1. ROLE PURPOSE
The promotion of a reading culture which supports and enriches reading for pleasure and develops an appreciation of literature, ensures that the Libraries are an integral part of the teaching and learning community. The promotion of information literacy, in collaboration with classroom teachers, across the curriculum, so ensuring that the students are empowered to be lifelong, independent learners and confident users of information.
2. LINE OF AUTHORITY
This person reports to Library Coordinator - Burke Hall and the Director of Library Services and ultimately, the Director of Campus, the Principal and the Rector.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In cooperation and collaboration with the Director of Library Services, Burke Hall Library Services Coordinator and the Burke Hall Dean of Early Years, implement strategies which will encourage the development of lifelong reading habits and a love of literature in the students.
In cooperation and collaboration with the Director of Library Services, Burke Hall Library Services Coordinator and the Burke Hall Dean of Early Years, develop an Information Literacy skills program and instruction in accordance with the PYP guidelines.
4. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Information Technology & Information Literacy Support
Ensure that the Early Years Library has a current presence on the College Portal
Actively promote student information literacy across the curriculum, focussing on the Xavier Libraries Information Skills Continuum
Work with the other campus Teacher Librarians, Subject Coordinators and classroom teachers to integrate ICTs into the curriculum.
Promote and collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate the Xavier Libraries Information Skills Continuum from Kinder 3 to Year 4.
In consultation with teaching staff, as required, cooperatively plan units of work which ensure that students develop information literacy skills which are evaluated as part of curriculum units.
Assist in the development and publication of booklets to inform parents of the aims and requirements of the PYP.
Plan, teach and evaluate collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure the effective integration of ICTs into student learning.
Work cooperatively with classroom and specialist teachers to provide curriculum resources and support.

Literature Program & Curriculum Support
Actively promote literature to classes, small groups and individuals.
Regularly teach classes and work with students to promote reading a love of literature.
Develop activities for students which encourage and promote reading and literature, eg. book reviews published on the Library portal
Arrange for authors to visit and work with students.
Develop and implement activities for students and parents during Children’s Book Week
Contribute to Library publicity and resources promotion. Collection Development
Responsible for the selection and purchase of library resources and development of the Early Years Collection, both print and eBooks.
Other Duties
Perform routine library tasks, as needed, such as desk duty, student supervision, shelving, book covering, weeding and stocktaking.
Create displays to enhance the function of the library.
Report writing and attend Learning Progress Discussions, as requested.
Attend all Library meetings – Burke Hall and 3 Campus
Represent Burke Hall Library at faculty meetings, as required
Attend full staff meetings, as listed.
Other duties as directed by the Director of Library Services or Director of Campus
5. SELECTION CRITERIA
Must have a comprehensive understanding of literacy and literature for children.
Detailed knowledge of how to promote and foster a love of reading.
High level knowledge of children’s literature
Fully qualified with highly developed ICT skills
Experience in teaching PYP (IB) essential
6. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Part Time Ongoing (0.5 FTE) o Week 1 – Thursday & Friday o Week 2 – Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
Commencement: January 2016
All other terms and conditions as per the Xavier College Conditions of Employment Agreement 2012.
