment per term)

Weighting of the forms of assessments introduced (10% for tests

and 5% for the other forms)
