HOW REAL ARE HISTORICAL EVENTS?
Nowadays, there are many ways people can learn about history, such as
museums, internet, libraries, schools, documentaries, movies. However, it
is very difficult to find material that can be trusted regarding historical
events. Some historical events may have been influenced by misleading
evidence or popular culture. Thus, it is important to compare and contrast
the different sources.
On the one hand, there is no doubt that it is needed to search for records
that support the evidence of historical events. Moreover, it is essential that
the sources of these documents are trustworthy.
One of the most reliable references is the “in situ findings”. It isan
exampleof this arethe Roman’s inscriptions doneon in rocks that
remain there forcenturies years and years and provide accurate
information / evidence.
On the other hand, a lot of information that we have from the past could
have started as be rumoursand, for tis reason it is very difficult to
distinguish between fact and fiction.
Our ancestors provide us first hand information about historical events
because theyin livelived haveimportant /relevant memories of episodes:
theFirst and Second World War or the Atomic Bomb.
In my opinion and taking into account the barriers encountered in
obtaining reliable information, the most influence on how historical events
are described nowadays isthe popular culture. It is hard to demonstrate if
thehistory thattoday is known today is real or is altered. It depends on
who hasve been told the event.
