Scouts working on Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, or First Class Rank are encouraged to participate in this program.

Camp La-No-Che is excited to welcome Scouts who are at Summer Camp for the first time, and offer a place to jump start your basic Scouting skills required for Scout, Tenderfoot, Second, and First Class ranks. Using the Patrol Method, Scouts are introduced to the fundamentals of being a Boy Scout, and will leave Camp with more knowledge of that Rank. How much each Scout completes is up to him, and it is possible that different Scouts may complete more requirements than others...

Jim SawgrassJim Sawgrass is a native Floridian and a member of the Muskogee Creek Indian Tribe. He served on the Florida Indian Council from 1991 to 1995. Sawgrass has been sharing his knowledge of the Southeastern Native American tribes for over 25 years.

Come experience the only Native American Village in the Southeast at Camp La-No-Che. Immerse yourself in the Native American culture by walking through a recreated Native American Village complete with Native Trading Post, Dance Arbor, Tepees, weapon stations, Native Cooking Area, Native American Museum, Chickee Teaching Shelters, and much more. The Native American village staff will take you on a journey back in time throughout your stay at Camp La-No-Che.

The Native American Village has many programs going on throughout the week. Many take place during troop time activities and give you a taste of the merit badges and advanced programs. These activities include having a troop bean shooter war, viewing the la-cross demonstration, taking part in model building, walking through the museum, taking a pottery class, hearing Native American stories, shooting and throwing Native weapons or coming to the Native American Pow-Wow on Thursday during family night.

adventure campprograms

All Adventure Camp programs are strenuous and physically demanding. Participants must be in good physical shape and bring the following items: water bottle or Hydration

pack, sun block, bug spray and all required documents and clothing for each program as stated below.

Access to these documents can be found in this guide in the ‘Required Documents’ section

ATV AdventureExperience the ASI ATV Safety Training Course this summer.Participants must be at least 14 years old or older to participate.

Participants must meet age, height and weight requirements for appropriate sized ATV. Age 14 to 15 years old will be riding 90cc ATV’s with the max weight limit of 187 lbs and 5’7”, 16 years and up will be riding 250cc ATV’s with the maximum weight of 231lbs. to 386 lbs. depending on manufacture.

REQUIRED: *ALL participants must have long sleeve shirts, long pants and over the ankle boots. Participants must have valid proof of age either a copy of birth certificate or state issued ID card. ATV hold harmless form and rider rules form (found in ‘required forms’ section of this guide) must be completed by parents prior to attending camp. No exceptions

Climbing Merit BadgeSpend the week at our Climbing Tower in Dr. Phillips Park learning and improving your climbing skills. As part of the class, participants will be rappelling on Thursday at the Adventure Tower.Participants must be in good physical condition due to this activity being strenuous.

REQUIRED CLOTHING: Pants or shorts made of cotton type material, hard sole shoesPERSONAL GEAR REQUIRED: Merit Badge book and worksheet, water bottle or hydration pack, bug spray and sun block.

Project C.O.P.E.Project C.O.P.E. is a series of inter-related events that challenge you on an individual and group level. Events are divided into four categories: initiative games, trust events, low elements and high ropes course. Our course is great for scouts looking to physically challenge themselves, develop team building skills, strengthen leadership qualities, and thinking outside the box.

Horsemanship Merit BadgeScout will enjoy working with horses as they learn proper care, grooming, parts of the saddle and bridle, dietary requirements and our favorite the TRAIL Rides through the back country of Camp LA-NO-CHE.*Additional fee of $80.00 per rider

*Participants must have a completed “Horses with a Mission” hold harmless form completed by parents

REQUIRED CLOTHING: Long pants (blue jeans), hard sole shoes, socksPersonal Gear required: Horsemanship Merit Badge book and worksheet, water bottle or Hydration pack, sun block, sun glasses and bug spray.

LNYC SailingProgram

Become an inaugural member of the Lake Norris Yacht Club by participating in our brand new 3-tier sailing program!LNYC has opportunities for scouts of all skill levels interested in sailing. Spend a week learning about sailing and spending time out on Lake Norris. The program ends the week with the LNYC Regatta, where all tiers of the program will fight to claim the coveted La-No-Che Cup!

LNYC Mates - Small Boat Sailing Merit BadgeScouts of all ages can participate in learning the ancient skill of sailing! Scouts will learn the Small Boat Sailing Merit Badge by sailing Sunfish sailboats, which will teach scouts about the fundamentals of sailing, wind and weather conditions, and basic navigation.

LNYC BoatswainsThis intermediate sailing course is intended for scouts who have completed the Small Boat Sailing Merit Badge and have basic sailing knowledge. As a part of this weeklong course, participants will strengthen their sailing skills learned in the Mates program, while learning basic boat and sail repair techniques, the sport of sailing, marine navigation, and culminating their skills with an overnight cruise to a base across Lake Norris for an overnight trek! Participants will refresh their sailing skills Monday by sailing Sunfish sailboats, then honing their skills throughout the week on the JY-15 sailboats.

