THE DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF BRONZE
Bronze is one of the distinctive ingredients that render Capoferri windows unique and exclusive.
Being considered one of the most precious metals during history, it has been used since ancient times as a
means of payment (in the form of coins), as well as a reward (in the form of medals) in addition to its use in
the arts.
Figure 1 - True bronze door (for reference only)
Bronze is an alloy of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn). Compared to surrogate materials such as “architectural
bronze”, which are technically brass, a zinc-based alloys (CuZn) with a cold, yellow hue, true solid bronze has
a warm pinkish base color which over time turns into a patina full of depth. Moreover, true bronze used in
Capoferri windows (CuSn6) has a very high percentage of copper that increases the anticorrosion property
as well as the inherent value of our products.
Also, compared to brass, true bronze has a mechanical resistance which is more than 50% higher and at the
same time has a thermal conductivity which is almost half that of brass. All these factors contribute to an
overall better performance and durability of bronze Capoferri window compared to brass (architectural
bronze).
The bronze we use allows us to produce windows of the highest quality, thanks to the intrinsic characteristics
of the bronze as well as our decennial know-how. Seamless welding by our highly skilled craftsmen also
contributes to the unique elegance of Capoferri windows.

Our artisans then apply the final aged oxidation strictly by hand, rendering each window a unique piece with
its own distinctive character in the true spirit of the heritage of craftsmanship that resides deep inside the
Capoferri DNA.
The aged oxidation is a natural process and the finish will be going to change constantly during the time. In
order to maintain the surface finish, it is usually enough to clean periodically the outer surface of the window
frames with water and neutral detergents and then protect the finish with protective wax. The frequency
with which such maintenance is to be carried out highly depends on the specific local ambient. Premature
aging of bronze finish is possible especially in tropical marine ambient and the color may vary from black over
blue/green to bright red.
In proximity to coastal areas and marine environment, metal frame is subject to aggression by airborne sand
and salt which can stand on the surface. The abrasion by salt and sand can damage the surface finish of
metals. In case of these damages or accidental scratches, it is always possible to restore easily the oxidation
of true bronze.
All these distinctive features bring the market to recognize a raw material value for true bronze about 40%
higher than surrogate material ones, reflecting its undisputed uniqueness. For reference, the price at
ASSOMET market (national association for not-ferrous metal industry) of the compared materials are the
following:
Moreover, the quantity of true bronze in our windows and façade, where the noble material has structural
as well as decorative function, is up to 10 times higher than the quantity of surrogate material in standard
or commercial windows where it is used mainly as a cladding for decorative function only.

THE DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF STAINLESS STEEL
Stainless Steel is one of the most valuable material Capoferri uses to design and manufacture its unique
windows and façade. Its name refers to a variety of corrosion resistant steels that contain a minimum of 11%
Chromium.
The chromium in the alloy forms a self-healing protective clear oxide layer that forms spontaneously in air.
The self-healing nature of the oxide layer means the corrosion resistance remains intact regardless of
fabrication methods. Even if the material surface is cut or damaged, it will self-heal and corrosion
resistance will be maintained.

In addition to corrosion resistance, which is its core property, the advantageous physical properties of
stainless steel include a high and low temperature resistance, an ease of fabrication, a high strength, a long
life cycle, a high recyclability, a low magnetic permeability together with a peculiar aesthetic appeal.
The easy of fabrication - including cutting, welding, forming and machining process - is a critical and essential
feature to design and manufacture completely bespoke and custom-designed profile as in Capoferri
philosophy and mission.
At the same time, the high strength allows to realize extremely slim profiles with optimized weights without
sacrificing the highest mechanical performance.
Moreover, the durability and resistance to corrosion of Stainless Steel leads to outlast many competing
products, and together with the low maintenance characteristics it brings to an optimum cost choice in a life
cycle cost comparison.
Because of its intrinsic ability to offer both high performance characteristics and outstanding aesthetic
appeal, Stainless Steel is one of the finest materials we use to make our window systems unique and
exclusive.
Thanks to its remarkable versatility, Stainless Steel can either be polished after fabrication to give the desired
finish or be painted with adequate painting process to guarantee the maximum durability of the finish even
in the most critical environments.
Capoferri suggests the use of liquid painting for their window frames.
The list of advantages of liquid coatings versus powder coatings is very long and important:
- No dimensional limits on the parts to be painted
- Relying on consolidated and internationally recognized cycles
- Allowing to maintenance and touch-up on site with the exact same product applied in the shop
- Easily checking control of the cycle and thickness applied
The cycle for the liquid painting, accordingly with NORSOK 6A-2, is the following:
- degreasing process of the surfaces and sandblasting with non-metallic inert
- application of one coat of Penguard primer thickness 50 micron
- application of first coat of Penguard Universal thickness 100 micron
- application of finish coat of Hardtop AX thickness 50 micron
