Bx12 Select Bus Service Fordham Road-Pelham Parkway

The first SBS corridor will be on Fordham Road and eventually extended to Pelham Parkway. Here you can see the route it will follow and the stops it will make. It follows route of the existing Bx12 Limited from the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan to Bay Plaza in the Bronx. It will not only provide service to this bustling corridor but also provide connections to seven different subway lines and MetroNorth.

This new service will provide an initial 10 % improvement in travel time for Fordham Road bus riders, over one hundred thousand people and we project that the BRT features are refined that savings will grow to 20%. Reliability will be increased and access will be improved to destinations such as Jacobi Medical Center, the Bronx Zoo, and of course, the New York Botanical Gardens. All these improvements, taken together, will allow for more people to use buses, instead of cars to travel along this critical east-west corridor. SBS service on Fordham Road will roll out shortly. But we also have detailed plans for BRT routes in Manhattan and Brooklyn that could be established in under a year and half. Unfortunately, with the Assembly’s rejection of congestion pricing, we lost over $350 million in federal funding, over $100 million of which would have been directed to BRT projects. Nevertheless, we are looking for alternative funding soures and I’d like to quickly share with you our plans for 1st and 2nd Avenues and Nostrand Avenue/

Fordham Road Delivery Window

To accommodate the existing businesses on Fordham Road, delivery windows will be created. Delivery hours on the south side of the street will take place on University Avenue to Grand Concourse, 10:00 a.m. to Noon and on Grand Concourse to Webster Road, Noon to 2:00 p.m. Delivery hours on the north side of the street will take place on Jerome Ave to Grand Concourse, Noon to 2:00 p.m. and w are considering extension of delivery area on north side of street. And delivery zones and additional parking areas will be established on certain side streets.

Proof-of-Payment Fare Collection

• Customers pay at fare payment machines and obtain a proof-of-payment receipt before boarding

• Customers board the bus at either door and hold receipt for inspection – receipt valid for 1 hour

• Two types of machines in use– Re-purposed MetroCard “express” machine for

customers with MetroCards– Re-purposed Parkeon multi-space parking meter for

customers with coins
