Pictured above, Bruce Querel, of QuerelTrailers with Dave at the CTM Show.

His experience in this industry andtesting Xp3 told him this is a product tostand behind and offer to his customers.

This is a CTM favorite as Brucehas put an article in CTM in the past andmore in the future I hope as he is in myopinion the trailer expert.

Our summerholiday seasonhas arrived; aswe begin mak-ing our plansfor travel withour families, many of usbring along our

pets because they are an important part of ourfamily and we choose not to leave them behind.

Often we wonder what if any are therequirements when we cross the borders in orout of Canada and the U.S.A. or even Interna-tionally.

When crossing any border pointtravelling by land whether you are in a mo-torhome or car the same rules apply for bothCanada and U.S.A. All pets are subject toheath, quarantine, agriculture and wildlife re-quirements according to the guidelines setout by Animal Plant Health Inspection Serv-ice,

Center for Animal Welfare and theCDC Center for Disease Control.

Dogs: must be vaccinated againstrabies at least 30 days prior to entry, exceptfor puppies younger than 3 months.

A dog with an unexpired healthcertificate meets these requirements. Theserequirements apply to service dogs as well.

Unfortunately if you do not complyyour dog must be placed into confinement for30 days (takes that long for the vaccination totake effect) and you have to sign a confinementagreement.

For air travel you must have a certainsized dog carrier according to the guidelines ofthe specific airline, they are all different soplease contact your air carrier for specific sizedetails. Only small dogs are allowed in the cabinon plane confined to a soft-sided airline ap-proved carrier. Medium to large dogs must go inthe cargo section with baggage in an airline ap-proved hard shell carrier.

Cats: subject to inspection at portsof entry, if they appear to be ill they may bedenied entry and subject to further examina-tion by a licensed Vet at owner’s expensemay be required at port of entry.

Cats are not required to have proof ofrabies vaccination

. For air travel cats also have to beconfined to a small soft-sided airline approvedcarrier in cabin.

Cats and Dogs that are being im-ported into Hawaii will be quarantined for 130days.

Birds: you must fill out a USDA ImportPermit, provide current health certificate by li-censed Vet, must quarantine the bird for 30 daysat owner’s expense in a USDA animal importcenter.

Page 13: CANADIAN TRUCKING MAGAZINE JULY 2014

Horses: You will need a completedand signed by Equine Vet a Veterinary HealthCertificate valid for 30 days, form HA1964 anda Coggins Test valid for 6 months. Be preparedto show documentation that your horse will onlybe in U.S.A. or Canada for a short period oftime. When transporting any pet do not use beddingsuch as hay, straw, grass or other natural bed-ding as they are not allowed due to harboringvarious plant pests.

Exotic animals are a whole otherball game so you will need to contact theCDC for those regulations.

When travelling by Air with your petsyou must fill out a Canadian International HealthCertificate, issued by CFIA and you can print acopy of this form on inspection.gc.ca website.Requirements listed above are the same.

Just in case you were wonderingabout food restrictions I thought that I wouldthrow that topic in as well.

You must declare all food prod-ucts; failure to do so can result in up to$10,000 in fines and penalties. Restricteditems include meats, fruits, vegetables, plants, soil, and products made from animalor plant materials.

One more topic that I get asked fre-quently, travelling with children:

If your children have passportsplease bring them with you (to obtain a pass-port please go to passport.gc.ca, all pass-ports issued after July 1, 2013 are nowePassports which are digital chip equipped),

if not a valid birth certificate is re-quired. Parents who share custody of their chil-dren carry copies of legal custody documents. Ifthe other parent is not travelling with you, or ifyou are travelling with minors for whom you arenot the parent or legal guardian, we recommendyou carry a letter of consent authorizing you totake the child on the trip.

For information regarding anythingmentioned in this article or information on thefight against smuggling, terrorism, C-TPAT,FAST, PIP please contact Dawn Truell Cross Border Services905-973-9136dawntruell@gmail.comwww.crossborderservices.orgwww.c-tpat-certified.com.

Note from Dave!If you see suspicious activity, persons askingyou for a ride across the border in your vehi-cle, a loose lipped driver talking about smug-gling loads of weapons or drugs, do us all abig favour and contact authorities. Try to getas much information as possible without be-coming involved and shut these bad guysdown. They are bad for our business.

T r u c k e r sAgainst Traf-ficking (TAT)and Women inTrucking (WIT)are looking for25 women driv-ers to partici-

pate in a three-month pilot program handingout lip balm with a special message on themto girls and women who might be humantrafficking victims.

“We are excited to see our partner-ship with WIT move to the next level, andtruly believe this campaign has great poten-tial to reach victims with the help they sodesperately need," says Kendis Paris, TATexecutive director.

Women, by virtue of their gender, often have greater opportunity to interact withand show compassion to minors and adultwomen (away from their pimps and without sus-picion), who may be the victims of forced pros-titution.

This interaction may occur inpublic restrooms at truck stops or travelplazas, in a hotel/motel lobby, at a laun-dromat or even in a restaurant.

That interaction, either via the mes-sage on the lip balm (if the girl is able to acton it) or the phone call a driver makes -- ifhuman trafficking is suspected -- could di-rectly lead to victim rescue.

A similar program in Kentucky re-sulted in a spike of victim calls to the NationalHuman Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) at1-888-3737-888 requesting help.

To harness this potential for female in-teraction, TAT and WIT are launching this three-month pilot to run from July 7-Sept. 30, 2014.

If successful, the program has the po-tential to expand across the United States withan unlimited number of drivers participating.

Participating drivers in the pilotwill be responsible to hand out speciallyprinted lip balms to those they thinkmight be human trafficking victims andto engage them in conversation, if that ispossible.

At the end of each interaction, partic-ipating drivers will need to write down specificdata regarding the exchange, as well as reportpotential human trafficking situations to theNHTRC.

An online training webinar for the 25women will take place on June 24, 2014 from5:30-6:30 CST.

It will cover how to approach and in-teract with potential victims as well as under-stand the field data that needs to be documentedafter each exchange.

Xp3 is a non-petroleum based, biodegradable blend of synthetic resins and or-ganic compounds engineered to maximize thefull potential of diesel by providing a more com-plete combustion of the fuel.
