Beginning medical spanishhealth care workers, police officers, firefighters and first respond-ers share the common need to communicate with spanish-speak-ing patients. Learn to get basic information, such as health history and insurance, and ask about symptoms and illnesses. Be able to give brief treatment and examination information to the patient in spanish, as well as make appointments and review discharge instructions with them. this class will enable students to com-municate in a simple and effective manner with hispanic patients and their families. no prior spanish experience is necessary.

World War ii’s Turning PointWWii defined the 20th century and our lives today. We will explore november 1942 — the month when events tipped the allies’ way. We will look at the background of the entire global war, people and personalities, socioeconomic and political factors, and at least six specific campaigns. Photo to FabricMaking a Portrait Quilttransform a cherished photo to a fabric represen-tation. Bring three or four digital photos to the first session. We will discuss portrait compositions, use photo-editing software to select a suitable compo-sition, and then crop, grayscale, posterize, and re-size. in follow-up sessions, we will create a pattern and cut fabric pieces. When layered and fused to-gether, an amazing, lifelike image will emerge from the fibers. a complete kit will be provided. the class will also include instruction on color, value, and temperature so participants can select appro-priate fabrics for future projects. Embellish with Beadsadd excitement to textiles with beading tech-niques that can be used on clothing and household linens. Learn techniques for attaching beads and sequins to create lines, borders, fringe, rosettes and freeform shapes. also learn to attach small mirrors and other non-pierced items. Beginning Drawing like the old Mastersenhance your observational skills and eye-hand co-ordination as you learn to draw. We will focus on some of the basic elements of visual art including line, shape, form, composition, and value. Beginning with basic pencil exercises, we will explore still life, free-form drawing, and objects from nature. the focus will be on learning to see well so that draw-ings become more accurate representations of life. there will be scheduled time for students to choose their own subject matter. u Shere Holleman, BFA, MEd, began drawing at age four. She has taught art for more than 15 years and made a living as an artist in Los Angeles. She believes that a classical training in drawing is an essential foundation for the visual arts.

Beginning Painting with acrylicsLearn the basics of color theory and color mixing as you explore the world of acrylic painting. tech-niques for light and shadow, dimension, and per-spective will be covered as you work with images that interest you. We will focus on what motivates us to create art and how to foster creative energies while facing the inner critic that inevitably comes up in art-making. then we will apply these skills to a long-term painting done on canvas. students will be encouraged to write about their painting pro-cess and share their insight with others. u Michelle Fox is an Art Therapist with more than 20 years of painting experience. Painting with acrylics level 2this more advanced class allows students to con-tinue to practice blending and layering techniques while exploring different types of brushstrokes and composition styles. Mosaics 101 Learn the craft of mosaics during a one-day work-shop at the instructor’s studio in the delightful prospect area of Longmont. create your own keep-sake picture frame or 8”x8” wall art. Using a variety of materials, you will learn simple techniques of cut-ting, gluing, and grouting fine china, art glass, half marbles and tile. in the morning, we’ll cut and glue. During the lunch break, students may visit pros-pect’s fabulous restaurants and shops, then return at 2:00 pm to finish the grouting and go home with your work of art! a $50 materials fee is payable to the instructor at class. u Susan Wechsler, MFA, teaches and works in her beautiful Longmont studio. She is an avid collector of antique china, stained glass, figurines, tiles, and other discarded treasures which she uses to create her unique, inspiring mosaics.

acT Prep | covering the english, math, science and reading sections, this course provides the student with practice tests, subject material instruction, time-management and more test-taking strategies. an official prep book published by the makers of the act is included in the tuition fee. Homework may be assigned.

saT Prep | covering verbal and math skills, this class will help students maximize their sat performance. the verbal review covers how to answer sentence completion and sentence error questions quickly and correctly. reading speed and techniques for locating pertinent information, writing the sat essay, and math concepts and skills will be reviewed. strategies will be developed through practicing on actual sat tests. an official prep book published by the makers of the sat is included in the tuition fee. Homework may be assigned.

Driver’s Ed — classroom Training* | in 30 hours of classroom training (required by the state of colorado), teens will be taught by experts — colorado police officers. students learn through lectures, as well as group discussions, games, and activities. the state-approved curriculum focuses on driving rules and regulations. students also learn about basic car maintenance, how to change a tire, and what to expect on a traffic stop. *Class does not include the six hours of behind-the-wheel driving. age reQuirements: students must be at least 14 1/2 years old on first day of class. permit test is administered on last day of class. students must be within 30 days of 15th birthday to take the test. otherwise, they may arrange with the instructor to take the test at a later date.

Furoshiki: The art of Wrappingcombine style with function and become eco-friendly, all with the art of Furoshiki Wrapping. Used for centuries in japan, Furoshiki is a near-square, reusable “wrapping and carrying cloth” that changes its shape depending on the object within it. not only does Furoshiki wrap items of different shapes, it can also be used as a grocery shopping bag or extra clothes for sudden weather changes. When not in use, it can be folded small enough to fit in a pocket or small purse. reduce waste and save precious resources with this amazing cloth!
