The New Piper Aircraft. Inc. 1039 BULLETIN 2926 Piper Drive Vero Beach, Florida, U.S.A. 32960 PIPER CONSIDERS 1 SUBJECT: Date: F 14, 2000 Modification of Manifold Pressure Gauge (MAP) Wiring MODELS AFFECTED: SERIAL NUMBERS AFFECTED: PA-32R-301 Saratoga II HP 3246018 through 3246152 PA-32R-301T Saratoga II TC 3257001 through 3257115 PA-34-220T Seneca V 3449001 through 3449143 COMPLIANCE TIME: To coincide with the next regularly scheduled maintenance event inspection, but not to exceed the next one hundred (100) hours time in service. APPROVAL: The technical contents of this Service Bulletin have been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.). PURPOSE: Field reports indicate that a condition may develop in the Manifold Pressure Gauge where the readings may become erratic or stick at around 20 inches of mercury. This condition may occur sporadically and reports indicate that cycling the electrical system off and on may temporarily correct the condition. To remedy this condition, Piper has removed the MAP harness shield ground connection at the gauge. Left uncorrected, the ability to provide proper MAP settings may be lost which may result in damage to the engine or in unknown power output. This Service Bulletin requires the modification of the MAP wiring harness which, when accomplished, will preclude future occurrences as described above. INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Remove external power sources if installed, assure the battery master switch is off, and disengage the circuit breakers for the DDMP and the MAP systems. 2 Gain access to the Manifold Pressure (MAP) analog gauge connector(s) by removing the gauge and/or the DDMP digital display unit. Note: Seneca V has two MAP harnesses to modify. (See Fig. 1.) 3. Carefully pull the MAP harness out far enough to access the back of the connector. 4. Refer to Sketch A diagram and locate the wires in pins F, B and N. Follow the wire from pin B or N back along the harness until the shield ground connection is located. See Sketch B. Cut the shield ground at a convenient location. Tape the ends of the cut wires and secure the harness(s) using cable ties. 5. Re-connect the MAP gauge harness and install it back into the instrument panel. Reinstall the DDMP if removed. Engage the DDMP and MAP circuit breakers. (OVER) ATA: 7715

COMPLIANCE TIME: To coincide with the next regularly scheduled maintenance event inspection, but not to exceed the next one hundred (100) hours time in service.

INSTRUCTIONS:

(See Fig. 1.)

INSTRUCTIONS: (Cont’d)

6. Make preparations for a ground run. Restore electrical power and turn on the battery master. If the electronic engine instrument passes the start up self test, start the engine and perform an engine ground run. Check the MAP and DDMP functions for proper operation.

7. Make an appropriate logbook entry indicating compliance with this Service Bulletin.

MATERIAL REQUIRED: As required, insulated tape and aircraft quality cable ties. Obtain locally.