LNYC CaptainsThis advanced sailing program reinforces the skills learned in the Mates and Boatswains Sailing Programs. Scouts participating in this one-of-a-kind course will learn advanced marine navigation, advanced boat repair, and crewing larger vessels. This course is an excellent team building experience for scouts to learn about sailing larger boats and working together. The skills learned during the week will culminate in an overnight trip to a base across Lake Norris for a special camping trek! Participants will refresh skills from the Boatswains program Monday by crew sailing JY-15 sailboats, then the rest of the week their skills will be honed by sailing Hobie Catamarans and the legendary Lightning 18 sailboat!

Poseidon’sOddessy

Experience a week in the life of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea as you participate in aquatic adventures around Florida. During the week participants will captain their own sailboat, kayak on crystal clear water, fish the Atlantic Ocean, experience wakeboarding and enjoy various swimming locations and learning experiences.

Any unit sending three or more Scouts on Poseidon’s Odyssey will be required to provide an adult leader for the week’s activities.

S.C.U.B.A. CERTIFICATION (age 14+)Scuba programs at La-No-Che are brought to you through a

partnership with Underwater Adventures The Scuba program is a full certification program providing the Scout and adult leader an opportunity to experience a different sort of high adventure. Providing that the participant completes all the course requirements, they will have a P.A.D.I. Open Water Certification, and memories that will last them a lifetime. More advanced courses are available, please see the instructor.The course cost is an additional $150. The participants are required to have their own set of mask, snorkel, fins, and booties of Scuba quality. (Sets purchased at Wal-Mart are not suitable for Scuba diving.) The Scuba staff can assist in the selection of this equipment. The scuba participant will be required to have the State Park access fees of $12.50 for each day of diving at weeks end. There will be two days in which the scuba participants will be diving at local State Parks. At times the scuba participants may want to eat off camp so please plan accordingly for these two days.As per all High Adventure Programs, participants are to be 14 years of age. Scuba is open to adult leaders as well as scouts.All participants are to complete a Scuba Medical Questionnaire and Statement of Understanding of Liability. This Medical is separate from the BSA medical required for camp and is to be signed by the parent or legal guardian for participants under 18 years of age.

Aquatics SupervisionRequired Age: 15+This course has 2 main components:BSA Swimming & Water RescueThis provides participants with information and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to swimming emergencies during unit swimming activities. It expands the awareness instruction provided by Safe Swim Defense training. Persons completing the training will be better able to assess their preparation to supervise unit swimming events. The BSA recommends that at least one person with this training is present to assist with supervision whenever a unit swims at a location that does not provide lifeguards.BSA Paddle Craft SafetyThis expands Safety Afloat training to include the skills, as well as the knowledge, needed for a unit leader to confidently supervise canoeing or kayaking activities. Persons completing this training will be better prepared to supervise paddle craft activities.

BSA and Red Cross LifeguardRequired Age: 15

This course is physically demanding and is only recommended for older scouts and adults who are strong swimmers. This is a rigorous all day program that includes American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer training. Participants will also be required to serve as a lifeguard for two evening swim session per BSA Lifeguard requirements. Lifeguard training is valid for two years, provided First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer training are kept current during that period.

woodsmanprogram

Woodsman I (age 13+)Advanced outdoor survival skills for Scouts who have already earned the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. Learn Native American survival skills and practices, primitive weapons history, fire making, history of Seminoles, hide tanning, and flint napping. If you love the Native American Village you will love this class, and appreciate the Native way of life much more. In this class you will learn to make your very own survival sticks, that you can take with you on future campouts. This is one of camp’s most popular classes and fills up quickly.

Primitive Cooking (age 13+)Learn Native American cooking techniques as you take a tour of historic cuisine and cooking methods. Each day is a new menu and new methods. Adults are also welcome to attend this class. $25.00 fee for food costs for the week.

Want to come to La-No-Che, but you can’t come with your troop?

You’re in luck! You can come on your own as a provisional camper as part of a program we call

PROVO

You can spend a week making new friends with the other scouts from across the state and even the country while

participating in all that Camp La-No-Che has to offer.

If you are interested in attending provo, don’t wait too long beofre registering to make sure you get the week you want!

*If a single unit sends three or more youth to attend provo in the same week, the unit must send one adult leader with them.

Was one week not enough? There are plenty of great reasons to come back for a second week of

camp and different ways to do it!

A second week in Provo (or thrid, or fourth...)Camp La-No-Che has more to offer than what can be accomplished during just one week. If you want to attend camp for an additional week, there is a $25 discount to attend Provo. Adult leadership is provided for Scouts all week. Provisional campers have the same opportunity to enjoy the program as other Scouts, and even have the opportunity for some special activities.

Bring the Whole Troop BackBring your troop back to Camp La-No-Che for a 2nd week of Summer Camp and get a discount of $25.00 per scout for a second week full of new experiences and memories!

CAMP STAFF& NYLT

We have openings for paid summer camp positions. If you are at least 15 years old, follow the Scout Oath and Law in your daily life, and want to help Scouts have a great experience at summer camp please apply. We are always looking for quality future leaders. We also have a Counselor-in-Training program for Scouts who are 14 years old. As a C.I.T. you get a taste of what it is like to be a staff member and the opportunity to earn merit badges. Applications are accepted online at www.camplanoche.com.
